*snrk* Yaffa.. my sis and I were just joking about that..
Alright now..
Yu Yu Hakusho - More and more I feel like I'm watching something that was good, but was turned into Dragonball. I have some friends who are full of complaints, like the voices, translation, and such (to quote him, "This show was dubbed to hell, and please, any human with any of the 5 senses, please refrain from watching this digust." He told me to quote him).. me, it's not keeping my attention very well, so I can only complain about voices. I'm still really not liking the voices.. they just sound so.. so.... like Dragonball voices. I'm still listening and saying 'That character sounds like Gohan!' and 'Oh, she sounds just like Bulma!' and such.
I think I'll only be watching for Hiei and Kurama 'cos.. well.. they're cute, and that's really all there is worth watching, in my opinion, with a dub like this.
Cowboy Bebop - Ahh, the episode even my grandfather enjoyed. The ending always makes me cry, that song is so beautiful.. it makes me long for more episodes..
Pilot Candidate - Too much screen-warping brightness, and I still can't listen to Zero without getting Digimon flashbacks every 2 seconds. I'd rather watch this subtitled.

FUNimation could've at least cropped Yusuke groping Keiko's breasts instead of cutting it entirely. It sort of screws up the scene.
Like when Jim looked at his hand full of NON-blood in Outlaw Star.

Realtime review
Yu Yu Hakusho: It won't be just me in thinking how much Yu Yu Hakusho is like Dragonball Z just because of the King Yamma scene and the quest to get your body back after dying that aired today. I don't really know how long this series is but I sure hope that that the rest of the series doesn't just go by the plot given by the second episode.
Pilot Candidate: It's Eva I say. I think it was a slow second episode but maybe I just have a short attention span.
Gundam 0083: Plenty of action as always in a Gundam series. Nicely written script by the writers but very predictable combat tactics though. Great background music themes. They let Unit 2 get away!?!

The only show I'm going to watch and have watched tonight is Yu Yu Hakusho... And, well... I loved it. Although it wasn't as good as last week's, so I give it an A-. It's a really sweet show.
Pros:
- Good lord, Botan is a hottie. I hope she stays a major character.
- The best parts are when Yusuke interacts with the mortal characters like Kayko (Keiko?). I hope this stays a major part of the show
Cons:
- Hm... Can't really think of any... Although Yusuke's mom is... Strange. She needs help.
- It wouldn't have hurt if they kept in some of the censored bits. Come on... It's ADULT swim for crying out loud.
I'll post this review on the episode guide when Matt gets it up... *snicker*

Yuyu: It was good, but it was kinda weird. I don't know why many ppl have a beef with the dubbing, I mean as long as it's not like Pilot Candidate, I'm cool with it. I give it a B+ since it wasn't as good as last week.
Cowboy Bebop: What can I say. Probly the best action + dramatic episode is the RFB part 2. Very emotional. A+
Pilot Candidate: Alright, this show is gettin freaky as sh*t. I mean, what or who is he talking to in the Goddess? Shes talking about becoming "One".WTH?!?! And that instructor guy looks like a major TOOL with that toothpick. Also, the way the Goddesses took out that monster instantaniously makes them have too much power. Finally, how does that nerdy kid know what Zero is like and how he acts if he only knew him for like a half a day? Lousy Tai from Digimon makes Zero sound so stupid. D- (This show has to go)
Gundam: Actually turned out to be cooler than I thought it would be. I liked the action scenes, but the "what the heck was that" sounds repetitive. B- (getting better)
OS:Since this is my first time seeing this series, I am excited. I don't care about the edits since it's been on Toonami. The action was great but there weren't enough scenes of it. The story is progressing very well. I give it a B+ (Still not up to par on action scenes as the other shows)
Tenchi:I'm already a huge fan and have seen many of the real episodes, as well as both movies. The Toonami edit is OK, but it kinda brings down some scenes. I give it a B- (The editing cuts too much out)

Damn. I had not seen the last episode of Bebop. Of course, I already knew in part what happened (thanks a lot for not using the "spoiler" thing everyone), so I was extremely...well, dissapointed. Sorry everybody, though it was all very beautiful, I felt kinda gipped... like, is that it? Y'know? I'm really wondering about Faye and Jet.... it seems like at the very least you could have ended the series on a more bittersweet note. Instead of flat-out sad. Could've had them do...I don't know... something poingnant. When the whole thing ended, I felt like there was no real closure. It needed an extra five minutes. And the last message sucked. It SHOULD have been "See you Space Cowboy." But no....sorry, I'm ranting here.

YYH: I'm liking this show, voice, cuts and all(Except for Chris Sabat's Kuribara[sp?]. I CANNOT stand this guy.). Personally I find it an improvement from DB and am interested to see what will develop when the rest of the main cast appears.

Yu Yu : wow , its pretty OK , it wuz the 1st time i had ever seen it , so i ddint know what ot xpect. is Botan THE grim reaper? or is she LIKE the Grim Reaper. cuz that would be freaky lol. ya shes pretty cute i hope she stays a main char. ya they coulda kept some edited out parts in , but wuddya gonna do. it still was pretty good i thought, ill keep watching it. B+
Bebop: being that i havnt seen any of the series i avioded watching the end. i watched the end of Trigun on tape instead. very nice, i might add, great music. in trigun that is. A+
Pilot Candidate: GAY! i dont knwo what , but i jsut dont like it . the animation is coo, ubt , like some other d00ds says , it reminds me of digimon too much. the robots look like RAcaseals from the great DreamCast RPG Phantasy Star Online. anybody else notice that? I jsut dont like the plot / uderstand it. im gonna stay away form this C-
Gundam 0083: didnt watch it yet. hope its cool
watched, and amazed. i LOVED IT! the animation for the gundams is soo COOL! i love the saber light , how it lags behind the saber, its sooooo cool!!!!! great show , wanan see it again! A+!

Yu-Yu Hakusho: Yep, This show reminds me ALOT of DBZ. It's plot's a little bland, but I'll continue watching, mainly because theres nothing better on. B
Pilot Canadate: Man, this episode was extremly boring. I like that one canadite though, the badass kid with grey hair. (Did anyone else notice that the nerdy canadate pushed up his glasses with his middle finger about 5 times? Seems saying the word "die" is worst then flipping the bird). C
Gundam 0083: First off, I love the intro to this show. Second, This episode was much better then the first, maybe because I knew what was going on. Anyhow, it's fairly interesting, but I've never really followed the Gundam Saga's. B+

YYH:Great! Loved it, but not as much as the first episode.
CB:Closure if a seiries has to end, is always the best choice. That's all I have to say.
PC:Loved it! So deep and thought provoking while still involving lots of cool other stuff. What can I say?

YYH: OK. Atleast now I have a better understanding of the story. You can bet DBZ fanboys are gonig to be after this episode cause of hte mention of King Yama. God if they'd just read up on japanese culture instead of pretending.
CB: I cried hte first time I saw it and I cried again.
PC: I have of agree. Boring. Too drawn out seemed like it was over in 5 minute (I think cause all the major story elements in 1 30 minute episode total this in this particular anime)

Not as good as last week's, but still entertaining. I can't remember anything memorable, but what i do know is that they did a VERY BAD EDIT! "Hey, Keiko, nice uniform"?! WTF? It's ADULT Swim, not Toonami! Crop it, say "nice ass" or something worthy of the TV-Pg rating. God! Why the hell am I complaining? I didn't really like the scene much anyway. :p A-
Pilot Candidate
SNOOZE FEST! I don't even know what was going on! But I will continue to watch, to see what the deal is with that cute grey-haired boy. ^_^ And Zero-with-the-voice-of-Tai is beginning to annoy me. D
Gundam 0083
I already saw this uncut and I don't feel like seeing it's cut up TV-Y7 version tonight. I'm sleepy. B+ (uncut version)
BTW, anyone notice that the guy who does the voice of Keith in 0083 does the voice of that kid with glasses on Pilot Candidate. And they're the exact same characters! Keith is like a grown-up version of that kid. Same glasses and same hair, too! Is that kid's name....Keith?

All there man. It's like pointing a shotgun to the back of someone, laughing like a psycho and saying "I'm going to get you now" or "Prepare to be destroyed".

I enjoyed all of them so far and I still enjoy Pilot Candidate as much as I did last week, but one thing form 0083 overshadowed the whole night. I hope you caught this.
"Right in the middle of battle you start giving a speech?"
"You better learn to see the whole picture!"
". . .uhh Yes, sir!"
"I'm the enemy, you idiot!!"

yusuke as kuwabara says nice uniform to coincide with what he said in the first episode, so if he says nice ass or something, then they have to change the one in the first episode as well. anyway, i think the next few episodes of YYH get a little boring, well i was bored while reading the manga anyway, and that whole arc of yusuke doing stuff to open the golden egg i thought was boring. well i dont know how close the anime is to the manga though.
pilot candidate episode 2 (01) is quite boring, the next few episodes are quite good i think
gundam 0083 ive seen and i didnt bother to watch

Yu Yu Hakusho - This episode was alright, but I have a bad feeling that its gonna turn into one of those 'monster of the week' shows where there's practically no main storyline and its just Yusuke battling various monsters and doing various quests each week. I sure hope I'm wrong. And yes, I like Botan a lot too :P
Grade: B-
Cowboy Bebop - The best anime ending ever. Nuff said.
Grade: A++++++
Pilot Candidate - This episode tried to be more serious and plot filled than the first. It failed miserably. Any attempt to be serious is totally undermined by the goofy animation, goofy dub, and unlikeable characters. And from the preview for next week, it looks like things are gonna get even worse...
Grade: F
Gundam 0083 - Another pretty good episode, although this one was more action filled and had less plot than the first. Pretty good actionwise though, and the dub seems like it'll be another gem from Animaze. Clearly the standout of the 3 new series.
Grade: B+
Outlaw Star - One of the earlier episodes, when the series was at its best. Tight, interesting storyline with a good amount of character development dealing with Gene's dad and his experiences with space. Hilda ownz me. :P
Grade: A
Tenchi Muyo - An alright ep that spends most of the time dedicated to introducing Ayeka and Sasami. Tenchi's introduction eps aren't as good as the other eps in the series; it'll still be a few weeks before the show really hits its stride.
Grade: B+
Overall a pretty good night although Pilot Candidate was a crap fest for the second week in a row. I don't know how much more I can take of it....

Here is my nice little review for this weeks fun that is Adult Swim Action.
Yu-Yu Hakusho: Koenma Appears
Well this episdoe of Yu-Yu was a nice funny episode with a nice action packed bit of fun. My main problem with the episode is certain cuts that Funi made on it. Mainly saying darn in place of damn when less then a minute ago they said damn! Funi is nice and weird like that with the word "dead" for Dragonball Z *hears hisses and boos from the rest of the board*. Well back to the episode and no more whining about it. This episode featured Yusuke arriving in the spirit world to meet the son of King Yama who looks more like a baby then a prince. Though he is given the chance to come back to life... as long as his body remians intact. This brings Yusuke back to Earth try and contact someone to keep his body there. This episode had action, comdey and everything we could use. Hopefully Funi's boast didn't have too many kids staying up too late to see this episode.
Score: 8 out of 10
Cowboy Bebop: The Real Folk Blues (Part 2)
This is the infamous last episode of the epic Cowboy Bebop. Truthfully, this episode needs no introdction. This is the episode in which everything comes to a head. In this episode we see Vicious take control of the syndicate and go after Spike and Julia. Meanwhile, Jet and Faye stay on the look out for Spike. I'm not going to spoil the ending for the 2.2% of people who haven't seen it yet. This is just a great episode which has EVERYTHING that is what is Adult Swim. This has a good story, good insight, and a hell of a lot of action! If you watch only one ASA show this week... I hope it was this one. "You're gonna carry that weight."
Score 10 out of 10
Pilot Candidate: In Tune
We now come back to Pilot Candidate with our young candidate, Zero, who is stuck in the cockpit of a goddess. We have our nice Digimon sounding characters just slowing the story down along with our toothpick smoking instructor(stupidist dubs ever). Meanwhile, we have Zero having some crazy dreams inside the goddess. About half way though we do see some action as the Victim start to show up. Though the action doesn't really happen since they just show the endless start up sequence of the goddesses and try and get Zero out. Let's hope that this has "Bebop syndrome" and only the first few episodes are just slow. While the animation makes up the slack(actually it reminds me a lot of Zoids), the story is slightly sub-par along with the reason for being on the Adult Swim block. This has once again been the disappointment of the night.
Score: 6 out of 10
Gundam 0083: Endless Pursuit
Coming in to this episode we have our Federal Forces valiently defending themselves from the Zeon attack. During the battle the Fedi Gundam pilot cracks under presure and ends up getting away. Therefore, we have a party go after the invading Zeon forces. This episode has been almost nothing but non stop action and actually moving the plot along. This was just a completly action packed episode and while had noticeable edits to the episode was still a spectacular episode and I hope that 0083 is a bit more action packed then 0080 was.
Rating: 9 out of 10
(While not supported by Adult Swim: The Fansite I still review Outlaw Star and Tenchi Muyo dispite their Toonami edits in place. I put them there because of my love for both shows dispite retaining Toonami edits and to add a sence of completeness on the schedule)
Outlaw Star: World of Desire
This episode of Outlaw Star left us on a cliffhanger putting our heros in a tight spot and the pirates on their tails. Here we are introduced the bio-android Melfina as the story takes a nice developing twist. Not the most action packed or plot developing episode of Outlaw Star but one of the better ones once compaired to some of the obvious filler episodes of Outlaw Star. Again... this episode doesn't belong on Adult Swim, it has stupid edits for this(except for the nudity edits of course).
Toonami Rating: 8 out of 10
Adult Swim Rating: 6 out of 10
Tenchi Muyo: Here Comes Ayeka
Like the first few episodes of Tenchi Muyo, we are introduced to a nice new character or two. This episode it is the crown princesses of Juri, Ayeka and Sasami. Here she captures Tenchi and Ryoko in search of Ryoko and Yosho, the crown prince of Juri. Later on the story unfolds on the disapperance of Yosho, the signifigance of Juri, and the introduction of Ayeka and Sasami. Again, a lot of inuendo cut from this episode which is unnessisary on this line up. Oh well.. I still like Tenchi dispite the fact it is misplaced in Adult Swim Action
Toonami Rating: 8 out of 10
Adult Swim Rating: 5 out of 10
Line up Rating(Average): 7
Another great night of Adult Swim goodness(minus the misplacements of "Toonami Swim" and Pilot Candidate). It is a great line up dispite minor mistakes and its potential can only get bigger from here.

From what I watched I definetly liked. The only show I didn't watch was Gundam..because I um hate Gundam. Anyway here's my review.
YuYu - This is still my favorite show on the block, I still say that if this going to be a block for Adults they should allow the scene where Yusko crops her chest..But I can let it go. It seems to me that most people who have seen the sub of just about any anime, get all anal when they see it dubbed. This show is really good and has been handled quite well, and it keeps me wanting more each week... Just forget what you've already seen and treat this as a new experience. Oh, um I liked this episode. It was great. Nice fight scenes, emotional and just great.
Grade: A
Cowboy Bebop - This is still my favorite episode. I love the way they wrap up the show. Every time I see it, I get compelled to have an imaginary final battle with my turn coat "rival" and then after it ends I utter those final words "Bang" with a smirk on my face.
Grade: A +
Pilot Candidate - MUCH better than last week, but huge parts of it confused me. I mean I could understand what the hell they were talking about half the time. It kept me awake and I didn't fall asleep this time, but this is still the oddest show on the block. It's so freaking Bright and I've always hated the Cel Animation Back Characters on CGI Back grounds and vise versa. This episode was good but not that good. It barely kept my attention.
Grade:C-
Outlaw Star - I liked this episode, but I LOVE the whole series, so I'm biased. No need to review this episode as I'm sure we've all seen it.
Grade:A
Tenchi Muyo! - I've seen this wpisodes tons of times , and I'm still not sick of seeing it. I love the way it ends with Ayeka falling on her face in the middle of complaing as usual.
Grade: A
Block as a whole: B Plus....
Tomorows going to rock. I've got to go buy a tape so I can have the "Special" in my collection indefinetly.

Yu Yu Hakusho: Very nice episode. Quite entertaining. However, it rubs off too much DBZ at once. Hope to see a few improvements here and there. B+

Still showing here. I'll keep you posted.

Yu Yu: Last week, I said it was ok but I looked forward to Episode 2. And after Episode 2, I have to say....I LOVED IT. I like when the guy took over the bully's body and talked to that girl (I'm bad with names). Next week's episode looks great with the Bully now saying the people "he beat up". Overall grade: A-
Bebop: I'll start watching it next week.
Pilot: Well, the dubbing was a little bit better but overall I just didn't like it. I have no problem with the animation;I was just lost in the story. The show is really missing something. But I will still watch since it's still early in the series. Grade: D
Gundam: I didn't pay attention to much of it so I can't really review it. I'll have to read a summary of what happened in the episode.
Outlaw Star: I liked the first episode more but this is by no means a bad show. Again, I missed parts so I'll have to read into more details of what happened. Overall grade of what I saw: B-
Tenchi: Again, I liked the first episode more. It wasn't as funny, but it got the job done. Since two new characters are introduced, it would be cool to see where this goes. OVerall grade: B+

Hmmm Funi is wierd...
They go over CN's S&P edit guideline with Dragonball, yet go below AS standards in YYH. TV-14 is the standard yet they strive for a TV-PG show. Funi needs to get it together for YYH. I am sure it was a good episode, but cuttin out groping is not a edit that should happen.

03-03-2002, 07:20 AM
Parent groups have been tolerable at this point, but how tolerant do you think they'd be about sexual situations between UNDERAGE MINORS? Not very tolerant at all.
The groping was the ONLY edit done, as far as I know.
Chris Sanders MSX
03-03-2002, 09:51 AM
It's an edit I can let go. The parent groups are uneducated when it comes to anime and they just think they show is DBZ, as they have a similar look. They have no idea how old the characters are and the huge disclaimers before every show indicating sexual situations and some of the material being for people 18 and over will quickly have there complaints subsided.
What are they going to say. My Child had no warning this type of thing would be on at 11:00 at night, despite the disclaimers before every show and the words ADULT Swim in the corner ?
The Networks have every advantage in this matter.

If the characters in Hakusho were above the age of 18, I would agree with you.
But they aren't. They're underage minors.
That changes everything. Parents would easily win a case if they saw that. Yes, it would be stupid, considering how much Boston Public gets away with, but it's just one of those things.
Sora Takenouchi

Doesn't Dawson's Creek have a ton of sexual situations between minors? I remember hearing that the first episode was about a 14-year-old boy having a sexual affair with his teacher.
If that is allowed to happen then what is so wrong with a 14-year-old acting a little perverted? I mean, those kind of guys exist in real-life after all.

I liked Yu Yu Hakusho. Episode 2 was just as good as last week's. However, Kuwabara's voice gets on my nerves. I'd prefer the voice that he had in the Central Park Media dub of YYH: Polergeist Report. Botan is hot! Her voice sounds too serious. Yusuke's voice is good, but I don't feel too comfortable with Funimation doing the dubbing. I'm glad they didn't edit out the scene with Yusuke's mom getting drunk at the wake. I'm kinda dissapointed that Kuwabara's grabbing of Keiko's breasts was edited out, but I did hear that CN wouldn't be too happy if the scene was left in. The dub ins't bad, but I would prefer Funimation replacing Kuwabara's voice actor. Overall, the show is good and I can't wait to buy the bilingual DVD when it is released.
Cowboy Bebop is the best anime ever made. Playing one episode a week is better than two, keeping it from becoming overplayed. I own all the DVDs, but I still like to watch it when it comes on TV.
Pilot Candidate is terrible. It looks like Gundam Wing meets Digimon. I just turn it off. Good thing it's just a placeholder for the timebeing.
Gundam 0083 is really good! The show is still enjoyable with the Toonami edits, but I get annoyed whenever someone says, "What the heck?".
Outlaw Star is just bad in its cut up Toonami version. I prefer the uncut DVDs. I did however watch the opening theme as it has never played on CN before last week.
Tenchi in its overplayed Toonami version. Yawn. Wake me up when CN plays the "real version".
Yu Yu Hakusho, Cowboy Bebop, and Gundam 0083 are my favorites on the block.

I totally agree with you there. It is pointless to go off on that subject, since it was merely a snipet. They still kept the general idea of the scene in, and that was what is important.

YYH: Overall, the episode was funny. However, the cut scene was badly done and seemed too adrupt.
CB: A very moving episode. The animation was very well done.
Pilot Candiate: This show is too slow. The majority of the episode focused on Zero being traped inside the Goddess and having a special connection w/ the Goddess, but we don't learn anything else besides these facts, which were already established in the 1st episode.
Outlaw Star: I've only seen 2 episodes so far and I'm still getting the mediocore feeling. This show has a lot of action, but it doesn't seem to have much else.
Tenchi: The episode was funny, but it lacks a plot. The whole entire episode was dedicated to introducing a new character.

Yu Yu Hakusho:
This anime looks very ordinary. The problem with showing really old anime (10 years is an eon in the anime world) is that it shows its age very visibly. While that's kind of cool in a retro kind of way for Gundam 0083, it doesn't work for this anime. It just looks old. It looks like it's going to travel down the same well-worn path that many other 100+ episode animes have traveled. It sure looks like one long story in a series of story arcs, climactically ending in the romantic moment promised in Episode 1. I've only seen the first two episodes of this anime, and it's not actually BAD, but why bother? Is there something different about this anime? It sure doesn't seem like it. I'm sure it's a great story and it's dramatic and all that, but be honest. This looks to me like a very, very typical anime. An anime that created the stereotypes. An anime that uses the same plot devices as every other. I'll keep watching, but it looks really plain to me.
Cowboy Bebop:
The best anime ever.
Pilot Candidate:
What a pile of crap this is. Not only does it derive from every mecha anime ever created, but there are many plot devices that are taken directly from Evangelion. I hate this show. It has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. It sucks so throughly, so completely, that it deserves to be studied. Its only redeeming quality is that I will only have to endure 13 episodes of this mess.
Gundam 0083:
I didn't expect to like this show, but I do. I watched Gundam Wing a couple of times and couldn't sit though it, but Gundam 0083 is allright. The show relies a lot on action/battle sequences and is very, very shonen in nature. This show appeals more to young (10-15) males than anything else, and I do like it in that immature, retro kind of way. I don't think for a second this is a mature show, but it reminds me of when I was young, so I like it.
Outlaw Star:
I've been meaning to watch this show, but I could never get around to it. It's not bad. It's clearly a newer anime (aired in Japan in 1999, a year after Bebop), and it's not bad. It seems less mature than Cowboy Bebop, but considerably more mature than Gundam or Pilot Candidate. I'm generally liking the show.
Tenchi Muyo:
Tenchi Muyo. The Budweiser of the anime world. It's hard to actively dislike this show, yet at the same time, it makes you painfully aware that you're watching an a show for teenage boys. It's just not that engaging. Yes, Ryoko is a hot piece of ass, but enough already. It's just not worth my time anymore.

Yu Yu Hakusho: Again, pretty good. Two complaints, though:
One: The whole "cop a feel" edit. I can understand this one, but I think it's still stupid.
Two: Koenma's voice was a little...odd. It's another case of having a voice actor do a role that he sounds too old for.
Cowboy Bebop: The best ending for any anime series. Ever. It's even better on DVD.
Pilot Candidate/Candidate for Goddess:
Again, Bad Dubbing+Bad Script+Bad CGI=Bad Show. It was a little more tolerable this time, i.e., the acting wasn't as hammy, the lines wern't as ridiculous, but the CGi is still horrible, if not worse than last episode. It's getting better, but it's not going too fast...
Gundam 0083: Huzzah! Another great episode. My only complaint is that the dubbing seems to have gone down a notch or two since the last episode. Otherwise, it's still my reason for watching ASA. I can't wait for the UNedited episodes to start.

Yu Yu Hakusho - This episode was alright, but I have a bad feeling that its gonna turn into one of those 'monster of the week' shows where there's practically no main storyline and its just Yusuke battling various monsters and doing various quests each week. I sure hope I'm wrong.
And as for Cowboy Bebop...my attitude towards the "best ending ever!" statements is similar to your "Stop saying Eva clone!" comments.
I mean...I liked CB's ending (they deserved that ending...forget the 'closure' crap, they got what they deserved...), but it isn't the be all and end all of anime endings. And it's only the best anime ever...aired on U.S. TV.
