When 'Generations' was still going on, I only watched the last 3 episodes of that season. I bought the Box Set, and it doesn't seem too bad. What didn't people like?

If it hadn't been for the writer's strike it would probably have turned out better. The problem is that they spent so many episodes at the beginning of the episode slowly setting up stories and introducing so many new characters, that by the time of the writer's strike, they couldn't go anywhere with any of them. The season was quickly wrapped up, and usually in ways that made it pointless to have sat through so many episodes.
Most notably; the episodes with the Mexican brother and sister, they became such pointless characters. Even the sister's presence in season 3 was quite pointless, but fortunately she's gone now. Not that it helps any, because it just makes season 2 the all the more pointless to have had her in the first place.
One of the few interesting things of season 2 has actually been left behind; the girl in New Orleans that could watch something on TV and replicate it. She was one of the very few characters introduced that was decent, though, sadly to see her we would often have to put up with that annoying kid that was always being a jerk to Micah.

No... if it hadn't been for the writer's strike, the show would have been cancelled... nothing more to say.

By many accounts, season 3 of heroes has gotten worse. However, season 8 of smallville is experiencing a creative rejuvination. I think it has to do with focusing on character and getting rid of lana and lex. I love michael rosenbaum, but the clark-lex dynamic got played out. The on-again, off-again nature of clark and lana's relationship got played out several seasons ago. I thought that season 8 was going to be the end, but the way it's going i can go at least 1 more season.
Season 2 of heroes was hurt from the writers strike no doubt. 2 and apparently 3 keep trying to give too many plot twists that it's confusing. The writers should only focus on a few characters per episode so it becomes easier to follow for the viewers.

That article says nothing about the possibility of Heroes being cancelled during its second season.
