Merlin

Has anybody from the U.K catch BBC1 new fantasy show Merlin. It a thirteen part series follwing the adventures of young Merlin which started 7.30pm. I thought the first episode was pretty decent and a new introduction to the characters. Antoney Head is a good choice to play Pendragon. Also John Hurt was the voice of the great dragon the last of the dragons. I also thought the actors chosen to play the young Merlin and Aruther were well chosen to. I definely be going to give this series a try.

It reminded me of the early episodes of Robin Hood, in that it there are two paths it can go down: it can find its feet and develop into something really quite entertaining, or it can blow its good ideas in the first few episodes and end up unwatchably dull by its second season.

Robin Hood ended up unwatchably dull by its second season, and quite frankly I have a feeling Merlin will end up the same way. Here's hoping it won't, but... well... the first episode didn't fill me with optimism.

This series is supposed to be coming to NBC in the second half of the TV season (Sunday nights after football is over). I'm waiting for some video footage and NBC images because just reading the concept, it sounds like something I want to check out.
