"Strait Jacket" On Sci-Fi's Ani-Monday Block - Talkback *MAJOR SPOILERS*

Well, tonight, Gurren Lagann takes the week off for this series to air. Before you bring out the pitchforks and fire, its an OVA, and its only three episodes long. Its based off a light novel by Ichiro Sakaki, which has sold over 500,000 copies in Japan. The plot is about how in the year 1899, magic is used in various industries. However, there seems to be a curse, as whoever uses magic too much ends up becoming a demon. To combat this, a technology called "Mold" is used to stop it from happening. It aired last year in Japan, so its not some hilariouly terrible OVA from the 80's. Watch and see if you like it.

A little hunch told me that if Adult Swim refused to air this, somebody else would, and fast...Actually, if we're talking about dark anime, I prefer FUNimation's Darker Than Black. That or Karas Part 2, but until DTB comes out on DVD, this'll do.

The design looks superior and labored, even for an anime (HA! Boom, in your face!)

With the DVD commercials and the advertising at Comic Con, I'm very interested in this series. Word of mouth says it's not good but I'm still happy that Sci Fi is continuing its trend of new anime week after week.

I had to smile when Blum's character talked about negotiating.

I know I'm making fun of parts of this series, but I'm really enjoying it. Easily more competent than MD Geist but it doesn't touch the awesomeness of Gurren Lagann.

*wow talk about your hard decisions, two characters are forced into a duel and one of them has to live while the other dies and your only choices are a Steven J Blum or a Crispin Freeman character. I couldn't make that decision

Straight Jacket gets a 9/10 from me
but if you were compare it to previous OVAs that have aired and then rate it, I'd have to rate it a perfect 10/10

Wow, a Jewish guy in an anime. Who knew?

And who knew that Strait Jacket would end ten minutes early? I haven't felt that underwhelmed by an ending since Blood:The Last Vampire. Oh well, it was an okay series overall.

It was an okay watch. The way they were going with it, you'd think they were setting it up for a tv series. And I think that's the main problem I had with it: there seemed to be a lot of setup. When it was closing in at the end of the first hour, I kept thinking "okay, something's actually gonna happen... right?". And man, I figured that the brother/sister were gonna die the moment we saw them together. They were just way too happy in something like this.

I would not mind seeing this turned into a full series. I like the setting and the characters, but I would like it all to be fleshed out a lot more. Hopefully Strait Jacket's exposure on TV will help bring that about.

Loved the gore, animation, voice acting, story, and the production design. Just an enjoyeable anime in general. This one's going in my DVD collection.

Steve blum did great as a VA in this movie (But then again he's always good!) The rest of the VA's were pretty good too. The movie was pretty good,,,,although iI did find the Demons apperances somewhat disturbing. overall i'd give this movie a 7/10.:p
