The film distributor Summit Entertainment plans (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2008-09-22/imagi-cg-astro-boy-film-to-open-on-october-23-2009) to open the film in over 3,000 North American theaters on October 23, 2009.
So we should look foward to it. Just one question.

Why the heck is he wearing a shirt? Don't want children to see his raw metallic chest?

Those are his civilian clothes...

He's worn variations of them in every incarnation of the series.

Oh yeah. Forgot about that between all the fighting and promotional imagery and stuff.

The CGI looks good though (I think?)

I predict a level of bashing not seen in years when the trailer hits. I'm more surprised the company itself is still around.

It would NOT be worse than the level of bashing the Live Action Dragonball Movie is getting.

This will be worse.

Mostly because of Tezuka's work being the subject of butcher.

I don't know about that. The basic premise of the movie doesn't seem too far off from the original source material. Astro getting built then abandoned, etc.

Supposedly the trailer is actually already showing in front of Madagascar 2. Not that anyone here is going to see that movie.

Also with Bolt later this month apparently, so there is that option too.

The people at IMAGI Studios have gone on record saying a bunch of times that this movie will be a faithful origin story with approval and such from Tezuka Productions, so whatever bashing there'll be will be simply be that, bashing.
