View Full Version : What should I do about Agony Booth?

I have tried to write for their website 3 times, and so far I've been rejected all the way. The third time I've tried to write for the site, I got a little bit more compliments on my work, but the owner of the website Albert Walker is still doubtful of my work. The worst part is, even if my work was well-liked by the other members, Walker still makes the final call on whose work gets officially added to the site, and he has not been so appreciative of my work.

It bugs me a lot, because I'll show what I've written to family, friends, and they love what I've been writing, and it gives me confidence to submit it to AB, only to be brought down when I got hordes of people telling me what's wrong with my recap, and saying there's no jokes in my writing at all (even though there are plenty).

And I hate they show favortism. I got a note about how my intro on my latest recap is a page long, but there are a number of official recaps on the site that are a page long! So why the special treatment amongst themselves?

I've become very frustrated as of lately. I don't knoww hat to do. I really like the website Agony Booth, but I despise the people running it. What should I do? Be persistant and keep making submissions to the site? Should I just give up, and admit defeat, or do my own movie-reviewing site? Even though I am not HTML savy.

The people there have really made me feel miserable, and have made me really hate the work that I've done. It's like I can't please them at all.

Submit your stuff to another site. If they don't like it, or you, they won't post it. Worrying and complaining about it isn't going to help. At all.

What ShawnHopkins said. It just isn't worth it to keep trying to get in. Even if there is hope that you will eventually be allowed to join the writing team, imagine what kind of strife you might encounter among the staff? If you're already seeing signs of bigotry and favoritism without even getting a peek behind the curtain, chances are your experience working for the site will be prone to difficulties.

Forget Agony Booth and move on.

You mean like they'd still treat me rudly even if I was allowed to join?

No, I think the point is that even if you get in the "inner circle", you might question on why you wanted to be part of it in the first place.

I have been to Agony Booth and do sense a bit tension between the members. If you want to write but you can't get accepted for whatever reason. Why not use a blog. A basic one is free and you can get feedback. There you can post on what you want to write about. What you write about is still under feedback if you allow but the final decision on if gets posted is up to you, the writer.

I sent a review to the website once and it got accepted, though the guy said he wanted it to be longer, but my laziness got the better of me and I havent really done anything. I guess I dont know about alot of the trouble that goes on there since I dont really go around there alot.
