View Full Version : Most Upsetting cancellation?

What cancellation of a show between 1990 and 2002 made you most upset?

I remember getting upset when reruns of a certain show on CN ended right before I was going to start taping it.

Last TV season I absolutely loved "The Fugitive" on CBS with Tim Daly. It had action, drama, suspense, everything you look for in a quality show. It was one show that my entire family could watch together. We don't find those shows very often anymore. :(

There seemed to be a big net campaign going to save it, but in the end it wasn't enough. I heard a couple rumors about some TV movie to wrap the show, but I guess that won't happen at this point. :(

I still have the two-hour finale on tape. The "ending" gaves me goosebumps and sent chills down my spine, as a matter of fact I'm getting them right now just thinking about it.

Lone Gunmen. It's hard when any series you really enjoy gets the axe, but when it gets the axe right in the middle of a story line that is unresolved....well, that's like the network coming into my home, turning off my TV and telling me I can't watch the end of my show. It's rude, its inconsiderate to not only the viewers but also to the creator of the show and all involved.

Cal, you read my mind. Who the heck would cancel a tv show in the MIDDLE of a two parter? Talk about disrespect. Chris Carter should've hauled out of there after that.

Nowhere Man on UPN. too many loose ends needed to be closed.

I'd say the two that caught me off guard was Spongebob Squarepants and Invader ZIM. I was very ticked off about ZIM, but if the Spongebob creator didn't want to make anymore I wouldn't force him to.

Early Edition starring Kyle Chandler. I liked the storyline, and Kyle Chandler is a talented actor (or at least, he was the right actor for the role). It sorta went downhill for a while, but after that jeffery kid and buffy lady (kristy swanson, I think her name is) left, the show started to pick up again.

Then CBS decided to cancel the "Saturday night of Heros", Martial Law and Early Edition (well, Martial Law went downhill after what's his name started taking over, Lee Goldberg, I think. ARGH, the same guy who, when he took over SeaQuest production, got it cancelled too!!!). Then Chuck Norris cancels Walker, Texas Ranger (well, not really but his spin off, Sons of Thunder , got cancelled and that made me hopping mad)

Young Hercules on FOX kids lineup was cancelled, too, becuase it appealed too much to the boys or something. I liked that show. Cute guys and good messages for kids. :p

1. HBO's Spawn, The series came close to the comic, and was much more bloody.

2. Fox Kids Afternoon. They gave up on a good thing.

3. Sci-Fi series Total Recall 2070

4. Worlds Wildest Police Chases.

Definitely would be Nowhere Man, it did help the conspiracy theories that maybe "they" took the show off the air.

Also, Quantum Leap, which I here may be making a comeback.

Brisco County Junior. I think the first story arc with the orb was great, but the network pressured the show to stay on with a new story they should have given it time and let the writers return next season with a new season story arc. But oh well, the series was well done, I'd get it on DVD.

All the way back to 1999? Good--that covers a bunch of stuff. And since Brisco County's already been mentioned, here's a few more.

1.) Mystery Science Theater 3000 This is a show that really did have a big effect on my life--a lot of friends today wouldn't be in my life if we didn't have this as a common-interest stepping stone. I still haven't forgiven Sci-Fi for this, and now The Chronicle on the chopping block...

2.) Xyber 9: New Dawn Well, duh. You knew I was gonna put this here. I firmly believe that, if this had been allowed to continue, it could've ranked up there with Gargoyles.

3.) CN's decision to kick JQ:TRA off the air completely, instead of just off Toonami This happened during the phase when I really started to hate Toonami, and now I don't even watch it. Don't ask me why, but CN seems to think the whole JQ franchise is evil & icky. TRA, being the newest, should at least have a 2 a.m. weeknights slot, but instead they've just confined it to Limbo. Yeesh.

I agree... But the show's been on for ten years! That's quite a feat for a cult show!

I can't believe nobody has mentioned The Tick (Live Action). That show was so great, it was unbelieveable.... :(

Calmity Jane!

It got cancelled after only a few eps.
The same goes for Wolf Lake, but I glad that UPN may put it back on the air.

Yes, I agree MST3K was an awesome show, I can't believe they canned it.

BTW- What was Cyber 9 about I saw some action figures for the show but never saw it on TV.

geez...

Yeah, MST got axed, but IMO..it was going downhill...=\

Babylon 5...it got axed...then it got picked up again...
screwed up the timing, and the 5th season suffered...

B5 Crusade - TNT forced changes, and the show never got off the ground....reading JMS's thoughts on the show, it could have been so much more.

Still feeling the loss of Darien and the gang on SciFi's The Invisible Man.

And I really liked Xena, but the show had started going down hill, so I think it just played itself out.

Since you mentioned Xena....
1. Cleopatra 2525. It was better in the 30 minute format. It had good action sequences, a good, developing story and overal premise, and gratuitous T&A (always a plus for me).

2 Jack of All Trades. I liked this show as much as Cleo, and they were a good pair. It was outrageously funny without having that sitcom feel to it. Even though I knew the premise of the show would not allow for an extended life, I thought it would at least last longer than it did.

True. But keep in mind, I didn't get it till it was on Sci-Fi and had to play catch-up. It seemed to vanish faster that way. And the basic concept (throw back the bile bad movies give you instead of enduring in silence) is timeless.

Jack of All Trades... The world needs more Bruce Campbell. Why don't programmers understand that?

Okay, someone who can't be contacted through a private message asked about Xyber 9. I don't wanna clog up the board & be a pest, so drop me a line in a private message if you wanna know. Sorry, but I don't know how to contact you.

mentioning Xyber 9 within the same sentence with Gargoyles is a big disservice to Gargoyles. Gargoyles is one the most original ideas and original stories to date for an animated show. Xyber 9 does not even begin to compare with Gargoyles.

I have to agree with the man in the dark glasses and glittery jacket. I also was sad to see Daria go, but it was a good sendoff, and it was the producer's idea and not the suits talking...so I guess that was best.

Theres an upcoming episode of theX-files that will rapup the cliffhanger. It will bring back Jimmy and Yves plus michael McKean as Morris Flecher. I've heard something BIG is going to happen as well. Its going to air the first week in april.

American Gothic - Although they attempted to create a vague ending, it just couldn't bring the closure the show needed. Great pity - even if it hadn't a second series, a tightly wrapped ending could have given the season a mini series feel. As it is, I dread the finale episode.

Twin Peaks - Deserved a better ending - or film. I wish they'd done a film that wrapped the plot holes up rather than the prequel which was no doubt going to bomb. If the follow film had been successful, THEN you make a prequel - not the other way round. Great pity - especially when you hear of some of the ideas they had for the next series...

Space: Above and Beyond - Really beginning to pick up when the cancellation klaxon made the suits hit the deck and run for the exits. Very sad indeed.

Notice what all these had in common? A non fixed time slot. Mess with the schedule and you lose the audience. Networks don't know how to deal with some shows and mess the around until the views - many people decidely thick - can't keep up and loss interest. Sigh, the majority favours the foolish... ;)

Sonic the Hedgehog *SatAM version*. It was right at a cliffhanger-who WERE those red eyes? And what happened to Robotnik and Snively?

(I DO know what happened eventually...well known info on Sonic fandom now. But it still angers me Sonic was cancelled)

Another one was Histeria!, which was the best Silver Age show to me. It also got me into message boarding, ToonZone, and history in general...I owe it a lot.

Invader ZIM. The greatest show Nickelodeon had and they cancelled it.... Morons!
