When I was a kid He-Man was one of if not the most popular cartoon. I watched it weekly, had the action figures, tons of merchendise and watched reruns long after it's production. Why did it only last 2 years if it was so popular??

They can celled it in order to start doing She-Ra.

By the end of it's second season, He-Man had 130 episodes under his belt, not to mention all of his She-Ra appearances. The producers probably felt that there were more enough Masters of the Universe episodes to survive in syndication without the addition of any of new adventures.

It's all about profit. Why keep making He-Man episodes if you have more than enough to sell for syndication? You spend as little money as you can to try and make the most profit. He-Man had already peaked during the She-Ra years, so beyond that there wasn't much point in spending more. They'd already made more than they'd expected to...

Keep in mind seasons were larger than too. Nowadays two years worth of episodes would be 52 max, more likely to be between 26 and 39.

Not to mention there's only so many times you can recycle the animation to make a *new* episode (which Filmation was notorious for). There's only so many times you can take seeing the same run/walk cycle.
