I was watching 0083 and noticed something fairly interesting... When the Zeon officers were talking on the sub, there was a flag flying in the background. If you're into WWII, you should have recognized it as one of several variations of the Nazi flag. The only difference was that it had no swastika. I believe it was an eagle or somthing in the center of it.

Also, if you look at Unit 2 carefully, its face sort of resembles that of the Statue of Liberty.

Yeah, I've always had a theory that Zeon and the Federation are just thinly veiled metaphors for the AXIS powers and the Allies, respectively.

Yea these are the nice little things about war packed into Gundam. Though the flag on the Zeon sub is Zeon's flag and IS shown in the intro, they look exactly the same.

It is known that the Gundam series deal with the aspect of war and its injustice and loss. And these little jabs snuck into the series are further reminders of this.

That's the same basic design! It was flying at an angle though so you couldn't really tell what the insignia in the center was. That flag doesn't look exactly like it but yea, it's pretty much the same. Just a little less black on it. The one in 0083 looked a lot like one of the Nazi military flags. More so than what's in that picture.
