Comments:
I'm rather shocked that this release hadn't gotten noted on these boards yet.
If you grew up watching Thundercats and He-Man chances are you caught a few episodes of Silverhawks. It's definetly in the same 'toyetic' vein as those series, but seems to be not quite as well remembered.
Personally I remember being a bigger fan of Silverhawks than Thundercats, probably the space angle that got me. (Though I enjoyed Thundercast too.)
Anyway this DVD release was a surprise. The retrospecitive is short but still interesting for those who remember the series.
I'm still getting throught the episodes, with 32 it will take a bit of time, but they're pretty much what you'd expect from animation from that era. Lots of re-used animation bits, and the dialogue isn't anything to write home about. The characer design is where this series really shined, lots of unique heroes, villians, and other characters. There's a lot of bizzare stuff and you sometimes have to toss logic out the window, but its still a lot of fun.
It's funny but this series is constantly noted as only being around for 1 season, but back then 1 season was 65 epsiodes!
Does anyone else remember this series? Did anyone else pick up this DVD?
