That pic is sooo cool! I'm glad I broke up the tie that Supergirl and Space Ghost had at the last minute (I know, I know, I should've voted before the last 5 min, but I just couldn't resist. I had to wait... :o ). I loved that thing that John did to Space Ghost's energy blast to make it more 3-d like. I can't imagine a better pic for Space Ghost. :)
Just one question, who are the other 2 people besides Space Ghost? I don't know a lot about him and his friends, except he's just a superhero and a talk-show host. Can anyone explain it, or maybe post a link?

The two kids are Jan & Jace, Space Ghost's partners in the original cartoon series... now, my big question is... Where's the Monkey?!?!?!
Ah well, despite the fact that Blip isn't there, it's still an awesome pic =)

I loved the original show when I was a kid so I definately wanted to show the SUPERHERO Spaceghost in this pic. The talk show host is great but he was so cool as the intergalactic space cop!

Radness John, Powerbands Blazin' even! I have to admit, the niced inked look of the whole thing is making Jan and Jace look cooler than SG himself. Black shiny costumes are always cool looking, even though they're just like "Yeah Get him Space Ghost, You do all the work, we're just eye candy for the living!"
The powerbands look major cool though.

Thanks nerium
I always thought Jan and Jace should be colored more to compliment Spaceghost and to look more like teammates. Hence the black added into the Alex Toth design, I'd probably want their tunics in red or yellow to also go with the big man.

Fantastic work as always, John! I also like the black accents to Jan & Jace's outfits (nice vinyl-like sheen), and check out the astro-booty on Jan - yow! It's also nice to see Space Ghost kickin' it old-school heroic-style. Thanks again for all your hard (and speedy!) work!

Hi Domino
I ink two different layers, one the line art and the other one the shadow level. I change the opacity of the shadow level in photoshop and lighten it, hence the gray. However I did the same thing on my Question avatar, with color underneath the shadow level the shadows become semi-translucent and appear to take on the color of the tone beneath it. We do this same technique in animation.
Then on the background, I try to match gradient tones to the black, white and gray tones on the drawing.
In Spaceghost's case I also painted stars into the sky in photoshop as well as adding lense flares to pop up some of the stars and details.
Cheers

Mr. Delaney, let me just say you've outdone yourself once again. Rather than one character we get 3 this time around. Action Space Ghost has never looked better, and the twins look like they could actually do something than be hostages for once :p I love how you have a kind of glow around SG's eyes, sort of like his "ghost" powers or something. You never cease to amaze me. Hopefully the Watchmen will show up in a poll soon. I can't wait to see your rendition of them(not all the characters mind you, I know that would be too much to ask anyone, but a team up pic of Nite-Owl and Rorschach would be ultra cool  )

There are more characters out there that people can love other than your typical DC or Marvel Superhero.
To be honest, I find the fact that characters like Freakazoid and Space Ghost, combined with the more popular ones like Spidey and Bats, can still be popular quite refreshing really. :)
It takes away from the fact that all we ever see in comic books are grim serious comic book superheroes and villians, instead of the more lighthearted or not as serious guys as Space Ghost and/or F!
I suppose it all depends on your perspective, but I dont mind it, or think its THAT big of a deal, one bit. I think its good.
Anyhoo - VERY COOL pic Mr. Delaney :D

John,
My favorite part of your sketches is always the simple strokes. I love the idea of taking away details to make a drawing more intense. Space Ghost's face is not exactly the most exciting part of the drawing, but it's the highlight for me. It accomplishes so much with some very basic shapes. You've definitely mastered this bold style.

"Astro-booty"? Sounds like a P-Funk album.
This is a cool pic, and actually improves some on the original designs. Now if only there were a new SG action series with this look.

Harley did the coloring for that banner. I think fewer people are coloring because the Photoshop stuff in the drawing (like lens flares and fading backgrounds) makes it difficult.

A couple of questions for all you Photoshop colorers out there, is it really hard to color pics? When I get Photoshop, I wanna try and color some pics to see how hard it is. Do you think beginners like me that are going to try Photoshop, do you think we can do really good coloring jobs once we get used to it? Are there any special tutorials out there in the net to teach people some tips on how to make you coloring better? The reason I'm asking this, is because I wanna try and color pics, so they look just like the colored pics by the proffessional DC artists. Do you think I could do it?
Sorry for going off-topic here, I just wanted to ask a few questions. Anyway, as I've said before, I love looking at the pic, and I hope this week's poll will have a lot of characters that would look cool if John would draw it.
Also, Harley, can we request pics of characters that were already drawn, but in an entirely diff. costume? For example, Spider-man with his 2099 costume? Just wanted to know since I would love to see pics of Spidey with his different costumes.
Well, I think I should stop talking right now since I've been going off-topic again. Hope to see the next poll up soon!

I can color anything with Photoshop
I could color the Space Ghost thing, but the problem is I don't like him that much. If Two Face or Megatron win this poll, I'll color them. I can color anything, but only things I like.
Take a look at my avatar. It's your Poison Ivy. I colored it even before I knew you did it. Someone posted it for us Ivy fan's elsewhere. Chances are the avatar will be gone, I change it everyday. So you can enjoy it for the rest of the night at least.
To answer someone's question
Photoshop is easy and it's not hard at all. If you wait till tomorrow, when I've got more time I can help you with any question you have Batkid
Cruz it's really not hard if you know what you are doing. I'm not saying that in a rude or smarty way. It comes from experience and pratice with the program. If you play around with it long enough you'll pick up all of the tricks.

It's really just practice. Although I'm certain there must be tutorials out there. Try starting with them straight b&w pics. They're the easiest to work with. If you show your colored work on the Drawing Board (http://forums.toonzone.net/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=53) , there's more than a few people there who would be willing to give advice.

I was going to leave this unmentioned, but my geekiness won't let me...
Spidey 2099 is a different character than Spider-Man. Miguel O'Hara was Spidey 2099, while regular Spidey was Pete Parker, of course. So they're as different as Bruce and Terry, and not one guy in two costumes. You probably knew that anyways...
I wasn't a big fan of those comics, but I have to admit I like the look of the costume. I could see myself voting for it, depending on the other choices. :)

Really? I loved David's writing and thought Leonardi's art brought the right mood to the series. That was one of the series my brother, Alex, and I couldn't wait to get our hands on.
Last time Brian and I hit a comics convention in town, I went and picked up all the issues I had lost over time. My poor pockets. =x

I only tried the first few issues (I don't know who worked on those) and haven't read them in years, but I think part of it was that I just didn't like the 2099 concept. It just rubbed me the wrong way. I tried out all of the 2099 books when they launched the line and it just didn't work for me. I probably should try to dig out those issues when I go home if I find the time to go through my incredibly unorganized collection.

Oh, Harley, that is gorgeous.
You know, "Coast to Coast" had for me totally ruined the idea of a serious Space Ghost cartoon. So much so that not even John's terrific sketch could totally shake the idea that SG is yelling "Spank ray!" while firing his power band.
But that coloring job did it. I could totally get into a first class SG cartoon, if it had the power and glory that John's linework and your coloring brought to it.
In fact, heh heh, check out the new avatar. :D (Yeah, needs tweaking.)
