The season three of Total Drama Island is starting production. Oh and it's a musical :ack:

That's cool.
Yet odd.
So will this be a part of Total Drama Action?

Is this the first animated program to receive a third season before the second season has even aired on television? Regardless, I HATE musicals, especially animated musicals. As I much as I love “Total Drama Island”, and will likely love “Total Drama Action”, I will not watch this.

Agreed. Harold singing? Oh wait he beatboxes...

It wouldn't be so odd for Trent...

I guess it will be some kind of High School Musical / American Idol parody...

That idea sounds pretty dreadful, but I think they can pull it off.

It does seem odd to have this planned so early, but Season 1 is great. I see no reason to believe Season 3 will be a letdown, and I think saying that it's going to be awful from this little bit of information alone is a tad premature. I mean, unless you hate Season 1 as well.

I actually like musicals and when cartoon characters sing.
I think it'll be allright.

I hate High School Musical but i did enjoyed Gym Partner Musical because it makes fun of musicals, and Total Drama Island is now CN best show and being PG i would watch it:anime:

Nah, I've seen other shows have third season orders during the season one-season two break.

I don't mind musicals I wish that most of Disney's theatrical movies were still musicals, but I don't like it when people make something into a musical to copy someone else in the hope that it'll make it better. In layman's terms, some things are good as musicals, but NOT everything.

I'm not a huge fan of TDI, so this doesn't affect me, but most of you guys like TDI and HATE musicals. So I was thinking that some of you would be blinded by your like for TDI that you'd brush off the fact that it's a musical and how some of you (not all) bash any musical coming 'round the corner. But I'm happily surprised that you guys aren't biased about this kind of stuff and that you won't watch the musical no matter how much you like the original series.

I hate reality shows and love TDI. if this show can make the reality show concept fun to me I think they can do the same with musicals.

The idea of Heather or Owen breaking into song sounds like an interesting idea.

This does sound odd, but I'll probably check it out when it does come out. I still seriously dislike reality shows, yet I enjoy watching TDI. So maybe that would turn out the same for this season.

Part of me is completely angered that The Spectacular Spider-Man, a completely better show than Total Drama Island, is still having problems having a third season greenlighted, while this show is not even done airing the first season (at least in the US) and it's already planning the third season.

The other part of me, however, is thrilled and amused at the potential for this. I deeply enjoy tongue-in-cheek, humorous musicals, and since this show made me tolerate the fact that it was a faux reality show, I'm really looking forward to this.

Does this, by any chance, have anything to do with the rumored Total Drama Idol TV movie?

If it going to be a musical, I better see it as a parody of things like American Idol, and America Got Talent, and all it foreign equivalents. I enjoy the musicals from time to time, but depends if the actor/actress can sing. Let just hope they can sing.

Total Drama, the Musical takes 15 lucky contestants all over the globe to compete in outrageous and embarrassing challenges and break into spontaneous musical numbers in each episode. Favourite contestants from previous seasons will return for this globetrotting challenge which is sure to contain alliances, backstabbing and more than a few tender moments in true Total Drama style.

So it really is a musical... I really don't want to see Harold or Owen singing...

Hmm... from that bit:

A) This season apparently would involve seeing Our Heroes traveling around the world... which in itself might be hilarious...

B) Yeah, sounds like a musical in the classic sense (characters breaking out into song), not a parody of "American Idol"/"Canadian Idol" (and its ilk). Too bad... though I'd assume Total Drama Action will probably cover the "singing" aspects of stardom (given its setup)...

...It was the smiley, I swear. -> -> :) Okay, I usually hate musicals/singing, especially badly done ones in animation (that one Mighty B! episode was like nails on a chalkboard to my ears  ). But Total Drama Island is a show that I actually like quite a bit. So I'll at least give it a two-episode chance.

No offense or anything, but isn't that a slight hypocritical? Had this not been Total Drama Island but it contained virtually the same dialogue but with different names, would you have watched it?? To me, I sometimes like musicals, especially theatrical movies with musical numbers, I just don't like it when they're over done with like a bazillion songs with like, 2 non-song sentences in between. On top of that, I don't really like Total Drama Island, so I stand outside of the bubble that most of you guys, who like TDI, are in. So I kinda find it weird when someone says they hate all musicals but are biased when a musical appears in a show they like and don't judge the show. I'm not necessarily talking to you in particular, just anyone who has said or plans on saying that they don't like musicals yet are still going to praise this.

So I kinda find it weird when someone says they hate all musicals but are biased when a musical appears in a show they like and don't judge the show.I can’t speak for him, but I’m an equal opportunity critic. I have always disliked musicals and have even criticized my favorite animated programs for making use of musical numbers in various episodes. Now, there are exceptions to this; if it’s just one song, for example, I can usually hold my tongue and still enjoy the episode. However, more often than not, I put the TV on mute when characters break into song. Maybe I’m being insecure when I let trivial things such as that bother me, but I’ve been that way my whole life.

Granted, there are rare situations where a song is actually appropriate and doesn’t bother me, such as the end of the “Chowder” episode entitled “Mung On The Rocks”. That was a musical scene that I really enjoyed because it was handled with finesse.

Still, as I’ve said, I won’t be watching this series. There will likely be numerous songs per episode, which is just too much for me.

CN already shows Live Action, why not compound this with a musical? They're only doing it to try and match Disney. No question. With Toonami on the rocks and Adult Swim barely afloat,it looks like they might try anything.

You need to keep in mind that this is Teletoon's idea first, not CN's.

Yes, I would have watched the show if it had virtually all the same things, but with different names. I'm not going to watch this because it's TDI. I'm going to watch this because I like to give all shows a chance before smashing them with a hammer.

Well, when it came to The Mighty B!, when a certain song in that show came up in an early episode, I must say I completely hated it. The song was horrible and I wish it would just end. I tried to watch the episode, but in the end I just had to change the channel. I still watch the show, but I always try to avoid that episode. And I never said I would praise this third season, I just said I'd watch a bit, to see if I'd like it or not.

To quote Gwen, "That's just...wow."

I like musicals that are done right. Somebody earlier mentioned Chowder, and I think that's a good example. Some other shows I feel hit the nail on the head were Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain (for obvious reasons) and Disney movies.

Sponebob Singalongs need to end. They're horribe. I can barely sit through that Atlantis episode.

Remeber that old childrens show "Arthur"? They had an episode that featured music videos using the charachters. I'd say that lands somewhere in the middle in terms of quality.

I will check this season out, if only for the world tour. Hopefully if the music is good, it'll be a worthy season.

In short, I can stand musicals if the songs are well written, composed ingeniously, and the singing is tolerable.

An example of the direct opposite of this (for those interested) would be that Mr.Krabs "Talking to Money song." Everything a good musical is this isn't. But I digress.

If Total Drama, The Musical, can do this, it forever be cemented (in my mind) as a great cartoon series.

P.S. My condolences for "The Spectacular Spider-Man." I like that show a lot.

Yea, the Spongebob Atlantis movie was an example of how some people think making something a musical would make it better. They hyped that up with an all day marathon and it was prooooobably one of the worst things CN has ever aired. It's also an example of how terrible Spongebob is now and how they should've never made the crew changes that they did.

While I agree that Spectacular Spider-Man really deserves a third season, at the same time, CN needs TDI to continue to hold it's own against Nick and Disney. The show's been in the children's top ten highest rated cable programs for the past few weeks, a feat a CN program hasn't been able to do since Ben 10: Alien Force's premiere.
