I for one, am excited to meet this new character known as "Orel's Grandfather." I wonder how Clay's gonna react to see that his father isn't dead.

I don't think the grandfather subplot ever made it to the series. Scott Adsit's interview suggests it's what they planned on doing, but never got to it because of the seven episode cut in the 20 episode order. Here's the exact quote. I bolded the key words. Notice the word "gonna":

SA: Well, our grand scheme was, over five seasons, to evolve these little puppets into the most realistic people on television. We were gonna bring in Orel's [paternal] grandfather, and he would become a resident in the house, and kind of a different voice, because he was someone who you'll see in the episode called "Passing." He's terminal. And it's Orel dealing with the idea of death and afterlife and a different voice—a voice of reason, because his father kind of gave up on God when his mother died.

And this explains why Clay is so jacked up. I actually get it now. Hopefully the series ends with Orel actually being remotely normal. I swear on everything this season has me emotionally involved with these crude claymation figures.

I never thought I'd see the day I felt sympathy to Clay.

So, Orel would've had aunts and uncles from his father's side if his grandmother didn't keep smoking during pregnacy.

Well, that was pretty twisted. Orel's grandmother smoking and drinking during pregnancy, Clay's fake death, Clay's strangely happy reactions to his father hitting him..God I wish they would have let them have their 5 seasons. As great as I think the show is now, I think it honestly could've been one of the best animated shows ever had WS not cancelled them.

Clay's face at the end of the episode was almost heart breaking, that story was sad as hell.

Man that was seriously messed up, though it does answer alot of questions about Clay, like were his belief in those extra commandments came from.

This was kind of a weird episode. I didn't understand why Clay was taking his mother's death so well. He didn't really seem broken up about it at all.

So, who voiced young Clay anyway? It kind of sounded like Spike Spencer, though I doubt it's him.

To me it sounded like Scott Adsit's Doughy voice but I'm probably wrong as well.

So that explains alot of Clay's angst and depression. It doesn't surprise me how spoiled and self-centered Clay was as a child, it certainly explains alot of his behavior as an adult. It also explains what he expected from a woman and why Bloberta and he are such a terrible match, (both are completely selfish people and just want the other to satisfy them without giving anything in return).

It is a shame this show will not have many episodes to explore the Clay, Clay's dad, orel relationship. I think one of the major themes Dino is exploring with this season is how the sins of the parent get passed onto the child, and how Orel is just as likely to end up like Clay absent some sort of life changing event (like a coming-of-age hunting trip.)

I guess people were right in saying Clay was pretty bad before he started drinking. I mean accidentley killing you mother is one thing but actually seeking out getting smacked as a sign of affection by insulting her to your dad? Defintley some pretty messed up stuff. Then again it seemed that Clay just needed to have some form of attention being paid to him. Usually those kind of overprotective moms that pamper they're son to death just do it for the sake of love or just because they don't know about moderation. There's an even darker reason here though reveaing how many times that Clay's mom failed to get pregenent before him. So yeah obviously when he squeezed out he'd be the miracle child. This is also another one of those that dosen't have too many laughs (besides finding out where Clay's fake testements come from and him wanting to start the shooting tradition despite his dad saying it would end all those years ago) but the story is defintley interesting enough to keep watching. I do hope though that now that we've had Clay and Bloberta's full on backstories explained we can actually move closer to the After "Nature" events unless we're getting something on more Of Orel's backstory next. Well I know the next ep has something to do with the dance but not having seen it yet I don't know what. Hope it does contain more entertainment then this one though even if the whole real drama of Clay's backstory was defintley interesting if not just outright depressing.
