Hot on the heels of cancelling Impulse, DC Comics has announced that Superboy will end with issue #100. Jimmy Palmiotti posted about the cancellation on the official Superboy Message Board:

"Hate to do this here, but a lot of people have been asking me about this, and I got the o.k from my friends at D.C comics to talk about it.

Superboy #100 will be the last issue in the series...for now.

As you know, the sales numbers have been very low for a while on this title, and I want to give a big thankyou to everyone at D.C. for keeping the title around as long as they could. Just the fact that it reached 100 says a lot, in my mind at least.

There are a few people I want to thank for the time we had on the book...all the wonderful talent on the title, John McCrea, James Hodgkins,Anthony Williams,Walden Wong, John Cassidy, J.G. Jones,Kilian Plunkett,Humberto Ramos, Steve Dillon, Bill S, and especially series editor Mike McAvennie and my partner in crime Dan DiDio.

Alot of people are going to read that Dan was the one responsible for cancelling the title, and to some extent , that is true, But you have to understand that it was the lack of interest and sales that are to blame for the books cancellation, not one single person. That is a real negative part of his job, but I understand that this is a business and past of business is to make sure titles can turn a profit, and not lose money. Superboy was the latter.

well, its not the end of the world and not the end of superboy, that's for sure. you can't keep a good character down and i am sure he is going to pop up somewhere soon, you can count on that.

They mean alot to me and dan, and that amount of positive energy , I hope , will flow right back into my keyboard and out on to other projects I am currently writing. I hope you guys will continue to support, or at least try something new from D.C. COMICS. I'm telling you, you won't find a nicer group of people working in the biz anywhere else.

so, once again, sorry I had to bring the bad news, lets keep in touch and lets support Superboy till the very end, cause its not over till the paper runs out.

all best, JIMMY PALMIOTTI"

While the sales for the title have been low, the cancellation came out of left feild for Superboy fans. Rumors have it that DC Comics is putting the heat on other low selling title, specifically Azrael: Agent of the Bat. Stay tuned for updates here at TZN!
