Top spot for me is a tie between Xenosaga (I and III) and the entire Legacy of Kain series.
Then Metal Gear Solid takes #2.

Metal Gear Solid 3 has an excellent voice cast, script, and peformance.

Most adventure games from "LucasArts" had excellent voice-acting. If I had to sort out the best, I'd go with "Day of the Tentacle", "Sam & Max hit the Road", "Full Throttle" and "Grim Fandango".

"Sierra", "LucasArts'" rival gave us at least two games with some of the best voice-acting I've heard: "Quest for Glory IV" & "Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers". Although, the narrator in the latter was supremely annoying, luckily you could turn her voice off.

As for more recent games, "Eternal Darkness" and "Psychonauts" were both very good in this department.

I liked the Kingdom Hearts series cast, for the most part....(the original KH VAs for Leon,Aerith, and Ansem were better than their replacements in KH2,and I don't like the VA for Nightmare Before Christmas' Sally and Shock, though) .....What I enjoyed most was that they got many of the same voice actors from the various Disney movies to voice their characters for the games...

I thought Homeworld had some pretty good voice acting in it:

Persona 3 is up there as one of the best dubs. It would probably have been the best if not for the IMO under translated script.

No More Heroes had a pretty awesome dub, but I don't know that it tops Bioshock.

And while no one would claim it for "best," I think House of the Dead 2 is definitely in the running for "most entertaining." (-:

No More Heroes wasn't dubbed, actually. It was always in English, even in Japan (where they used Japanese subtitles). Same goes for Killer7.

Which reminds me, add No More Heroes and Killer7 to the list of games with the best voice acting.

No More Heroes, BioShock, Mass Effect, and Team Fortress 2 VA cast make the games more memorable for me.

inFamous 2 was very good. New Cole did a very nice job and now I can't listen to the old Cole without feeling dated.

A lot of what I thought was the 'best' has already been said already. Psychonauts, Mass Effect, Team Fortress 2, No More Heroes games, the LucasARTs games (woot Monkey Island!), Legacy of Kain and Eternal Darkness. I'd like to throw in a mention for Beyond Good & Evil, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Portal 2 and Ratchet & Clank. The VAs in these games just....complete the characters, and part of the reason why these characters are so entertaining to watch.

I was about to completely agree with what this person said...and then I realized *I* said it...three years ago.

I'm surprised this wasn't mentioned but Persona 3 FES AND 4 have probably the best voice acting from an rpg I have ever heard.

Odd. I thought I made a post mentioning both Persona 3 and 4....must have hit the preview button by accident. Anyway, I agree completely!

The post went something like this...

L.A. Noire, Bioshock and Portal 2 had all around great voice acting. Grim Fandango, Psychonauts, Killer7, Fable III and Persona 3 and 4 had great authentic voice acting; and then there's Deadly Premonition which had yes, great, amazing, voice acting that sprang out of nowhere.

Yeah No More Heroes has great voice acting. It was so hammy and spot on.

I loved the voice acting in Final Fantasy XII. I thought all of the voices were great but Baltheir's and some of the villain's were particularly effective. The accents and dialects were a nice touch too methinks.

Rockstar games have good voice acting. I have run into many western based games that have had surprisingly bad voice acting, though.

Persona 3 and 4 have excellent english adaptations (4 moreso) though the voices do sometimes miss for me. I never got on with Fuuka's voice in P3. And I felt Naoto in P4 was a little miscast.

I do like Resident Evil 1's voice acting. Not because it's good though.;)

Good gravy, thread necromancy...

Voice acting in games is hit or miss for me, because when I grew up you were lucky to find a game with a soundtrack. So I tend not to take interest in the voices (that and some of my favorite series are known for their silent protagonists).

I do have respect for Resident Evil 4's team, though. I remember reading an EGM article on Leon's VA, where he commented that the ADR was tough work but he still did a great job.

GLaDOS is a good one, too. Much more obvious at the end of Portal and throughout 2.

I would say the overall highest quality of voice acting in a video game that I've played would be the Uncharted series. Nolan North (who I'm sure most of you know is a big video game voice actor) brings characters to life in such a natural way.

The games themselves are very cinematic so feel like a movie in themselves, and the acting from the whole cast make the game so much more immersive.

I'm surprised more people didn't mention Red Dead Redemption. I also would like to add in No More Heroes and No More Heroes 2, GTA IV, Mass Effect 1 and 2, the Metal Gear Solid series, BioShock, Battlefield Bad Company 2, the Uncharted series, and the God of War series.
