Happy Birthday, Raw!
Forget the pointy hats. Leave the trick candles at home. But be sure to bring the noise. Next Monday night, Raw celebrates 800 episodes in impressive fashion with a three-hour special starting at 8/7 CT on USA Network. With all the chaos in the air, it promises to be one heck of a party.
Promising to kick the festivities into overdrive, World Heavyweight Champion Batista tangles with Chris Jericho in a Steel Cage Title Match. Last week, a bitter Jericho laid a heavy chunk of blame at the feet of Raw General Manager Mike Adamle for his losing the title to The Animal the night before at Cyber Sunday, unwilling to accept any responsibility for the defeat.
Will Batista be able to continue his momentum inside the sadistic structure? And just how far is Jericho willing to go to regain the gold?
In other Raw action, cocky up-and-comers The Miz & John Morrison convinced GM Adamle to arrange a tag team match between them and the legendary jesters of D-Generation X, Shawn Michaels & Triple H.
The Dirt Sheet duo has been antagonizing HBK and The Game for weeks now on their WWE.com video original program. Which of these two tandems will emerge victorious this Monday? And what type of birthday pranks might the WWE Universe expect from these two tag teams?
As for Adamle, his should be an interesting bash. After getting berated by Jericho last Monday night, the GM also took his licks from Randy Orton. The Legend Killer gave Stephanie and Shane McMahon an ultimatum: show up on this week’s special episode of Raw to fire Adamle or Orton himself is going to “walk.” Orton then questioned Adamle’s ability as a husband and a father. That went too far, and the GM slapped Orton across the face. A livid Orton stifled his rage and stomped out of the ring.
Will Stephanie and Shane McMahon heed Orton’s ultimatum, or has Adamle gained their confidence?
For the answers to these questions and more, be sure to join the three-hour Monday Night Raw party at 8/7 CT on USA Network to celebrate the show’s 800 episodes.

What worked:
DX beating Mizizzle & Morrison, of course. For all the talk, Miz & Morrison were able to stay with DX, but, wonder of wonders, it was Miz who did the job. Thank you.
Mike Adamle resigns after 3+ months as GM. Now we find that maybe Shane & Steph weren't on the same page after all (Steph was on maternity leave to begin with when Adamle took the GM job), and the makings of a sibling rivalry angle. This I like. I'm assuming Marissa is taking care of not only her two sons, but her nieces as well.
Shane exposing the fact that Orton's been goldbricking the last few weeks. Gee, like, the clues were all there!!!;) :p Orton turning on DiBiase---sort of---was a shocker, but I've a feeling this form of tough love will help Team Priceless become even more ruthless.
Kung Fu Naki, Hornswoggle, Boogeyman, Duggan, Slaughter, Lillian, Dusty, Goldust, and Cole busting moves in the ring. Ka-raaaazy, man!!! Lil was having too much fun, it seems.
William Regal challenges Scamtino Marella next week for the IC title. With the show in England, I guess Wills will be a face for a week. Works for me.
What didn't work:
Jericho regains the title after 8 days. Why? Isn't Cena-Batista the money match for Wrestlemania? Makes the title change at Cyber Sunday a waste of time. Thanks for screwing things up again, Gewirtz.
16-woman tag. The last time I saw anything moving in slow motion in a match was when Kurasawa debuted in WCW 15 years ago. Man, this was the worst women's match in WWE in about 5 years. And Beth wins with a schoolgirl rollup on Mae Young? WTF?
-100000 credits for not having Scamtino Marella in a match and having him do his stupid victory march anyway.
The new tag champs in separate matches? WTF? Punk wins via DQ over Orton, but Kofi gets fed to Henry & Kane. I've a feeling Mizark & Kane may be primed to be tag champs down the line. They're 3-0 the last three weeks.
Undertaker vs. J-Me-L wasn't fun, either. J-Me-L decides to take a countout loss, and it looked like he didn't do much to begin with. We've seen better from these two.
Now, who will be the next GM? I nominate Regal once they return stateside. Contrary to what Adamle said, Regal didn't really have much of a personal agenda as GM.
A better idea would be to have a committee formed, because no one person can take charge of Raw anymore.

It's just sad seeing Mae Young without Moolah.

I don’t have much to say about any of them individually, but I liked all the flashbacks to previous RAW moments. Good times.
It was nice to see the Hardys team up to kick off the show and I enjoyed the brothers using their experience and a typical heel tactic to get the win over MVP & Kendrick. Good work, boys.
It was opportunistic, but I was still surprised to see Teddy toss Cody and Manu over the ropes after the trio got rid of Snitsky. I guess karma paid him back when Regal returned to the ring and dumped him over the top as he was about to celebrate. Tough to keep track of guys in a battle royal. Santino did not look excited to be facing Regal next week.
Adamle resigning was a surprise. What he said made some sense about how he tried to be neutral and how he almost wasn’t allowed to by Orton and some others. I guess Randy got what he wanted although not how he planned.
It was a short match, but it was somewhat fulfilling to see Vladimir Kozlov finally gain a measure of revenge for The Bolsheviks 19 second loss to the Hart Foundation at WrestleMania VI. It was a long time coming. :p
At the end of the day, it wasn’t too surprising for DX to get the special show victory over Morrison & Miz. It was entertaining on the way there though. It’s a bit jerkish, but I always really enjoy the DX promos where they are in on the joke (‘actually it just happened it segment four’). The two of them bringing up the stuff Morrison & Miz had said that upset the other was fun. I’m not offended, usually just annoyed by the gay jokes, but I thought the one Triple H had about Morrison & Miz was kind of funny.
I was glad Shane didn’t accept JBL’s “offer” to be GM. I’ve had enough of the GM putting himself in the ring, if Bradshaw retired, it’d be fine, but otherwise no.
The 16 Divas tag match just had way too many Divas. It wasn’t even that entertaining, it was just a huge mess of Divas featuring Mae Young. Serious overkill.
Ted DiBiase really stuck his nose where it didn’t belong. Orton really did not appreciate the help. Cody and Manu were lucky they weren’t the first in the ring. Their backstage confrontation was intense and I think the two second-generation stars made the right call by defering. This was our first chance to see Orton’s tattoos from top to bottom. Does Randy have a brother he needs to break out of prison?
Adamle’s confrontation with Stephanie felt somewhat unexplained, but I still liked him sticking up for himself and being upset with his decisions being undercut.
JBL thought he’d dodged The Undertaker, but Michaels obviously had other plans. At first I wasn’t sure if these two were going to keep at it, but clearly they are. Nice to have JR at ringside for this one.
Man, as if the videos weren’d bad enough, now John Cena immediately gets a title shot. It’s like WWE doesn’t even want him to benefit from the break fans have gotten from him. They’re doing everything wrong.
Damn! sums up the Kung Fu Naki dance segment pretty well. I don’t know how you respond to all that. The ring just filled up with a wide assortment of characters.
I don’t know that Evan Bourne would have done much better (although I’d like to think he would have), but Rey and Kofi were severely outmatched by Henry & Kane. Good thing… The Great Khali saved them… what?
So are Shane & Stephanie about to do battle for control of RAW/the WWE? After the way they interacted when Shane made that match without Steph it could certainly go that way.
Jericho is champion again! I was not expecting that one! He almost became the champ a couple of times with that mess at the cage door. Jericho had to do his best to make Batista look good who seeemed slow on the up take about every time Jericho was going to escape.

Stop blaming Brian Gewertz for EVERYTHING on Raw. Vince always has the final say. You're not as insider as you think just because you read the net. The title switch is fine by me. You can still do the batista/cena match at WM25, it will just be an attraction match. Thankfully, Adamle isn't GM. Hopefully they will just get rid of him. What a waste of money?

I never want to see a Battle Royal again. Every single one of them now ends the exact same way, and I'm done with it. It was clever the first time, now it's tired and repetitive.

To tell you the truth, I expected Vince to appear last night, but it didn't happen. The last scene the kids had seemed a little awkward. Steph appeared to have forgotten her lines for a moment (that's a switch).
I did read that Vince was blaming Jericho for the drop in ratings, but apparently he was wrong, otherwise Jericho doesn't get the belt back so quick. However, this title reign could end up being almost as short as the last. I see him getting through Survivor Series (no way does Cena win the title right off the bat), but Armageddon? I don't think so.

Where'd you read that about vince thinks the ratings dropped because of jericho? More to the point, do you really think that just because it's on the net that it has any validity. In any case, Batista needs to learn to sell better. He'll sell really well and then forget about it at the end during his comeback. Jericho worked on his knee and then Batista runs across the ring and spears him. What a crock! Batista isn't the only one who does this, but he's one of the few in the main events that do this. At least the vast majority of wrestlers that don't sell well enough don't get the main events (that's why). Selling is more important than moves. You can do a million cool moves, but selling to the appropriate degree will get you over a hell of a lot more.

Chalk it up to the inconsistency of writing the plot of the match. Chalk it up to a "adrenaline rush" at a key moment. If it's a formula that has worked for Vince or any other promoter through the years, I don't see the problem you have with it.

No, it's just because batista isn't good at selling. The plot of the match was fine. Vince has no control over the ability/innability of his talent to sell. It breaks believability, that's what i have a problem with.
