Some shows, such as Tom and Jerry Kids and Tiny Toon Adventures had connections to older cartoons.
I'm not saying it is bad, but I think the reason for that is the lack of new ideas.

It sometimes is, and an easy way to get money out of old things.

At least Tiny Toons had original characters.
Next to X-men Evolution, you see where TTA went so right in that area.

Well, you're talking about shows that essentially are using the same characters or altered versions of them in new toons. How about cartoons that try to be different but are just rip offs of older shows? There is the Flintstones that comes to mind, a self professed rip off of the Honeymooners. I know the Honeymooners wasn't an animated show, but that's what I am talking about.
Can anybody else think of anymore?

...not a cartoon, but...anyone else see that Living Single is just Golden Girls, but younger, urban, and black?
How about that updated rennovated next-gen Ghostbusters thing? :shudder:

Half the Characters Hana-Barbera came up with were variations on current actors and comedians... The Flinstones only had the two Male Characters that had Honey Mooners Counterparts..Fred was basicly Jacky Gleeson, and Barney was whom ever played the neighbor.
Everyone else in the show were unique characters. So to call The flinstones a Honey Mooners Rip is wrong.

Most updates hurt; they're victims of bad tacked-on sidekicks or babyfication. Even some of the better ones (I'm thinking the Jonny Quest franchise) fall prey to this. If it were a straight update, it might not be that bad, but for some reason, add-ons that cause more harm than good are always made.

I think there was a Hanna-Barbera show called "Where's Huddles" that was a supposed take-off of the Flintstones.
