If the series ended any other way, the whole entire series would seem very superficial.

God damn, it's alright for someone to have a different view on the ending of the damned series.
Personally, I thought the ending was stupid. I don't why every anime fan is in bed with this show.

Thank you. I'm really glad that wasn't taken offensively. It's amazing how easily people get pissed off here.

Akira, put spoiler tags in your post.
Yes, Spike really died. The movie takes place between episodes 23 and 24. Of course, if they really wanted to, they could make many "sequels" in a similar way - by placing it in between episodes. The real reason why there won't be any sequels is that Watanabe has said that the flavor of the series ("The saddness that things must come to an end")would be ruined if they try to milk it too much. And I agree with him.

I totally agree with Watanbe, it would be a violation of what they've done to make something that takes place after RFB. I'll mention that I REALLY respect him for that, normally, anime is milked for all it's worth. That being said, I would have liked it if things had ended a little less bitterly. I loved Spike's last word and gesture though.

akira, the movie's already out, there's some other thread about it, go read that...
:( :( :( What a sad ending, though. I admit it's a terrific end, but part of me just wishes everyone would have ended up A-OK, and skip off into the horizon with their arms locked togetther after agreeing to stay best buds forever and ever on the Bebop. Sure, that would be the worst end ever, but d***, maybe I wouldn't feel so sad then.

I would just like to say that I've never been an anime fan.
I checked out Cowboy Bebop one night. Luckily, I managed to catch it during the first episode. I was hooked. I watched every episode. I saw 26 last night and almost had a heart attack.
Cowboy Bebop is the best thing I've ever seen in my life. Even better then the time I saw boobies.
That is all

Um..ok
I like the end of cowboy bebop, as sad as it was it just seemed...fitting.

Hey, I'm not a newbie, and I like DB, DBZ, AND Pokemon, so there. :p

Okay. I never really loved the show like most others seemed to. I found most of the episodes that I watched like an animated drama version of Seinfeld...a show about nothing. They had some good episodes, but not enough to make it worthwhile to me. It was the anticipation of seeing the show that was better than the show itself IMO. Then again, I like action anime, so Cowboy Bebop was probably over my head.
But the ending to the show was good. If they had kept up the theme and pacing of the last two episodes with a majority of the series, then I might like it better. As it stands now, I would not buy it on DVD (if I had the chance). I can say this, the show is a testimony that anime can showcase all types of stories instead of what most people think anime is usually about. I.E. big eyed kids running around with cute pet monsters, using magic, giant robots, or outlandish guns.

Gah...I watched the final episode...but missed the one leading to the final episode..GAH!
OK, Dumb question (maybe) what happened to Ed?

Ed left the Bebop to go back (presumably to be with her father) at the end of "Hard Luck Woman" (Session 24). Ein came with her too.
Fata, I thought the movie took place between sessions 22 and 23?

On an unrelated note: Brendan, how did you get your avatar to be that big? That's gotta be less space then what I thought was allowed.

That's just a problem with the vBulletin software. You're not supposed to have an avatar that big. An admin should come by and fix it soon enough.

To me, the ending was very bittersweet. I wished that somehow everything would be okay, and the cowboy would get to ride off into the sunset with his ladylove. But 10 minutes after watching the final scene, I realized that there was only one true way to end Cowboy Bebop...and it was absolutely perfect.

That Spike died was no surprise. He was a man who lived in darkness and didn't seem to care about whether lived or not. It was the killing of Julia that bothered me--it was senseless, somehow, her only sin being not following Vicious' orders to kill the man who loved her. I suppose she loved him too, in her fashion. His line about his glass eye is chilling--seeing the past in one eye and the future in the other (which one was the fake? I couldn't tell). I sort of thought she'd survive to bury him. At least in death Julia looked beautiful--no bruises on her face from the ground's impact or blood from the mouth/nose (maybe it was edited out, though). She really was his sole reason to live; when she died Spike simply gave up. Though he did make sure to drag Vicious and a few others down to hell with him.
