I've looked for those Popeye cartoons with Popeye and Brutus, that era, for years and have never found them. Ones like the one where he's digging the swimming pool, "Is it ready yet?" "NOT YET!", and the Popeye and Whimpy learning to drive one, that time period (Sea Hag, Jeep). All the ones I see on Ebay or anywhere else are the old Ali Baba Bluto ones or some new Popeye hour from a few years ago which I think was supposed to be horrible. Were these mid period ones summarily destroyed or something?

But hidden from public view. The 60's Popeye cartoons are owned by King Features Syndicate, while the theatricals are owned by Warner Bros. Warner's would have to pay for airing those particular cartoons; that's the same reason we don't get to see cartoons featuring the Pink Panther, Woody Woodpecker, the Harveytoons characters, etc-they don't want to fork over the money to air them.
But from what I heard, they are working out some kind of deal sometime in the future, which may also include DVD releases. We'll see.
I have around 50 Popeye cartoons from the early 60's. I got them from a fellow Popeye fan named Steve Bierly. Check out his page:

Send him an e-mail and you and him might work out a trade.

Thanks pal, I'll look into that. Seems sorta stupid to hold all this stuff back when they could probably figure out a way to where they could all make a buck on it and share it with the public.

There were at least 4 "official" videos released in the 1980's (Popeye and Friends in Outer Space; Popeye and Friends in the South Seas; Popeye and Friends in the Wild West; Travelin' On About Travel), but they weren't all-Popeye; other King Features cartoons like Beetle Bailey and Snuffy Smith were on the tapes too. 16mm prints turn up on eBay too.
