View Full Version : Bandai Says CN Will Run Geass R2

You guys recall the recent posts in these forums about a 4chan piece that claimed inside information about why [AS] screwed over the anime? It had one checkable item in it, namely that [AS] was giving up the license to run Geass R2. Turns out that item was false, which means the rest of the 4chan information was probably BS as well.
I ran the Geass R2 tidbit by the folks at ICv2 as a possible news tip and this is what they replied:
"We checked with Bandai and they stated categorically that this rumor is untrue and that CN will run all of Code Geass Season 2."
Thought you'd like to know. (^_*)

It came from 4CHAN, so it was BS from the beginning.
Anyways, I don't even know why Bandai is even bothering to let CN run Geass R2. It'll just end up stuck at the 5AM death slot with absolutely no advertisement.

It'll still be on AS Video, at the very least.

Yeah, but it would have gotten a better time slot and more promo on Sci-Fi.

As long as I get to finish this series without a break, I don't care when it airs.

Yeah, CN has the rights, and even if Bandai could get it to Sci-Fi they probably don't want to hurt their relationship with CN. For whatever reason CN wants to keep it and run it at a ridiculous hour, so that's that.
Barring a better schedule change this isn't at all good or ideal for Code Geass, but that's the way it goes. I suppose any TV deal is better than none. Maybe it'll sneak onto weekdays at some point.

Well, frankly I don't know what to say about that.
If their plan was to ensure Gurren Lagann was more popular than Code Geass in the US they've suceeded admirably. It's that or BOA is working for Dominoes.
"Gotta be...gotta be...Dominoes!"
WS wants it because they don't want their shows undergoing a mass exodus and coming home to roost on Sci-fi. Bleach after ECW is still a WS nightmare scenario (especially if Sci-fi turns their failures into hits).

More Geass. :)
But a good chance that it'll stay in that 5 AM time slot. :(
Hmm. Well, at least something's getting aired.

5AM airing for R2... that's just not right. Adult Swim and CN need to get their anime act together. For it and Moribito's sake.

Hopefully, by then Adult Swim will undergo another schedule change and Code Geass (along with Moribito) will air in an earlier timeslot.

I'm starting to think the only thing that would get anime on AS out of it's rut would be for AS to air Shippudden. The thought of that makes me cringe but the series has always done well with the older crowd so basically pulling a Big O isn't out of the question now that Toonami is gone and CN has pratically burried Naruto.
Naruto Shippudden would do well with their cherrished 18+ male demographic at least better than the rest of the AS anime incuding Bleach. It would also feel nice paired with Moribito or Bleach.
I still don't like the idea but it could do well and besides that it sounds like something that stupid block would do to fix their problems.

If their plan was to ensure Gurren Lagann was more popular than Code Geass in the US they've suceeded admirably. Most admirably-not only is Code Geass not necessarily as popular, but not only does GL come on at a reasonable time, but to me, it's simply a better show. Had a little downs, but way more entertaining than Geass in the long run.
GL+NTHT(which ended yesterday, sadly.:crying: ) VS. CG+Bleach+Moribito?
GL+NTHT EPIC WIN.
the way to get Morbito and Code Geass back at midnight to 1am is to not watch, send emails, call them, write letters. It's basically the way the last run of anime got pushed late at night worked.
Good to see an anime bought and probably aired to the end

Oh god, Naruto Shippudden airing on AS would not feel right at all. Bleach and especially Death Note I could understand, but Naruto Shippuden? The problem with that, if they did it, is that Naruto has already been established as a popular show for kids here, so changing to an adult audience would be one of CN's stupidest moves. Even if CN wants to do it, I doubt Viz would. Big O was a different story because it did a lot better with adults to begin with, and not many kids I knew who watched Toonami watched Big O.
Anyway, airing the remainder of Season 1 and all of Season 2 at 5am would be such a sad fate for Code Geass, but at least it would finish.

Screw that. If Bandai wants their stuff to be shown they should do it and not be screwed over by a network that hates what they produce/dub.

If it gets through a complete run, I'll be happy.

I currently See the odds for shippoden like this: 1-5% Cartoon Network Acquires. 10-15% [as] Attemps to Acquire. 15-20% Sci-Fi bids up or tries to Aquire. 60% No one does anything with it.

Honestly I don't see Sci-Fi going after Naruto Shippudden. Waaaaaay too much of a commitment.
Honestly I don't see Sci-Fi going after Naruto Shippudden. Waaaaaay too much of a commitment.
It's less about making long term commitments and more about throwing anvils to competitors who are drowning. The idea is to A. make it less profitable for a competitor to do x, or B. prevent competitor from doing x entirely.
Besides I would expect them to do the same as [as] and purchase in 26/52 episode blocks.
Not to mention it's been firmly entrenched as a kids show. I don't see Viz even allowing it to move to a late-nite block. They're probably feeling sellers remorse over Bleach since there aren't enough creepy perverts around to make selling Orihime figures profitable.

Naruto's not really a hot topic with kids now and the manga sells great with the older crowd as does the uncut DVDs.
If CN felt Naruto had potential with kids still they'd be airing it on weekdays.
So Adult Swim getting Shippudden doesn't seem out of the question despite Naruto's history as a kids show in the US.

Methinks that's why Gundam 00 will be on Sci Fi channel in addition to Gurren Lagann after it's done. Don't know if it's "hate" but this mismanagement is painfully obvious at this point.

It has been for months now; unless CN feels like giving Bandai one helluva deal to encourage them to break with Sci-fi.

Maybe SciFi would stop getting anime if [AS] promoted it more, or at all. And got it out of 5:30.
Not to much to ask really.

You'd think it wouldn't be, but apparently they think Tim & Eric and 12 oz. Mouse can pull in better ratings *scoff*

They don't have to purchase all of the episodes at once, you know.
Yeah, but Viz would want it aired in a primetime spot. Sci-Fi is taking the anime thing slowly, waddling into the pool. OK, let's get some stuff here, now let's add a few shows that everyone's been dying to see...
I think the approach is good for business (better to not oversaturate the schedule in my opinion) but it raises doubts about Shippuden and its like airing.

...anyhow, is Naruto NOT a kids show? Or is 12-14 not considered kids? I never saw it much so maybe I am wrong.

uhh... why? what's the point of even running if it's just gonna go in the 5 am death slot? talk about a complete waste of effort. give it to someone else.

It is a show/manga like Bleach that many teens and adults read/watch and buy. AFAIK Shippoden with it's older cast and so forth skews higher.

Viz Media should create and launch itself a 24-hour channel. Wouldn't that be great?

I haven't seen much of it, but by these standards, I don't think that Now and Then, Here and There qualifies for Ani-Monday either.

True, of course isn't ECW only there because they don't have anywhere else to put it?

To be technical, Fantasy is actually a subset of Science Fiction, which is why they are always grouped together.
To be more precise, Sci-Fi has always aired pure fantasy movies and shows. It has even produced pure fantasy movies and shows.

Aren't Gundam and Gurren Lagan kids shows?

There's fish people, venus fly trap people, spider people, and dinosaur people. I think those qualify as monsters. Besides, I think using chakra to create clones and fire and stuff could qualify as sci-fi.

N&T,H&T's setting takes place in another dimension, hence, the Stargate setting is met. It just happens to have twisted war crimes. O_o
Also, Naruto can qualify as sci-fi. It's made magic a science. It's science fantasy.
