In 13 episode volumes, so I'm glad WB's not going the 4 episode compilation route.

My knowledge of this show is limited to the fact that Aqua Teen Hunger Force cribbed stock footage from a couple of episodes for their Dr. Weird cold opens, but isn't this show a little too recent for the Hanna Barbera CLASSIC Collection?

I would have preferred a "Complete First Season" release (I guess it's their way of making more money by splitting two seasons into four releases), but I'll take what I can get. Haven't seen the show since it was originally on, but I'll be picking this up for sure. :)

That's cool I really enjoyed this series when it originally aired, but there is one thing I've always wondered about way was the show rebooted so much for the second season. I know it made it more like the orignal, but I've always wonder what the exact reasons for the changes to the show were.

There are such things as "instant classics."
The Real Adventures of Johnny Quest, however, is not one of them. ;)

One of my favorite action series of all time, (and the only show on Cartoon Network that I REALLY miss) is finally coming to DVD.
This news makes up for the fact that KOTH got canceled.

Really? It seemed like the show that would be around for 25 years, yet no one would notice, including FOX itself.

The two seasons were each individual takes on the then-new "Jonny Quest" premise, and were produced by separate teams and animators. IIRC the higher-ups planned to can one season and make a series out of the other, or something like that, but they chose to just air both.

Guys, do you all realize what the best part about this news is?
Combined with the Thundercats, Voltron, Space Ghost, and Birdman sets, we can finally recreate the entire first year of Toonami! :D:D:D

Whoa, I never watched Toonami in it's first year (too young), but I have to say that's awesome.

Over at GAC, there's an interesting thread about the DVD news which talks about the death of Hanna-Barbera:

Wow, I just got done reading that thread as well as the Wikipedia article on Real Adventures and it's interesting how something so simple can go so totally astray.
Although, I'm still a little confused are the Johnny Quest series all in on universe or are the multiple continuities.
Like I said in my earlier post, I really enjoyed Real Adventures during it's original and am looking forward to see it again, and the added knowledge of it's back story will make it interesting to see again.

To be honest, I might pass on this. I liked the show when it first aired, at least until they kept changing the animation and voices. Ezekiel Rage was always my favorite villian, but it seemed like he was a different person each time.

The designs and voices were only changed once for season two. This is because the the crew in charge of the show shifted durring season one and the new people in charge wanted Real Adventures to be closer to the 60's series. So characters (Especially Race) were given character and voice changes to resemble their 60's counterpart better.
Season one and two by all rights can count as two different series as the show was handled very differently. Season one seemed more focused on what "Could be" real, focusing away from things like magic. While season two was a bit more out there and felt more adventurous.
Both seasons had their strengths and weaknesses though season two was much better. Season one had a lot of shock value with the villains of the week dying most of the time, yet most of the villains were dull, Rage and Zurd being the only ones to stand out. And Zurd was over used, to the point where every time they used Quest World you knew Zurd would show up. On the other hand Jessie was better used in season one. In season two she became too much of a damsel in destress. Then again she was too much of a Mary Sue in season one. Had they found a balance between the two I would have been happy.
Now the seasons were connected though as Zurd and Rage were both in season two though had their origins in season one so it's clear that eventually the two stand alone seasons became one show. "Without a trace" a season two episode being a direct sequal to season one's "Escape to quest world" with the nerve gas plot is evidence of this. Season two had Dr. Zin and a Mark Hammil voiced Russian (Forgot his name) added to the Quests villains, with fortantly less time for Zurd and sadly less time for Rage.
Oh yeah I'm buying the DVDs.

Unsure. Real Adventures season two removes the Eighties show and the Telamovies from continuty with the episode "Nemesis." In that episode Dr. Quest meets Dr. Zin for the first time "So we finally meet face to face" making it so their earlier face to face meetings never happened. However is even Real Adventures canon? Who knows. Maybe Real Adventures and the Eighties show/telamovies are seperate timelines?

Still I liked the designs from the first season a whole lot more than Season 2. Not to mention Dr Quest sounded like his nose got plugged in the second half. I guess it would have been easier to accept had they actually seperated the two seasons, but not a single episode aired in order where I lived, so both seasons were intermixed, thus, I would get 3 episodes with S2 animation and then a few episodes with S1 animation.

Very interesting as I've always wanted to know exactly why H-B folded. Kinda disheartning how Turner mishandled the studio and of course Warner's ownership of the name and its properties has been mixed.

That was my least favourite incarnation of Jonny Quest. After Don Messick, the voice of Dr Benton Quest, died it was never the same as it used to be. :crying:
