I am about to start preparing a seminar on the subject of race issues in animation, for my university, and I would like to get hold
of a copy of Coal Black And De Sebben Dwarves but I am
finding it hard to acquire. I understand that it is
not available to buy on video, but would you people ofthe forum know of anyway I could get this cartoon?

I need it in PAL format, just to make things even more difficult.

I actually bought a video featuring this toon last year. It was on Shokus Video (Vol. 3) I believe entitled, "Coal Black and De Sebben Dwarfs." It was a tape of public domain cartoons. I would be happy to make you a copy, but sadly I have no way to convert to PAL format. Sorry! :(

I have "Coal Black and de Sebben Dwarfs" on video, but don't even know what a PAL machine looks like. Your best chance is probably to ask someone who lives in Europe or knows someone that does.

There are a few Europeans posting here, aren't there? Maybe they could help.

"Coal Black", to my knowledge, has never been published on a PAL tape. However, in Europe there are PAL video recorders available that can play NTSC tapes also; they are not too expensive anymore (about 150 Euro or thereabouts). A TV that can display NTSC format is also needed, but most newer ones do so.
There are alternatives, however: Digital versions are available on the net. Goopy Geer provides a really good one in RealMovie format (download via FTP, Server: goopygeer.dns2go.com, user: goopy, pass: geer; caution: file is about 40 MB in size); you may play the file on a computer and display the contents via TV-out on your TV.
