This thread will serve as the talkback for the entire series' run on the network. You know the rules.

Sheesh, has it been this long already since Speed Grapher ended?

And first up: the classic high school struggle between good girl and snob.

And STILL no subtitles. What did that note say?

You've got mail...FROM HELL!

Took her this long to respond? There must have been a backlog.

She's already in hell.
Seriously, is there no greater hell than being the least popular kid in school?

"What the hell is this?"
EXACTLY!

"What the hell's going on here?"
EXACTLY!

Oooh! Pretty end credits!

This is, by definition, a win-lose-lose situation. Sure, your grievance is going to be avenged, but you'll be going to Hell with the same person that's been causing you problems. Granted, it will be a while before you die, but there's that mark on you that will remind you that you're going to Hell.

Either way, it's going to be one creepy show. The animation is good, but we need subtitles for all that kanji! We can also live with digital paint! Also, the bully really needed to go to Hell, and that was one creepy sequence to prove that she stole the money.

Sounds like a combination of Paranoia Agent and Death Note, two of my favorite anime thrillers.

Yep, the premiere episode pretty much supports that; she got help from a supernatural force to make her problems go away--by having the other person killed. Actually, the thriller-with-internet story also kind of reminds me of Serial Experiments: Lain.

I wonder how the story will be structured from here: stay with Mayumi, or look at other poor tormented souls? The latter sounds more interesting, but then again I'd like to see how Mayumi develops after this. Either way, the story could lead back to her.

Glad that bullying b**** got what she deserved:evil:...sad that Mayumi's gonna suffer for it too, eventually.

Off topic: the Automat package is kinda grooooovy.

Watch the rerun of this when I came home last night. It also reminds me of Death Note, and Serial Experiments: Lain. Nice to see that mean girl get what she deserved, too bad about Mayumi, but at least she live a full life now, unlike Light. I'm hooked on the first episode, and waiting for more to air.

I'll put this in a spoiler box, even though its not really spoiling anything.

Having seen the first 12 episodes on IFC's On Demand over the summer(before I went back to college), the episodes are pretty episodic. Maybe it changes from that point on, but yeah just throwing it out there.

Having seen the first 12 episodes on IFC's On Demand over the summer(before I went back to college), the episodes are pretty episodic. Maybe it changes from that point on, but yeah just throwing it out there.

Keeping the spoiler box just in case:

I think you mean "independent" there rather than "episodic" -- none of the episodes really have anything to do with each other, and none of the people who make the deal with Hell Girl are ever seen in the first season again, although there is one episode about a guy who made the deal decades ago and is now facing his own death. There isn't anything like a real on-going plot until around episode 8, when Hajime and Tsugumi are introduced, but their on-going plot doesn't really get going until around episode 21, IMO.

That's not a typo. Most of what you're going to get for the rest of the season is the same thing as episode 1 with the names changed.
I wasn't kind to the series until the last volume (Vols. 1-4 (http://news.toonzone.net/article.php?ID=22121), Vol. 5 (http://news.toonzone.net/article.php?ID=23037), and Vol. 6 (http://news.toonzone.net/article.php?ID=23966)), and The New York Times reviewer makes the exact same points I did (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/30/arts/television/30hell.html?ref=television) about the first 5 episodes, except much more briefly. Then again, he only had to sit through 5 episodes rather than 18 before he wrote his review, so I admit I might have been a lot grumpier.

The following is your reminder bump about the next episode of Hell Girl debuting tonight. Why am I posting this at midnight-ish? Because I work all day later today and will probably miss the 8pm showing. Thank you, DVRs! Anyway, here's a brief overview of what to expect from Episode 2 of Jigoku Shoujo (BTW, I will be posting different names of what Hell Girl is called around the world every week; this week, the original Japanese name in romanji):

Episode 2 - The Possessed Girl (Mi irareta shōjo)
A girl named Ryoko is being stalked. After a year of investigating, the police discover that the stalker is one of their own and comes from a highly infuential family, forcing the police to act stupid about the whole situation.

Kitschensyngk

This week, a stirring story of student vs. stalker.

Hey, they've made their AUTOMAT bug smaller.

And STILL NO SUBTITLES!

How complicated can it get?
Your stalker is the policeman who came to your house after you called the police to report a stalker near your house.

Headless doll? Now that's eerie.

Eternal damnation in exchange for a moment's peace.
To think, when she dies, she'll join her stalker in the hereafter.

Oh crap DON'T GET IN THE CAR DON'T GET IN THE CA--oh crap squared.

:ack: Now there's a twist.

Relationships aren't forged on routine unwanted e-mails and nightly phone calls.
Or dead animals and headless dolls in neatly wrapped boxes.

Sucks that the victim has to go to hell, but it feels so good when the perp gets what he's got coming.

"What the hell's going on here?"
EXACTLY!!

Welcome to the river Styx. Don't worry, the fare is on me--you'll be too busy being tormented to think about money where YOU'RE GOING!!!

"Where the hell are you taking me?"
EXACTLY!!

Best not to let them see that--they seem like the kind of parents who'd rather die than let you get a tattoo.

I go with the theory that they are super advance, high technological, super mystical computer from the bowels of hell.

As for this episode, I found it mess up it was the cop, it did make sense, I just find it weird that cop would go out of his way to impress a school girl. "She isn't even legal yet... or is she?"

1. There was email software and even web-browser for the old macs (http://www.euronet.nl/users/mvdk/What%20can%20I%20do.html). Blame it on the fact they stuck around in schools for years after they disappeared in homes, and the fact that some of the computers Apple released in that form factor did have an upgrade path. One of the first machines I used the Internet on was in fact a Mac SE/30 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macintosh_SE/30).

2. Hellgirl could be an awesome case modder too, and it's actually got a PC in it (http://www.mini-itx.com/projects/mac-itx/).

Unfortunately, the show keeps up the formula for most of it's run. I don't mind episodic shows at all but for this show, it seems like having self-contained episodes hurt it more than help it.

I missed the second episode, but is "Sakasama no Chou", the OP, still cut? It was cut from the first episode, which struck me as a little odd...but then again, I hadn't seen the first episode of Hell Girl in a long time.
And they really need to stop having Mamiko Noto sing. >_> Her songs, at least in my opinion, are a bit...unpleasant.

This episode kind of reminds me of a '50s Tales from the Crypt comic I heard about in some articles on the TV show when the DVDs were coming out. I forget what the villain did (I think he murdered someone on the opposing team), but I do know he was murdered by the opposing team and his body parts were used as baseball equipment. *UGH* That scene, among others, led to TftC being banned back in the 50s.

I've also been giving IT Crowd a try, but I don't think I'm feeling this Britcom thing.

Why are most of the revenge-wishers (for lack of a better term) young women? We only had one male lead so far; I'd like to see more in the future, and maybe throw some adults in the mix. Even Paranoia Agent was more varied in its victims-of-the-week. (I figure things will get a little mixed up soon soon, but this is still a little too formulaic so early on).

And is it just me, or did that one guy look like the reporter from Witchblade?

well, im going to make a wild and probably very wrong/inaccurate assumption to answer that. Based on the fact that the manga adaptation of this anime is a shojo (in a shojo mag and everything), im going to assume that like the manga adaptation this anime was intended for a young female target audience, therefore most characters who matter and or are the important ones or the center of the episodes will be young teenage girls.

Strange that IFC's Media Project miniseries starts on the same day the journalist joins the Hell Girl cast.

The episode guide was kinda vague on this one, but it think it has something to do with silent friendship this week.

Why is it that pivotal scenes in Japanese television always occur at opposite ends of a railroad crossing?

Ladies and gentlemen, your new characters Hajime Shibata and his kid Tsugumi. Let's make them feel welcome.

He doesn't have very many friends, does he?

I think you're gonna owe her FIVE trips to a theme park when this is over.

Hey look, a continuation from the last episode! Hajime becomes more and more obsessed over what he saw last episode. Meanwhile, Yuka and her sister Hiromi's dream of opening a bakery together is ruined by someone from the past.

On the good ship Hell Girl this week, it's a sweet trip to a candy shop where aspiring bakers play on the gloomy beach of Damnation Bay.

Hey! An episode which connects with the last episode!

Suddenly I crave cake.

This is too normal. When does it all hit the fan?

Whoa. The cake really is a lie.

"Fonathan's"?

There's those namedroppers again. Does Ai pay them to promote the site?

When it's all goose eggs in military time, someone's about to get scrambled.

If I knew you were coming, I'd have baked a cake.

She just goes straight to the Hell Correspondence that quickly? Shouldn't she (we) get more information on this first?

You will never know the joys of heaven blah blah blah.

Well, Yuka, some people are just...bastards.

Okay. That's enough info. Take him out!

Closes your bakery, and then calls you and your sister a pair of sluts. PULL THAT STRING!

Gordon Ramsay's got nothing on THIS kitchen nightmare.

So much for having your cake and eating it too.

Ah, sweet revenge. Or just desserts. Whichever you like.

Okay, no more puns.

Someone staring at you while tapping her pencil in the same spot. Oh yeah, you's gonn' get p0wn3d.

Why can't people solve their own problems these days?
...Well, for starters, apparently authority figures are corrupt and your tormentors are in good with them.

I sense much fear in you.

There's one method of harmless revenge. Stare at her during P.E. class and ruin her concentration.

Now who's staring?

Hey Ai, just curious, what happens when one of those doll things is found by whoever you want vengeance on?

Did she just flip Hajime off?

Err, I'm not sure that's how to use that doll.

Poor Wanyuudou.

Err...what's behind your back?

Has anyone who went to Hell Correspondence ever canceled an order?

Eros? Is that the band's name?

Uh oh, Minami's making herself look like a stalker, this may not end well for her, like in episode 7...

Yikes! She's got it now!

Methinks Hajime is making people want revenge on him too...

Ouch, poor Wanyuudou. At least the ribbon hasn't been pulled...yet.

Now she's having second thoughts, even more interesting...

Wow, revenge is quite contagious...

Two for the price of one?! No, not quite, but she's still going below later.

Well, this has been another interesting twist. Apparently, the previous deal lasts until another person makes a new one on the doll.

Revenge on a reporter next week...could it be Hajime?! Nah, too soon I hope. At least it's another male, and an older one too.

That's how you put a curse on somebody? You make a doll of that someone and then you nail it to a shrine? Hmm, I always wondered why when you used Curse attack, your Pokemon would hammer a nail through himself.

Speaking of Japanese religion, what exactly do they mean by Hell? Is there a concept of Hell in Shintoism? How about Buddhism? I thought people went through reincarnation cycles instead, being born as lower life forms if they were evil. Or is this Hell supposed to be the Judeo/Christian/Islamic idea of Hell? Can anyone please clarify?

(Quoting from memory)

"Where's that other girl?"
"In Hell"
"What?"
"But it's O.K. I'm going to Hell, too. I think we can both be friends again there."

Was this the episode where the schoolgirl at the end forces her friend to pull the string at the temple? It really cheesed me off that the entire episode relies on everyone involved being a complete and utter moron. I think the ending was aiming for bitter irony, but it came off as total stupidity to me.

Most Asian religions have a similar or comparable concept, which is often translated in English as "Hell" for simplicity's sake, since the specifics can be pretty different. It's not a definitive source, of course, but Wikipedia lists a bunch of different Hells (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hell) and Underworlds (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Underworld) including the Shinto Yomi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yomi) and the Chinese import Diyu (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diyu)(which is pronounced Jigoku in Japanese, and is the first word in Jigoku Shojo, the Japanese title for Hell Girl). Searching the Encyclopedia Mythica (http://www.pantheon.org/) can turn up some other descriptions of Hells as well.

In Buddhist and Hindu thought, "Hell" isn't the eternal afterlife since their doctrines of reincarnation don't really allow for it -- Hindu thought holds that you'll be reincarnated forever, while the only "end of the line" in Buddhist thought is Nirvana. However, some doctrines hold that generating enough bad karma in your current lifetime can result in your next rebirth in a world of torment and suffering that's roughly equivalent to Hell. However, unlike the Judeo-Christian idea of Hell, the idea is that you will eventually be reborn out of Hell by generating enough good karma, although doing so may take eons.

Agreed with you there. I cringed when Shiori (She's in the same class as Minami but she's so much taller?) all of the sudden tried to use the doll against those other girls. I guess Minami was too scared to admit to Shiori that the doll was apparently preset to act against Shiori.

It took me a while to figure out what was going on. I guess Shiori ditched Minami to be with popular kids. Pretty sucky, but still, Minami's reasons for calling HellGirl may be the most petty reasons yet. Up to now the HellGirl victims have been criminals, even murderers. Shiori wasn't nearly that league. I'm surprised HellGirl didn't reject Minami like she did that killer CEO.

Ed, thanks for all the information about the different Hells. I would've had a difficult time sorting all through them on my own. One thing though, you say that these Hells aren't supposed to be permanent. But HellGirl keeps emphasizing that anyone she sends to Hell stays there for eternity.

Yeah, Enma Ai's Hell seems to be closer to the Judeo-Christian version of Hell and probably the Shinto version as well. I was just making a distinction between those visions of Hell and the "Hell" that comes up in Buddhist and Hindu thought, since you asked about that and because they're fundamentally different from most common conceptions of Hell.

she or a later character will die an early death afterwards.

That would be yet another good twist.

This week, Hajime gets a clue while a man from the past gets the hint.

I saw the word "tap". Does that help?

Any excuse to go to a porn shop, huh? Next time, don't mention it in front of your kid.

Sorry, the man's socially inept. You want anything, talk to the bird.

"Purgatory Girl"? Not as catchy.

"Mr. Go To Hell"? Tee hee.

Hi, guys new to the forum.

You know I'm surprise this series doesn't get a bigger talkback, especially from the earlier eps because I find those to be hilarious!

The ways the people get send to hell is kinda funny because if you think back most of them(in the beginning) was kinda harmless. I mean a vet being sent to hell because he was on the phone and the dog dies on his watch?! C'mon he was a jerk and he was certainly right about pet owners dressing their animals in ridiculous clothes, but to go to hell???
Or a schoolgirl being a victim of gossip and then having her picture and everyone believing this "shy" girl is a slut? LOL

I'm loving this series, but on a different level. However it does seem some of the later eps have gotten dark but I'll keep watching.

Merry Xmas.

Revenge is meaningless, but hey, this show is nothing without it.

Old people's lives at stake? Now there's a question of morality.

Watch Seinfeld much, Saki? Caring about the little things and neglecting the bigger things.

The mayor, was he really guilty? A question that will remain unanswered...

I'm starting to find some of these wishers to be even more disgusting than the ones before. In this case, it seemed possible to me that someone else killed Saki's father (maybe the mayor's son, judging from his attitude), while in earlier episodes the villains bragged about their evil deeds and their victims were pushed past the breaking point. If I had to rank some of the people sent to hell, I would feel more pity for the mayor and the last two "villains" more than the others.

That circus was just like a U.S. circus. It'd be easy to forget that the series is set in Japan.

The anime's cheating: Knife throwing routines are always done using fake knives that spring out of the target. Just like teleporting magic tricks always use twins.

"Get me out of here, I'm trapped!" When Hone started screaming from the box, my thought was, "Gee, don't ever mess with Tsugumi, eh?" :)

Perhaps Hajime would have some success if he wasn't so inept. I couldn't believe how idiotic he came off when he first met Yuki.

I found this episode especially dissatifying. Yuki the evil twin is only a kid; I didn't think she fully grasped the consequences of her actions enough to deserve Hell. Hmm, then again, Yumi probably didn't realize what she was doing when she damned Yuki either. What I don't get is why Yumi stays with that ringmaster, and no one seems to mind. He was beating her with a whip, for crying out loud. It's that adult that belongs behind bars, and then Hell.

Here's the behind the scenes:

Ai: Do I have to say this crap again?

Director: Sorry, Ai, but our writers just love it a lot.

Ai: But what if it's boring?

Director: So what? The whole series involve people seeking revenge and ask you to send those mean people to hell.

Ai: At least they're exiting, unlike my repetitive speeches.

Director: You want to be rich?

Ai: (sighs) Okay, okay, just stop bringing that subject, now leave me alone, I gotta watch some Doctor Who.

No, I don't watch Doctor Who, I just think it's pretty hilarious.

I did like the drunken woman who let us know that she was drunk by holding her can, BEER.:D

And I agree that neither twin fully grasp what they started with Ai. When Yumi grows up and realize that she actually sent her sis to hell over that fat bastared I wouldn't be surprise if suicide is in her future.

Though a dark ep, it did have moments of funny. I couldn't understand why Tsugumi was staring at the box. And then asking Hajime to look at it, only to have them both leave and the box start moving with that lady inside.:anime:

Spooky fog advisory in effect for the next thirty minutes.

Tsugumi will be in SERIOUS NEED of psychological counseling when this is all over.

Okay, fine, but if you see a tidal wave of blood coming out of the elevators, don't come crying to me.

Come play with us, Tsugumi...

I don't think that type of injection's recommended by the AMA.

Ah, Miss Enma. Fashionably late, I see.

An empty sanatorium, all neatly decorated...no hedge maze. We're safe.

Someone's been leaking info to the enemy.

Sorry. We've had so many requests lately that we've had to turn down jobs. We're just so busy these days.

Why does Nina refer to herself in the third person?

Stay right here with me...forever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever...

REDRUM...REDRUM...REDRUM...

"What the hell's going on?"
EXAC--oh wait, this isn't her. Never mind.

Talk about abandonment issues.

I don't care if you can't take revenge for her! SEND HER TO HELL ALREADY!

That's the second biggest dollhouse I've ever seen.

Some fathers are just bastards.

I'd issue a recall on that toy. It's more dangerous than Cabbage Patch Kids Snacktime Kid.

Oh well. At least nobody got sent to hell, so...that's good.

She must have the Jimmy/George syndrome.

Hey, I was right. Nina's getting upset!

So Hell Girl doesnt' help ghosts/imaginary friends.

Again, just like Lil Slugger.

Reminds me a little of Petite Cossette too.

Next week: Ugh, I wouldn't want to visit that woman all the time either.

God, I didn't like the Circus episode, it just didn't work for me. It was just...ugh.

But I can comment on the other episode. (I just like your style of posting, Kitchensyngk, which inspired me this)

Tsugumi's right Hajime, there could something like...a serial killer! (Sorry, I saw My Bloody Valentine last night)

Hajime, Tsugumi, how come you both didn't say the word "haunted" when you saw the building? Look at the windows!

A detective's gotta do what a detective's gotta do?

Oh, sorry Nina, I was expecting you to say desu.

Ah, a discussion on a small table, a pastime in anime.

Look, a nurse. Let's follow her!

Ooh, a scientist...okay, there's nothing else interesting here.

OMG, SHE'S GONNA RIP HER ARM OFF-oh wait, nevermind.

Um, can you make rain too, Nina? In here? It hasn't rained in a while here...

How come when Nina and Ai were talking, it reminded me of a scene in Crank? Except, there's no gangs with guns, no gruesome violence, no Jason Stratham and no reporter being all disturbed and traumitized at the end?

Also, what I just said, did it make sense?

You're overreacting, Tsugumi. You're overreacting too, Nina.

Vine faces? That's all?

Honne Onna is helping Hajime? The fact that she pushed him 2 episodes ago makes this fact more funnier than I thought.

Already? Well that was--oh crap. Tsugumi now faints.

Moku's (yes, I know his name is Ichimoku, but this is an easier name for me, thanks to the circus episode) like Spiderman with that rescue.

Okay, Nina being in the glass of your car is scary.

Ai to the rescue! That doesn't sound right.

"The real Nina died."
CALLED IT. :p

To make this more dramatic, here's rain!

Wait. They're going back inside?! Have they learned nothing?!

Tsugumi really needs a doll after all this--oh, come on! Not fair!

Ai looks like she has the "sigh" face.

Eight shows left after this week.

This week, it's Dennis the Menace, only backwards...and with a predominantly female cast.

Now you'll be late for school AND you've got soup on your face.

Back in the revenge game after last week's mindfrag.

Remember when I said I would kill your dogs last? ...I lied.

Did she retire or was she just sacked?

And of course, the old standby, the Hell Girl site.

Think about it. She SEES this things, how hard do you think it is on her?

This seems to borrow from episodes 1, 4, 5, 6 and 12, some more than others.

Business is unusually slow.

"'I can end this anytime I want.' That's all she ever says."

Oh. Violence now?

Hey Ai, you think you could shorten that speech? We've practically memorized it.

Oh great. MORE dead animals.
I bet she killed the puppies, too.

HERE LIES THE LAST TWO DOGS THAT POOPED IN MY YARD.

Why do people hate each other, Daddy?

Call animal control while you're at it.

You see what I did to those dogs?! I'll do it to you too!

Don't pull the string. She'll rot in jail, but she'll live.

Dang. Anything in this episode she DIDN'T kill?

HELL. NEXT EXIT.

So much for the euthanasia freelancer.

Wahh! Stop making us look down a little girl's shirt! We know that tattoo's there!

Dang, that's gotta be the most painful episode I've seen since episode four. No wait, five. Hang on, six. Seven. Nine. Fourteen. Sixteen...

Another dog dies? Forget Hell Girl, try burying him in the Pet Semetary!

Speaking of Stephen King, that woman looks like Kathy Bates' character from Misery.

Send her to Hell now, do it! Save the doggie!

Scratch that, save the doggie and the puppies!

Too late for the doggie. :( You can still save the puppies though...for a price.

Call her now! Call her now! Call her now! Call her now! Call her now! Call her now! Call her now! Call her now! Call her now! Call her now! Call her now! Call her now! Call her n--oh, guess you don't have to now...

...because it's too late.:crying:

Detour sign, nice touch.

She ain't nuthin' but a DOG!

This time it was definitely for nothing. Like Kitschensyngk said about ep 7: "you snooze you lose" (though it has a different meaning here).

I never thought of Hell Girl as a violent anime, really, but after hearing about all this, heh.

Once again, I'll have to wait until I'm with my dad, again, it's a bit painful, but it's worth it.

Your funny comentaries inspired me to do my own funny commentaries, as you've noticed, Kitschensyngk.

I also wonder, has the dub had any cheesy moments, other than the swear-fest of "Cracked Mask" (episode 7)?

And now we come to the part of the thread where I use quips I either didn't use last Tuesday or have come up with since then.

May I say in all honesty that I was particularly hesitant to watch the encore this week.

Yuki. Pinky. Cute names for victims.

Jeez, Auntie. Paranoid much?

Like a twisted version of Daffy Duck from Ali Baba Bunny.
IT'S MINE YOU UNDERSTAND! ALL MINE! DOWN DOWN DOWN! GO GO GO! MINE MINE MINE!

"Gawd I hate people sometimes."
Nuff said.

SHE'S ON THE HIIIIIIIIGHWAY TO HELL...

No female dogs were harmed during the taping of this episode. Except for the old woman. She got what she deserved.

I only recently got into Hell Girl through the dub and keep meaning to check it out on IFC and then forget. But this week was probably a good week to miss anyway, since this episode was really hard for me to watch the first time. I'm a dog person and that woman... ugh. She deserved what she got for sure. I could barely handle the first dead dog episode and this one really compounds the damage ><

That being said, everyone knows I need a fangirl obsession for every series, so for Hell Girl I ended up lovingHajime!

Surprised it wasn't Ichimoku? Me too ;) But the John Burgmeier voice doesn't hurt Hajime's case >.> Plus, despite his tabloid-y ways, he really is the voice of reason through the season and I respect that about him. He's not my normal type, but ah well, variety is the spice of life.

Hello and welcome to this week's Hell Girl.

Before we begin, we've been receiving some nasty emails from PETA regarding the wanton animal cruelty in last week's episode, and since most of them hint at legal repercussions we have chosen to tone down the animal violence for this week and all future episodes. The management appreciates your cooperation.

From dolls to dogs to dolls again. Weird.

For a moment there that looked like Hell Girl's face in the pond.

Like the old woman from those Johan and Peewit segments from The Smurfs:
"A PROPER PRINCESS SHOULD BE BLAH BLAH BLAH..."

She sets body image standards as ridiculously high as Barbie!

Knowing cartoon diets, it'll be a lettuce leaf and a baby radish.

"I want a doll whose soul has drowned in sorrow."
It seems you've succeeded beyond your wildest dreams.

*buzzer sounds, lights flash*
WE'VE GOT HELL GIRL SIGN!!

And guess who comes a-callin'.

Got myself a crying, talking, sleeping, walking, living doll...
Points to anyone who gets this reference. I had to stretch a bit for this one.

Can't you and the groom just elope?

...I see damned people.

There's another fire on the other side of this emergency exit.

Oh dear. She's resorted to footbinding.

Aaaaaaaaand it talks. The doll starts talking.

Almost like that one episode of Witch Hunter Robin.

O pitiful shadow lost in the darkness...

Looks like this doll's collector's value had plummeted.

  Well that was wasted effort.

Is there an echo in here (delayed for a week)?

The mother starving her daughter reminds me of Speed Grapher. I wonder which one I'll hate more in the end?

Gee, why didn't I see this coming?

Tommyknockers!

The doll collector has been collected...

Wow, what irony. Nothing has changed, just like the last episode...

I can't protest so much since it looks to be temporary. I'd be more upset at how they rescheduled Witchblade if I didn't get the box set last week.

Trivia note: The character of Inori is Caitlin Glass' first role in the series since the potty-mouthed stuck-up actress back in episode seven. Sounds as though she's calmed down a bit since then.

Saw the episodes during the weekend with my dad, unfortunatly, I don't rememeber a lot, so I think I'll comment on them kinda randomly, heh.

Bound Girl:

A woman who kills dogs, jeez, they really want the TV-14 bug off of them...

Green vomit...technically she didn't kill it, but in this series, it's either way, right?

I feel like howling now... :(

Okay, so since when Tsugumi can imitate 2 people? I thought she could only imitate Ai. What is this, Xavier: Renegade Angel?

Life.. (Life...life...)

Is Tsugumi breaking the fourth wall? Looks like it. ;)

"God, I hate people sometimes."
I think by "people", he means the mean people in this show, except replace "sometimes" with "all the time", so don't overreact...people.

Pinky's a mother, yay! :)

Pinky's dead, WHY?!

THIS IS THE LCPD! Wait, this isn't Liberty City...well, it feels like it.

She killed her own son, WTF.

Mission accomplished, gentlemen. ;)

WHAT THE HELL?! That's right, Miki, PULL THE DAMN STRING!

I almost had Spirited Away visions, after watching that baby.

I REALLY don't like bittersweet endings here. Well, hope it doesn't happen next time.

I think this episode will make people...go emo.

Bride Doll:

Tell me why, or why not... (Higurashi, first ending song, reference)

She doesn't like being lazy? Wow, she must be a trooper.

How can she gain weight? She doesn't look like she gained any.

That old lady has watched The Punisher a bit too many times...

Once again, how can she gain wieght? PLOT DEVICE.

Uh...she has a laptop? ANOTHER PLOT DEVICE. :p

Tsugumi also sees self-aware chicken McNuggets. :p

Tsugumi's breaking the fourth wall again! She's like a Tiny Toons Adventures character now!

"What do you know, I'm just a kid."
And I'm a teen, so now we're even. ;)

Hey lady, if you like saying the word "doll", then you should try listening to the Pussycat Dolls.

Okay, just stop saying "doll".

STOP IT...

Okay, if I hear her say the word doll again...

GRR...

Ooh, cool, she touces the possessed dolls, and she slowly turns into one! Cool. :)

WHOA! I don't know what Ai said there, but I think I found the best line in the entire series! Do any of you know what she said? Please?

"No, you just have to sit still, just like a doll."
GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!! WHY DID YOU HAVE TO RUIN IT?!

I need a gun. To shoot him. In the head. NOW. :raven:

Wow, so some prick shows up and begins to kick Hell Girl buttm but only he didn't? Also, why didn't HG vanished when she realized it was a trapped? I have to say it was rather too easy this time to lured HG out. Although, you would have to find an idiot willingly to make a pact with HG in order for this particular plan to work.:D

Another question is why were the dolls speaking so secretive in and around HG house? Its as if the old dude don't trust HG "grandma" or is too afraid to piss it off. Maybe a little of both?

This ep has me intrigued as hell about HG. She took a beating in this ep and yet she gets back up, recites her death oath, and doesn't missed a beat as if she a robot or something. She acts likes she under some kind of spell which makes her not questioned anything. Strange, very strange.

Pay no attention to the eye on your closet door.

HEY HELL GIRL! I'M CALLING YOU OUT!

Does Ai take requests?

"By the time I'm done with you you'll be nothing but a Wikipedia footnote."
That line came out of nowhere.

Does Watanabe have public anymore after that stunt?

Not safe leaving those tools sharp ends up.

Drinking does not solve you problems...and neither does revenge for that matter.

And another dog di--oh wait, no he doesn't.

But the dad does.:(

Don't waste your breathe, Hajime. She's gonna do it anyway, I know it.

Now he's taking away the weapon, but that won't change the attacker's heart.

So he can change back.

Watch your mouth, young girl!

That kid again...

She just needed an extra push...

She's ... not pulling the thread?!

They would've gotten away with it if it weren't for that meddling reporter!

And he just had to show up...

Still not going through with it?!

Well, I wasn't expected this kind of ending. The preview said "Your grievance shall be avenged," nothing cryptic like episode 7's "Hmm." Still wish that guy got his, maybe attacked by the farming tools or bad crops or something. But then, there's still another chance...

1. So I don't get why Hajime never suggested that the girl seek social services or something. I mean wasn't she too young to be living on her own?

2. And what about the guy coming over and befriending her father, only to be a wolf in sheep clothing? I admit I didn't see that coming.

3. And how the hell did her father die was it from alcohol poisoning? Why did they make it seem her father was missing at first? And why, if after the funeral was she allowed to stay on her own?

4. Shouldn't Hajime be lockup for showing his kid his pimp hand?

I admit this ep wasn't good and left me more confuse.

We start with an "I can quit any time" joke, surprised Hajime isn't the one saying it.

In this episode, Hajime and Tsugumi go to where no man and girl has gone before...no, not a Star Trek convention...

A FARM.

A DEAD FARM.

Sheesh, Moku, thought you get used to it, by now.

Hard to believe Yuuko's there, but...well...I got nothing else to say.

He keeps trusting him, because he's too nice, like Goku. He gives enemies chances. Although, he doesn't look too much of an enemy...so far...

Maybe you should whipping those plants, kinda like that BK Spicy Whopper commercial...

Oh God, a dog? Knowing this show's record... (sigh)

Oh, it lives, nice.

Unfortunatly, her dad died. This feels like an evil plan, definatly, somehow.

And now...the results of American Idol--wait, wrong show. Will Yuuko pull the string?

Ooh, nice interception from Hajime! HE. COULD. GO. ALL. THE. WAY? (NFL reference)

Wanyuudou gets hosed. :p

Yes, Ai, say something we all should already know.

"That bastard deserves to go to Hell!"
Point goes to Tsugumi.

Point goes to Hajime.

It's a real intense match, folks!

The boy again? Too soon.

I wanna help finding her, too...

Let's just settle for a tie.

She's officially not gonna pull it! What events will happen when she doesn't actually pull it?

Wanyuudou gets hosed. AGAIN. :p

Heh, Hell won't like this, I mean, Hajime completely owned them in this episode. :p

It's you. What the hell do you want?

Why did Hajime suddenly turn into a Good Cop?

Lent has begun, but IFC's not giving up revenge just yet...

They go together 'cause opposite's attract.

He's married to the story first and his wife second.

If I'd known having psychic episodes could get you a dessert like that, I would've faked one every single day.

Would you rather get there safely or quickly?

Whoa, talk about getting involved in your own work.

Well, it's not like money grows on trees.

Looks like Hajime sent her to hell(?) his own way...

Money for nothing, Hell for free!

Take it from Hajime, he knows from personal experience.

Next week: a good girl being sent to hell? That'll be quite a turn-around for Tsugumi's way of thinking.

(recorded on Thursday night 2/26, during the forum’s downtime)

This week, apparently the writers ran out of ideas before the grand finale and reused the wife-cheating-on-her-husband idea from episode six.

Sentaro…

I think you-know-who’s been in her brain again.

She still peeved at you about that thing at the farm?

How many of us have looked at a Japanese paper wall and had an itching to poke holes in it?

Aww. College sweethearts.
Or not.
Okay, now they are.

Tsugumi has her eyes.

Hey, it’s that guy what got sent to Hell for telling lies back in episode eleven!

Sorry. She gets like this every time someone’s about to be sent to Hell.

“Center Buil”?

Fly Eye on the wall.

Hajime really should have kept his business life and private life separate.

I couldn’t read that note, but I bet he was supposed to be home at 7.

Daddy was replaced…by the very man he was spying on.

Missed it by that much.

Err…dude…this seemed more like it was your fault.

Haven’t seen a freakout in so long. I kinda miss it.

Take this five yen to pay the ferryman for your journey on the river Styx.

In the words of a certain no-armed whitey…oh cwap.

And now back to the freakout.

All this money and nowhere to spend it.

Heh heh. Now she’s got money to burn. :P

Looks like she just cashed out.

Oh, “FLOCK”. I thought she said something else.

HG’s been looking kinda melancholy as of late.

Next week…whose grievance shall be avenged?

My Tivo guide has the wrong description; I think it's for a Witchblade episode.

Sending a nurse to hell? Why couldn't they just sue for malpractice or something?

Hello Nurse indeed!:D

That's a little too sweet. She must have secrets.

She'll help anyone if they're not lovesick.

Well they're obsessed.

Not my business, but should you really be smoking?

Hello Nurse again! Even if she is a minion of hell...

Ai's questioning her job...

And where was that ladybug hiding exactly...?

Jinkies! A possible culprit!

That's it, blame the nurse you drunk bastard.

FLCL background?

It's not him? Then who...?

They don't like it either?

That just isn't fair at all.:crying: :crying: :crying: She was a sweet girl; no evil for her to preach about.

An unknown random avenger, which makes him even more evil. I'm glad he's dead now.

Whose side are you on now, Tsugumi?

Senturo...?

Ooh, more backstory next week.

3 episodes remain...

I just finished watching the entire first season and I really enjoyed it. The last episode was not as good as I wanted it to be but I still liked it a lot.

I hadn't posted on the thread since the last replies didn't let me know exactly were you guys were and I didn't want to read spoilers or accidentally spoil something.

Anyways I really loved this series so far, I don't know why anyone wouldn't like it or why its not a lot more popular. I'll be starting on Season 2 tomorrow.

The nurse episode is one of my least favorites, if for a different reason than the dead animal ones. The latter get me because I'm a dog lover. The former gets me because, while a good episode, it's absolutely tragic that things turn out like that. There's no reason this innocent, wonderful person has to be sent to hell... and yet, it does. The other grievances in previous episodes are understandable - some more than others, but there is still a degree of evil in the people that were being dealt with - but this incident completely throws it out the window. But I also think it's very effective for that exact reason, both for the audience and for the characters, Tsugumi in particular.

Yay for the backstory episodes coming up.

Due to technical difficulties involving a glitch in my cable reception leaving Tuesday night's IFC programming strangely without sound, with the exception of film trailers and most of their promos, my commentary on this week's Hell Girl episode, "The Light of the Hospital Ward", has been postponed until the replay on Friday night.

Sound's back up, so let's do this thing.

This week: Doctor, doctor, give me the news, I've got a bad case of damning you.

Tsugumi seaside / Airplane passes overhead / Hallucination.

Vengeance to God alone belongs,
But when I think of all my wrongs,
My blood is liquid flame!

"Hello nurse."

Here she comes, just a riding down the street, singing doo-wah-diddy-diddy-dum-diddy-do.

Who's checking out who here?

Now there are some guys who'd LOVE to play doctor with her.

Oh, Tsugumi. Dear little cynical, impressionable Tsugumi.

Now be nice to the damned soul.

What about it, Ai? Any clues?

Better pray he doesn't die, come back from the dead and go all Dr. Phibes on you.
(Points to whoever gets that reference.)

Aha. Lead.

Might I be seeing a change of Tsugumi's heart?

He still has a VCR? How old is this guy?

Oh dear. The nurse checked out early.

It's always so nice to know that somewhere out there in this great big world, someone doesn't like you.

Hajime? Remember when I said you would owe Tsugumi five trips to an amusement park when this was over? Better throw in another two for good measure.

Guess he didn't want to wait to fulfill his side of the deal.

Oh, and starting next week we get some backstory, don't we?

This is gonna take a while, but here I go:

Rain Of Remorse (ep. 22)

She's not listening! She's not listening!

This is all soury now, but it should be all sweetness again, right?

Ew, oh wait, she's just poking holes, but Ai didn't need to...never mind.

If this was an abridged series, the guy with the weird eyes would've been mentioned. :p

How back-and-forth is this?

Tsugumi...if you can hear me...I would like that ice cream...What?

Sure, call him, if you just wanna argue with him again.

No kidding, Tsugumi, that was long.

Her grandparents don't know her power? Uh...don't know if that's good or bad...

"Center Buil"? Seriously? That's lazy, Studio DEEN.

Mirai makes a glorified cameo! :)

Hey, Kitchensyngk, you're also a fan of Xavier: Renegade Angel, right? Well, here comes Hajime, and...

"Take that!" "Taste the pain!" Yeah, best running gag ever. :D

Wait, what did Hajime say? How can it be ironic if that doesn't make sense?

I like Yen jokes. ;)

So he did for every men who slept with her and men who would be sleeping soon, while she would treat them like dirt. Nice one.

"It's impossible."
It was raining, how can she not wreck the car?

"Who could've done this?"
"It was Hajime."
You make it seem like Hajime killed her, Tsugumi, don't mistake us.

The Light of the Hospital Ward (ep. 23)

Is Tsugumi having an extreme vision?

Typical arguing battle.

She's gonna be sent to hell?

You're joking, you're joking
I can't believe my eyes
You're joking me, you gotta be
This can't be the right girl!

Insert Mission: Impossible theme...sort of.

Uh, I wasn't looking at your belly. Nope...

"Haven't you heard a damn word I said?"
Hey, we just got in the discussion!

A-game, Hajime, remember that.

Tsugumi changed her hair for no reason... Yeah, that was meant to be random.

In case you're wondering, my mom works as a nurse at a local hospital here(actually, it's pretty famous here, so not so local), seeing how everyone is nice here, I compare there to this hospital. :)

Ah, this episode feels nice, but when will the dramaticness settle in?

Even Ai knows this isn't right. This feels like something out of the Metal Gear games.

Uh, that ladybug...why was is it under her skirt...? :ack:

You're just gonna let him call you a smart ass, Tsugumi?

It wasn't her fault, you idiot jerk.

"He lost his wife, which is very sad."
Obvious thing to say is obvious.

You are such a stupid [rest of this sentence deleted]

This is like a Metal Gear game! Wacky visions and all that crap.

Well, damn it.

Hone, Moku, if you both have a bad feeling about this, then why the hell are you two smiling?!

Thanks, Wanyuudou, you actually know what you say and look, at least.

Ai, you disappoint me yet again.

I HATE IT when people do bad stuff for no reason, it's like God's way of saying, "Do anything you want, no matter how BS-ness it is."

Did Hajime kill him?

"Or maybe he just wanted to hurt someone."
He just hurted many people who are watching this.

"Still think sending somone to hell is he right thing to do?"
This was just BS, okay?!

What just happened? All of a sudden Tsugumi's in a parallel universe?

Ai was expecting Stephen Hawking to be there, but there was a malfunction, so that's why Tsugumi's there instead. Did I just answer my own question?

Three episodes left, and let's review what we've seen so far:
Aya Kuroda – sent to Hell for blackmail, public humiliation and defamation of character.
Koichiro Kisaragi – sent to Hell for forcing his unwanted attention on a teenage girl, including stalking, invasion of privacy and kidnapping.
Mamoru Hanagasa – sent to Hell for repeatedly assaulting his teammates, as well as involuntary manslaughter and falsely accusing the deceased’s best friend.
Yoshiyuki Honjo – sent to Hell for indifference to a death caused by professional negligence.
Riho Kaifu – sent to Hell for making a killing in big business—several, in fact, both figuratively and literally.
Namiko Todaka – sent to Hell for cheating on her husband and using her prestige to humiliate and silence an accidental witness.
Ayaka Kurenai – sent to Hell for sabotaging a fellow actress’s audition to score a part in a theater troupe and win the favor of her mother…who she initially planned to send to Hell for being a taskmaster and a “fxxxing hag”.
Goro Ishizu – sent to Hell for dropping his girlfriend off a balcony and for being a bastard.
Shinya Morizaki – sent to Hell for stealing a dessert recipe and ruining the careers of a former unrequited love and her sister.
Shiori Akasaka – accidentally sent to Hell after her forgotten best friend changed her mind.
Yoshiki Fukasawa – sent to Hell because he asked so nicely.
Fukumoto – sent to Hell for sending his friend to Hell fifty years ago for seeing his wife behind his back.
Mayor Ryouzo Kusunoki – sent to Hell for his son having the father of a young girl killed to cover up local government mob ties.
Fujie Minato – sent to Hell for killing her sister and attempting to kill her niece and her boyfriend to stop them from leaving home.
Yuki – sent to Hell for sponging off her twin sister’s natural talent.
Nina’s father – sent to Hell for…oh, wait. He was already dead. Never mind, skip this one.
Meiko Shimono – sent to Hell for killing a young girl’s two dogs and a litter of newborn puppies, among others, out of greed and paranoia.
Kyougetsu Inori – sent to Hell for denying her daughter-in-law her personal freedoms and independence.
Gilles de L’Enfer – sent BACK to Hell for public humiliation and manipulation of a rival TV psychic.
Ryosuke Sekine – NOT sent to Hell after ruining his neighbors’ crops and driving the father to death by alcohol poisoning.
Noriko Hayashi – sent to Hell for cheating on her husband.
Kanako Sakuragi – sent to Hell for no discernable reason.

And now, on with the backstory!

Don't go to the Hell Correspondence! They're too young! Haven't we seen enough already!?

Still in shock from last episode.

So that's it. It's over. Now, about those five trips to a theme park...
Oh, Hawaii. Just as good.

Curiously enough, the only thing that ran through Hajime's mind as she fell was Oh no, not again.

After nineteen successful cases, Hell Girl needs a vacation too.

I just can't stand backseat drivers.

Sounds like a sweet hotel. They've even got snow on command.

Can you feel it calling in the air tonight?

I smell a trap.

Shibata soungs almost like "stigmata"? What?

Seven is the universal lucky number. Just not around these parts.

Ooooh. Flashback?

Shibata candy shop?

Not the face! Noit the face!

It appears they've fallen through a hole in the time-space continuum now.

Don't blame them. You're the one putting the pictures in the kid's head.

I didn't know Ai could do the "pissed off" look.

And next week on Hell Girl..."Hell Girl"!

UPDATE:
Ohhhh, a guy named Shibata built the temple where the girls were sacrified! I get it. Zoned out for a bit there.

Forgot to record it last Tuesday night. I hate this schedule change, and thus I begin worry about anime's future on IFC as well. But for now, let's see what backstory we learn from this episode...

She's...singing now?

And now some more kids are considering Hell Girl for stupid reasons.

Find out what she wants? Reminds me of The Ring, or perhaps Japan's own Ringu.

*As Doug McKenzie* Hey look out the window. Snow.

Stir what anything, exactly?

Should you even be in hot springs when it's cold out? Won't the water freeze after you step out?

Is that a raspberry Ai's eating? Cause she certainly deserves one for what she did last week.

Sacrificing children? The back-plot thickens...

Face to face...

She's even scarier when she's mad!

Internal politics among the supposed antagonists, that sort of thing never ends well.

Nex week: looks like another mysanthropic speech about how humanity gravitates toward darkness. And it's got the same title as the series itself.

And then there were two...

I was able to get to my dad's house to see it, since I left school early.

I knew Brina Palencia (who voices Ai) could sing, but in character? Awesome. :D

Oh come on, she's alive, you teasers.

That guy shall now be known as Sorry Guy!

"What if I died?"
The world would collapse upon itself. :ack:

Hawaii? Sounds sorta random.

Yeah, uh, she's walking slowly...

Saw that coming. ;)

Ai, you're not alone. Today was boring for me, too.

Intense moment!

Uh, was that supposed to be an awkward comment?

Naked Tsugumi? Why?

Okay, that's it, if I see another naked girl now, I'll close my eyes, even though Ai isn't totally naked.

That candy looks a bit unhealthy, I mean, it's black.

And here...we...go.

Well, this certainly explains everything...or does it?

How does that raspberry keep dripping? How much juice was there?

A budding kid? Moku, what was that about?

Wanyuudou knows everything. ;)

Uh, was Ai smiling for a bit?

Wait, now they're saying Senturou killed Ai? What?

So, what would a mad Ai Enma look like?

Well, she would kick your butt.

Looks like Ai was so mad, she even forgot her own servants.

It would've been better if this episode had no ending, to make it even more intense.

I have no sympathy for Tsugumi. She was out of her mind to think the Hell Girl operation was a good thing. It's presumptuous to think you can damn someone to Hell, not to mention a needless huge sacrifice on your own part.

Hmm, I thought Ai could reject requests, like she did with that corporate lady. But last week's ep plus this scene with the broken toy indicated that she couldn't.

Tsugumi looks pretty good for someone hit by a truck. Then again, you should see the truck. :)

How come Ai always wears a robe when she soaks?

Seven-year-old fanservice. O.K........

I guess today's ep will give us all the information behind Ai's origin. I wasn't even sure if Ai was the sacrifice, and I wondered why it was Sentoru's job to bury her.

Previously on Hell Girl... (never thought I'd say that)

"Killing them means going to Hell forever!"
Plus, we'd be out of work!!!

Oh well. See you in Hell, Ai. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Five will get you ten they survived that.

Oh, HE'S Sentaro.

Either you're with us or you're with the terrorists Ai.

This begs the question: Were there really mountain spirits that needed the sacrifice? We know that Hell exists, and that souls exist. So the existence of Mountain Spirits that badly affect the harvest would not be beyond this show's reality. They could really have been retaliating for the cheat. But they never explicitly manifested themselves. And it's curious that they still let the village survive for six years.

So, Ai hid away for six years. That's why she looks 13 as Hell Girl. Hmm, and that pulp artist kept going on about how "beautiful" that 13-year-old was.

Ai sure has a nice left glute...:D It's like Ai and Tsugumi are in some competition over who looks best in the nude.

So this is just one big misunderstanding? Sentoro was obviously forced to bury Ai, but Ai thinks he's betrayed her? Will she ever learn the truth?

I guess Ai made some deal with Hell to come back. I can't say I felt bad for the village, though they didn't show any actual villagers burning to death.

Now's the time for Sentoro to take that long vacation.

ALMOST forgot to do my comment on the episode, sheesh, I was a bit slow yesterday.

But first, a recap!

So...they're gonna do something or what?!

Moku looked like he was totally not yelling, he still had his hands on his pockets...you can't yell when you do that, it's sorta strange.

FLAAAAAAAAAAAAAASHBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK...

It's Protective Man!

Wow, he puched him that easily?

Oneof the guys looked like if his parents were a circle and a oval. :ack:

Blah, blah, blah, yackity smackity.

"Let's teach him a lesson."
Boring line...(falls asleep)

They painted his cheek pink! That is harsh!

"Those guys are idiots."
And they smell, too! :D

Wow, that smile looks weird with his cheek painted pink. :p

"Find a replacement."
You know, I find this line strange becasue, other than Ai, THERE ARE NO OTHER FREAKIN' GIRLS IN THAT LITTLE VILLAGE!

Annoying bell noises are annoying.

Gah! Now it's in slow-mo!

Oh my God, that baby crying sounds so freakin' fake! Was that actually in the original version, too?!

More awesome singing. Just the way I like it. :D

I was hoping they would have an embracing moment, sorta like Tidus and Yuna when they kissed the first time.

"Why can't the two of us move out and live together?"
"Hmm?"
"Oh, nothing."
DAMN IT! I wish she heard that!

Oh hey guys, hunting a bear or something? Oh, wait...crap. :ack:

Shut up, shut up, THIS IS MY STORE! No, wait, wrong line...

Uh, Ai? You screamed a bit too late.

Wow, they seriously have nothing to do.

Was that a hammer?

And...Sentaro's head explodes, the end.

Kidding. :p

But if I was him, my head would actually explode. And if that doesn't happen, I would be buried along with Ai.

That's just another way of Ai saying "Damn you all. damn you all to hell". ;)

And he leaves, as a protest. Can something happen in the next minute, please?

Ai is now The Comedian from Watchmen. That sounded even more awesome than I thought.

Whoa, Sentaro, check your head, or better yet, check your arm, neck and leg.

"I don't understand what Sentaro did. I don't understand."
"I understand."
Wow, the writers were clearly lazy as hell here. It makes it sound like if Sentaro did soemthing bad while he did nothing like that in the first place.

"The decision rests upon you...Tsugumi."
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?!? Wait, wait, huh?! Let me rewind the preview for a bit...

Heck, I was able to diiscover the summary for the next episode, too, and I already know what's gonna happen...

FWIW, I lean towards "no," since the show has no problems showing us things explicitly that exist in the supernatural world, but that's just me. I don't believe you get a definitive answer to your question, though.

The question is whether it really matters much in the end if there were or weren't real mountain spirits. They were certainly a convenient excuse for the villagers to do what they wanted anyway, but as you'll see (unless the final episode has already aired), what they wanted or didn't want or were appeased/not appeased by (assuming they existed in the first place) really didn't really affect things too much in the end.

"It's not my fault." Where have I heard that before...?

No website this time?

Hajime descended from those paranoid p****s?

Don't listen to her, Tsugumi.

I wouldn't use the Lord's name in vain at this time.

Revenge ... defeated by forgiveness. :)

What did she burn the temple for? Maybe the answer's in the next season?

So, when this show first started, I enjoyed watching the sinners getting their comeuppance; but lately, I'm not so sure even they deserve that treatment. Still, it is indeed hard to forgive them and other people for the things they do.

And of course, they gotta stick in one more dead animal before ending it. Sick b******s.

Next season: well, I don't know what's gonna happen. In fact, I wonder if IFC will even bother getting the rights to the other seasons considering the late night scheduling for these last episodes, among certain other problems? *cough*economy*cough* Either way, this season was quite a ride.

(Apologies for the delay - forgot to set my DVR on Tuesday.)

Figures KU would play during the Hell Girl season finale...same as the Automat when it first started out.

That's right. SEASON finale. Not SERIES. They've made two more since.

Hell Girl's the boss, as everyone knows, but what Spidey says always goes.

THAT'S Satan? All you'd need is a shoe and you could defeat all the evil in the world forever.

The shrine was right next to the train station the whole time?

Yay! It's storytime with Ai Enma!

Tsugumi with a doll. Hell is indeed a-poppin'.

Don't pull the string! Children ought not to be punished for crimes committed by their parents!

You've made some powerful enemies, sir.

Why don't you stand next to her ear and whisper DO IT...DO IT...DO IT...DO IT...DO IT...DO IT...

I see you!

Oh hasn't the poor girl been through enough already?!

"Pull the thread...kill your father...damn him to hell...you know you want to...it is there for you to pull...come on, pull it...

DAMMIT GIVE ME THAT DOLL! DO I HAVE TO DO EVERYTHING FOR YOU!?!"

Ai's standing in the background whispering yes, yes, pull it pull it pull it...

"Nope. Sorry. Too little. Too late. too bad. Tsugumi, do the honors."

Awwww...

Hell Girl weeps.

Err, you know there was someone in there, right?

Well. Final score: Hell Girl 23, Shibatas 2.

I was kind of expecting a flashier ending.

Aww great, MORE dead animals?!

I'm in the business of revenge...and business is good.

"Lord, what fools these mortals be..."
See you next season!

It's not up to IFC. FUNimation only licensed the first season, so IFC wouldn't be able to air the next season right now, even if they wanted to. FUNimation would need to acquire the other seasons first.

I don't care if I'm being spoiled, I want answers to these questions:

Was Hajime sended to Hell?

What happened to Tsugumi?

No.

What happened to Tsugumi? She forgave Hajime, they both hugged and everything's all happily ever after.

Yay! :D

Wow, I was worried it was gonna have a bittersweet ending, like almost every episode.

Now...I wait until I see it.

The 1st series is over and Hajime won't go to hell by his daughter. I thought he was but glad he didn't.

So, what's next for IFC anime? They have Witchblade running now but I'm done watching that series since last year.

I might try Witchblade, if IFC have the guts to keep airing the series.

I just hope there's no fan-service scenes involving Rihoko.

Seeing Tsugumi and Ai naked is bad enough.

Nothing. IFC is done with anime. They haven't announced any more anime pick-ups, so once the current run for Witchblade is over, that'll be it.

I watched the finale again on my Tivo, and I noticed in the final roll of the people who used Hell Girl throughout the series, they didn't show the guy who sent Hell Boy to hell. He would've appeared between the bride doll and the guy whose wife was cheating on him. I wonder why he didn't?

Just finished the second season. Fans of the first I highly recommend it.

However just like the finale of the first season the actual finale is awesome all the way up until the ending which leaves you unsatisfied.

Will start up the third season next week. Awesome anime so far, it really deserves more people checking it out. Amazing soundtracks as well.

I forgot to comment on the season finale until now. How evil am I?

GAH! Who's the spider?! How long has he been hiding in this series?!

Ai, just tell me who that spider is, are you expecting that we know him?

Uh...is Wanyuudou saying that Ai is drunk? Then, she's drunk on RAGE!

Insert Powerpuff Girls related joke here.

STOP MAKING IT SEEM THAT SENTAROU DID SOMETHING BAD!

Without A Trace... really, that's the best I could come up.

(as Ai) You must send Hajime to hell.
(as Tsugumi) Are you acting like the same guy who sended that nurse a few episodes ago, who got sended for no reason?
(as Ai) ...Yes.

Heh, I like how Ai is hiding the fact that Tsugumi's mother CHEATED Hajime. :p

It's like Dynasty Warriors now, everyone's good and everyone's bad!

Aperantly, Ai's grandmother only talks to Ai. What? I find that kinda strange. It's called a "fact".

So...anyone find it strange that Tsugumi made it into her home alone?

If Ai kept telling me to send a person to hell, I'd actually be annoyed.

When is God gonna wake up? How many times has His name been said so far?

Oh God, not dead-eyed Tsugumi again.

Obvious good timing to interrupt.

Now what, Hajime? Are you gonna say it's not your fault again?

"It's not fair, it should've been me."
Okay, I kinda wasn't expecting him to say that, kinda.

How desperate is Ai, anyways? Was her favourite show on or something?

Reminds me of me and my dad, except, I'm a boy, and my mom's still alive, but it's close.

Back to the shrine again? It better be important.

It's a season finale, so something's gotta explode, right?

Oh yeah, someone was in there, but who cares, he was a minor character.

After the fade-out, Hajime and Tsugumi whistle, making it seem that they totally didn't do that. :p

The wheather continues to be really starnge in this series.

(sigh) More dead animals...

So...I don't see a laptop or something, so how the hell did she call Ai outside?!

They weren't fools...well, most of them anyways. Okay, the majority of them, happy?

How so?
I mean I know the villagers didn't get their justice But, I thought the finale was awesome.
