View Full Version : Woody Woodpecker Question
I was wondering, did Andy Panda or any other lesser known Lantz characters ever appear in the modern Woody Woodpecker show? Like in a cameo?
Jack

I don't know if Andy ever appeared on the modern Woody show. But I saw a Chilly Willy cartoon which co-starred the polar bear from "The Legend of Rock-a-Bye Point".

I think there was an episode that had a rabbit that looked very similar to Oswald, (the later design, the one used in "Egg Cracker Suite" and the comic books) in a large crowd, in one of the new Woody shorts.

There was also a female woodpecker that seemed to be an homage to Ben Hardaway's Woody in one short (longer beak and banded legs, though the shest was white rather than red). And ther was a character that may have been a ref to Walter Pigeon in another (a good joke missed, imo--his name wasn't Walter).

Lantz's character was named Homer Pigeon. Was that the pigeon's name? :)
At Universal Studios theme park in Florida, I saw pen in a package of Woody & Friends pens which featured a modern looking version of Lantz's short-lived Windy the Bear... which makes me think he must have appeared on the new Woody Show.
I also recall reading somewhere that there were suppossed to be Space Mouse cartoons on the new WW Show. But I don't think any got made (I could be wrong, though).

Here's an image of the title card from one of Lantz's Homer Pigeon cartoons:

Don't forget, there's at least 90 episodes of that new Woody show, and the Space Mouse cartoons haven't aired at all. Maybe other countries got to see them.

I know I heard of a character named Walter Pigeon, a ref to an actor by the name of Pidgeon...if not Lantz or Warners, maybe it was Jay Ward.... (cf. "Kirwood Derby")
