View Full Version : NFL 08 "Week 2" Talkback

The big story of week one was of course the season-ending injury to New England quarterback Tom Brady. That changes the story of this week which would likely have been the match-up between Brady's Patriots and the Brett Favre-led New York Jets. Now back-up Matt Cassel will be the QB and many are wondering if this could be an opportunity for the Jets. In the NFC, two rather surprising winners from last week will face off when the Bears visit the Panthers. The night games will feature division rivals with the AFC North's Pittsburgh and Cleveland meeting Sunday Night and the Eagles and the Giants of the NFC East on Monday Night Football.

The Ravens and Texans have been given the week off after Hurricane Ike damaged Reliant Stadium (the game had originally had been rescheduled for Monday), the two teams will now play Nov. 9. This change also affects the Bengals' schedule. For a complete breakdown of the changes to the schedule, check out NFL.com (http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d80ac4273&template=without-video&confirm=true)

We're just an hour into Week 2, and Aaron Rodgers is already having a breakout game. Green Bay's new QB already has 200+ yards and 3 TD's as the Pack are blasting the surely soon-to-be 0-2 Lions, 24-0 as halftime approaches.

Witness the fall of the Colts. Granted they have nobodies protecting Manning but if they were playing against a good team right now rather then the Vikings, the score would be 45-7. And depending on how the Pats look, we may see the downfall of the two best teams in the last 7 years.

UPDATE: Well, what looked to be an easy Green Bay romp has turned out to be VERY interesting as the Lions have just taken a 25-24 lead. Green Bay has the ball with 7:00 to go.

UPDATE 2: And just as I hit the send button, Rodgers connects to Craig Jennings to put the Pack within range of retaking the lead. Things are getting very spicy.

UPDATE 3: And, Brandon Beck gives the Pack a 9-point lead and all but seals the game.

UPDATE 4: And, Charles Woodson brings back a pick to put an end to Detroit's comeback hopes. 41-25 and now Packer Nation breathes a little easier.

UPDATE 5: Sorry for all these updates, but it's getting ugly now. Kalvin Johnson scores the 3rd INT for Green Bay in the quarter, and it's now 48-25, and now it's all over but the proverbial shouting.

I said it once, I said it twice and ill say it again, Tarvaris Jackson just isnt ready to be a NFL QB. 6 trips to the Redzone and no TDs? Either Childress benches Jackson, or I dont see him lasting the season.

The Patriots struggled to beat the Chiefs last week. The Chiefs got routed by the Raiders today. Things don't look good for the Pats this afternoon against the J-E-T-S!

i fully retract my comments in regards to jackson's performance in week one where i said he did an alright job compared to previous seasons. it's just so frustrating to be a fan of the vikings right now. a majority of us are calling for the resignation of childress, but apparently the higher ups still have faith

my dad's reaction to today's game - "we need a coach that has a bigger imagination than the size of a peanut. the plays are always predictable. watch i can predict their next play"

he then amazingly called out the vikings next five plays

i liked dan dierdorf's comment the vikings' end game drive, too. "i mean, i knew that was going to be a rollout, so..."

I knew it was a great idea to pick up Rodgers and trade away Farve in my Fantasy Football League, though I had him as my backup to Drew Brees this week

Do we have a TZ Fantasy Football League?

The way things started for the Vikings, I thought I might actually be able to make fun of some Colts fans tomorrow if I so desired, but it sure sure fell apart in the second half (not that it was all the way together in the first).

Every time I'm ready to be convinced that Jackson isn't so bad, the game doesn't go well. I haven't been convinced yet this year, but something needs to change. When things aren't working on offense you can't change everyone, you need to change the leader. Jackson can wear two chains if he's sitting on the bench.

Wow, the Chargers vs Broncos game is looking really entertaining. Apparently both teams just decided not to play defense and just let the offenses's play pitch and catch.

Draft

Of course LT and Gates aren't doing that, and I had to trade Hines Ward just to get Gates.

If I did my calculations right, i'm currently outscoring my opponent in Fantasy Football this week 57-13 so far. Though my opponent has 1 less player done for the day (and 2 of the posistions K and Def).

I have to say I love Calvin Johnson. 129 reccieving yards and 2 TDs should give me 24 points!

Broncos-Chargers was the definate game of the day. A controversial non-call allowed Denver to punch it in, but instead of kicking for OT, they elect to go for the win and convert for the 39-38 victory. Another tough loss for the SuperChargers, who have now lost their first two games in equally heartbreaking fashion.

Alright the Raiders win, too bad the Fins can't buy a win. Always good to see Rivers and LT lose, hopefully this is the start of the Chargers slipping back into mediocrity. Jets lose eh? Maybe last week was just a fluke, guess we'll just have to see.

Looks like Im somewhat right about the Chargers this year, though I dont know how to gauge a team when they lose two straigh games by a combined 3 points. Tough, and I guess all the talks about the Jets becoming the new beast of the AFC east was put to sleep real quick. Imagine if Brady had been playing? Giants roflstomped the poor Rams and the Skins shock the Saints. Good games for the most part, a lot of suprise 2-0 teams (and for that matter, some surprising 0-2 teams).

What a day of combacks.

First and formost, the Panthers coming back to stun the Bears. That was exiciting (especially becuase I'm a Packer fan).

A lot of close games as well. Colts just barely managened to egde out the Vikings. The Bills, the Redskins, and the 49ers all had close games as well.

As for the Packers, I didn't actually watch the game (beucase I'm in NW Indiana, and that's mostly the Bears market) but I was watching the game online, and I saw most of the highlights. Rodgers looked solid yet again! 3TDs, 328yds and still 0INTs in his first two starts. I thought the game was over after we jumped to a 21-0 lead, but the Lions fought back. When the score was 24-25, I think I droped the loudest f-bomb of my life. Then everything was good once Woodson intercepted Kitna. And then he did it again just for kicks. Next thing I knew, the Packers were back on top 48-25.

The Chargers got burned again. That's a rough way to start out the season.

Should be a good game. And Im not surprised Rodgers is doing good, I mean the man got to sit for four years and learn from the very best. So I wonder if people are starting to get the trend here, rather then throw your QB into the fire, have him learn. Worked well for Brady, Romo, Palmer pre-von Oelhoffen injury, Garrard and Rivers to name a few.

As for 2nights game, only saw bits and pieces of it but I noticed the score was 0-0 for a very long time? And the Steelers only managing a four point win seems somewhat alarming imo.

Teams hit pitfalls within seasons and sometimes a comeback like the one that occurred just after you posted can be an essential catalyst for regaining momentum. Confidence is a fragile thing.

Not disagreeing with you, just mentioning. And, likewise, the Patriots showed some fight. Just a couple of weeks in, and so much can happen, ala NYG '08.

Next week: 0-2 Jacksonville. 1-1 Indianapolis. Very telling early season match-up.

I hate, and I mean hate, how much Steve Young and Jaws (just to name a few on ESPN) poleride McNabb. I cant stand Jaws commenting when hes doing a Cowboys game, even worse when the Eagles are playing against the Cowboys. Its like I was hearing a radio somwhere in the southside of Philly.

Great game, and I think it showcases the shift in power from the AFC to the NFC. Now Im gonna go have a heart attack, peace.

I fully agree, I got tired of hearing Jaws praise McNabb and then mention how it was all his records being broken, so I went and flipped it onto Westwood One at halftime. They were having studio problems for the pre-game and halftime reports, but they pressed on, and while Michael Irvin was calling the game, he was amazingly unbiased. He did bring up some of the same items ESPN had brought up in the first half, but he didn't praise Romo or McNabb until after the game, when he praised both and discussed how the NFC East was quite possibly the most difficulot division in all of professional sports with Marv Alberts.

MEMO to the Vikings.
To Beat the Colts you need to score TDs not Kick FGs.
Jackson was rightfully booed off the field.
At Least AP had 160 yards rushing.

The Chargers were ripped by the Refs. That should have been a fumble, game over, SD Wins.
But then the way SD Defense played they deserve to lose.

The NFC East is going to a Wild Ride this year. Hope the Giants or Eagles or Redskins will hold off those Punks from down South.

Rams and Chiefs look down-right HORRIBLE.
