This is the talkback thread for ADV Films Announes Partnership With Sentai Filmworks (http://news.toonzone.net/article.php?ID=26701).

Is Clannad good? Just from what I've seen of screenshots, it looks gorgeous, if nothing else.

I can't say any of the rescued properties tickle my fancy, but it's good to see them not letting older series stay out of print.

My personal problem is that Clannad starts with possibly the weakest arc, but definitely a good one overall. Hopefully they license After Story, which is the second season, too.

Heh, I guess ADV acquired a small share of Geneon titles as well.

With a name like Sentai Filmworks, I was actually kindof thinking they would bring all the old Super Sentai shows to the US. Silly me.

ADV has become a distribution and manufacturing company now since they are unable to license anything themselves. So others license and ADV does the grunt work. *shrugs*

Funi and Bandai are doing the same thing. The Japanese have gotten smart and started settign up their own US offices to act as the master controller for their licenses in the US so the US dubbing houses get less of a cut.

Same here, I saw the word "Sentai" and nearly freaked out.

...yeah....silly me....(freakin' companies won't license Gekiranger *grumble*grumble*)

Of course they won't. Disney has the license to sentai for around 80-some more years. Saban's license was apparently for 99 years worth of sentai. Not sure about the TRUTH in that, but one thing's for sure, Disney's gonna have sentai for a LONG time.

Actually... there is some suspicion on AnimeonDVD that Sentai Filmworlks is actually ADV Films. From what I understood is that the registration information lead to this claim. You can see the post related about it here (http://www.mania.com/aodvb/showpost.php?p=1447738&postcount=2).

Interesting. It rather much does look like one of the guys at ADV made their own LLC. That or someone in the Japanese company set up shop in Houston for a bit.

Uggggggghhh...Don't remind me about how awesome that would be.

Yeah, but FUNimation is still in the licensing business and ADV is not. Then again, Sentai may be an arm of ADV done on the side for whatever reasons (dodge taxes, prevent a repeat of their last partnership, whatever). If it is, then ADV is still in the licensing business, only weirdly instead of straight forward.

Right, it's bad enough we can't get Power Rangers boxsets, but my chances of getting a Dekaranger set are about as likely as the Disney Channel switching to hardcore porn.

So wait is ADV getting out of licensing now? Then what happens to the titles they just licensed?

Nothing, those are the titles they just licensed, except someone else licensed it for them.

ADV is localizing and distributing these titles on behalf of Sentai Filmworks, which is the license-holder of these anime.

Basically they do all the work but another company owns the license.

ADV can and will license wtuf if and whe ngive the chance, if it makes monetary sense. I think the company as a whole will be a lot more judicious about how they go about acquiring titles from now on. This Sentai Filmworks company may very well be a shell company for them to prevent an issues with a japanese license holder being unhappy with them and taking them to the cleaners.

Speaking of Clannad, FUNi got Air and Kanon, right? think they'll do a box at some point?

But if Sentai Filmworks is really ADV Films, isn't it really just ADV licensing them?

Or is this just a totally separate company that will do all licensing from now on for ADV? Sort of like a middleman as it were?

From what I understand Sentai is a middleman.
