In the modern Cartoon Network series of Cartoon Cartoons, which do you think is rated too high by the public?

You can choose one you think is good or bad.

I think Powerpuff Girls has always been overrated. Dexter's Laboratory gets too much recognition, too.

My vote would have to be Cow & Chicken. I think it's nothing more than a dumbed down Ren & Stimpy ripoff.

Not PPG as most posters would say. It deserves it. I used to say I hated the show, but when I thought about it -- WHY DO I HATE THE SHOW? I had no answer. So I kind of like it. It's not bad.

"Kids Next Door" because it got first place in the second Big Pick. Damnit.

Not PPG as most posters would say. It deserves it. I used to say I hated the show, but when I thought about it -- WHY DO I HATE THE SHOW? I had no answer. So I kind of like it. It's not bad. Its not that it's bad, it's just not as great as people make it seem.

Overrated? For merchandising, I'd say Powerpuff Girls. The show isn't that bad though, but I can't blame the network for trying to make a buck when they have the goods right?

As for the rest...to the general public, many people are not familiar with other cartoon cartoons aside from the PPG. I mean the whole genera as a whole is somewhat small. When I went out into the general online animation community, I had gotten good responses from almost everyone about Cartoon Network's original series. Since most are less than 5 years old, they haven't earned a real steady fanbase enough to be overrated. We see Powerpuff Girl merchandise in stores which is overkill, but when i watch the show, I'm rarely disappointed.

So I say none. Hell, the day when I can walk into one of my classes and hear people talk about any of the Cartoon Cartoons, I'll know its overrated.

1) They don't need all those toys
2) They didn't need a Game Boy game (which stuck :p)
3) They don't need a movie
4) CN is too obsessed with them

It's an okay show, but way to over-rated. The Eds deserve more respect if you ask me...

I think PPG is worthy of the attention it gets for being a good series, but I agree the merchandising is out of hand. I picked up some of the first few toys when they came out because there was like NOTHING EVER (well, except for this one toy car that when for a brick of money on ebay when it was up for bidding.) I thought I was lucky to get some PPG toys cuz I was a huge fan of the series early on, but then suddenly everywhere I looked, there was PPG crap all over the shelves, and I couldn't stand it. Tho I do wonder if those early toys I got will be worth anything later on? So in terms of merchandising, the PPG are overrated, but I think the show is still worthy of attention because it is a great show.

They don't need a movie? Then what Cartoon Cartoon should get a theatrical movie? And don't say Courage or Ed, Edd, and Eddy, because they don't have as huge a following. They would have to get movies after PPG.

Think about it, would they release a Mike, Lu, and Og movie before one of the bigger Cartoon Cartoons?

I really don't thin any Cartoon Cartoon shoudl get a movie. Why?

Powerpuff Girls - will just be a like an average episode, only extend having a long "just music reapeting the same thing over and over" and the girls will alomost loose but magically win.

Ed, Edd n Eddy - It should stick with a 30 min. show... I can't see what a EEnE movie would be about.

Dexter, Courage, Sheep, etc. - Ditto as EEnE

Mike, Lu & og - Hate this show anyway, so I WOULD NOT want a movie.

Dexter is overrated? Not anymore, it isn't. All the Dexter hype and talk seems quieted down. On these boards, PPGs is definetly the most underrated CC. The only real talk of PPGs is about how overrated it is.

The issue with PPG merchandise is that much of it is crappy stuff. There's no creativity in much of it, what, with everything using one canned image or another.

Can't really blame CN, since they're not in control of the merchandising. That comes from their parent, Warner Bros., in the consumer products division. If it was CN, we'd still be stuck without much of anything on a shelf outside of the stuff the employees get (which I happen to have some of too, but that's beside the point*. :p )

As for the car, you're prolly talking about the 1/24 scale NASCAR, 1998 form. IIRC, it went as high as $300 ...

-- Kane ... and I happen to have two of them too. Bought at much lower prices, though, mind you.

(*) - there are more employee-exclusive Dexter shirts than one's that can be bought comercially.

EEnE. I hate that show. imo, it probably is my least favorite show on CN. I just don't find it funny.

About PPG and dexter, dexter is not that overrated. It's new season attracted alot of hype because of its great content. And PPG is alot less hyped then any Nick show, so I don't find a fault with it.

I'd say the powerpuff girls; they get too much attention, and it's like all the other shows never seem to exist! I don't seem to like shows that are like that. As the old saying goes (and as Double D said in Ed, Edd n Eddy's "Hands Across Ed" episode), "The bigger you are, the harder you fall."

If I were someone working for the ppg (thank goodness I'm not), I'd watch the popularity rates. Going too high can cause sudden falls, you know, and it is a true fact.

And to atf487, if the Eds are over-rated, why do we hardly hear about it, and all we see on TV are "ppg and dexter this" and "ppg and dexter that?" No offense, but it gets old fast.

Let's see, overrated: "Undeserving of praise received." PPG and Dex have gotten a ton of praise and airplay, because their really good shows. Courage is a middling show that gets middling praise. Johnny Bravo got fairly good praise while it was good, then got blasted when it was bad. C&C was the most overrated, but finally faded away, so they don't count. So....

Ed, Edd, and Eddy is the most overrated. It's an abysmal mess with a mysteriously large and loyal fanbase and a ton of airtime. Awful lot of attention for a show that looks like I animated it, based on a script written by my mom's dog.

E3 debuted to more fanfare than PPG. I tuned in, even though I don't like jiggle animation. It was awful. I can remember up to where their Speedos came off and the other kids ate them, then my mind goes mercifully blank. Salvador Dali would have thought the plot too freeform. The Marquis de Sade would have thought the jokes too mean. I would have thought it could only improve, but it never has. It still comes off as a cruel joke on kids. It's just a bad show. And for some reason, it gets praise.

Wow! Harsh words there... haha. I agree about the animation, but the writing is AT LEAST mediocre.

and to above: we hear about E,E&E the most on these boards. Well we did at least for awhile.

ok, I have a question...since when does Merchandise == Praise?

Does this mean that Burger King's huge Batman & Robin ad campain was because they thought it was a good movie? No, it was because Warner Brothers paid them alot of money.

PPG is an enjoyable show, which apeals to a wide range of people, it's a show parents can watch with their kids, and get jokes, that the kids won't. It's well written, decently animated, and most of all, consistant.

Dexter's Lab...never gotten into it, but from what I've seen, it too is consistant, and decently animated/written.

The Eds - The Show Sucks...period. the plot to every episode I've seen, involves the Eds trying to earn spare change for whatever reason, and try to do so with an implosible, overly complicated scheme, which of course, backfires. Why don't they just hit their parents up for cash, and free up a 1/2 hour for another show. Like Scooby Doo. Which is better. Honest.

Time Squad is quickly becoming my favorite CC....Mark Hamil & Pamela "Rusty amongst countless others" Segal + good writing, unique plot, and decent animation == great time!

I think the whole Cartoon Cartoon idea is overratted. I like PPG, I like TS...but they aren't anything super special. The whole block gets my vote.

Correction: It is because they probably paid out the @ss to get the rights to merchandise it. Why do you think they promoted the hell out of their Pokemon toys?

who paid whom is not the point, there's plenty of money changing hands that I'll never see...

the point I was trying to get across is that, just because there's alot of merchandise, doesn't mean that something is overrated...it just means someone is spending alot to develop products with the image...probably because it's popular...another non-issue as to wether something is overrated.

Overrated == People saying it's better than it is...Television..Is overrated. =D

Eddy_Girly: Not commercially, but where I go. My friends all like it, you guys on the boards love it, I don't. It usually seems overrated, when you have no taste in it, because you wonder why a promotion goes to a "crappier" cartoon, then what you like.

And about the dexter and ppg thing, you prolly don't like it. I don't mind it, because it is successful.

This may sound odd, But In My humble opinion Grim And Evil is the most overrated cartoon. I mean once th "Two Cartoons in One" Novelty wares out it seems to be devoid of content.

Cow and Chicken is merely a Ren and Stimpy carbon copy.

EEnE can't really be overrated, but it's the old schitck with the kids growing up in the neighborhood thinking up a scheme or two. The animation is clean compared to Danny Antonucci's MTV shorts in the mid 90s.

My take--Time Squad is very overrated. The modern take on the Peabody and Sherman snippets doesn't really apply. I also have to think the same about Sheep in the Big City.

Dexter and the PPG, enough said--the franchise of CN.

I don't think Ed, Edd n Eddy is overrated. It gets just as much attention it deserves...which is none.

The most overrated Cartoon Cartoon is Time Squad. Why the hell did that show get Grammy nominations, yet Batman Beyond got zero? Makes absolutely no sense.

Sheep is definately the most under-rated, but I have no idea what would be the most over-rated... I'd probably go with Dexter, but It'd be a tough choice I choose not to make. :cool:

Personally, I think that several shows are overrated on the block. Here are the ones I can think of:

-Cow and Chicken: Everyone else said it: wants to be like Kirkfalusci, but it isn't. Besides, what is the big deal about Cow anyway? I hate Cow!

-Dexter: I just think that it has become a tad overhyped as of late. And besides, while there are several great episodes of Dexter, many are just blah episodes that are rather predictable or filled with stupid jokes that don't work.

-PPG: Similar to Dexter, but only with a lot more stuff out there.

I think PPG is the most overrated NOT because they have stuff and get the ratings. I just think the story lines are worn out. These have been used a million times by other cartoons out there.

2nd most overated would be Grim and Evil, I just don't find it funny at all. CN had the biggest promo's for them when they premired and they have only shown 6 eps.

Most Underated would be Bravo. He kicks butt and takes names and doesn't get any respect. True, the 2nd season kinda, well sucked, but there's about 30 1st season eps out there that are really funny.

My Favorite show, the Eds are not over or underrated. They get the airtime they need, they get really good ratings, (#3 in the US) and the show is funny and original. No monsters and superpowers and other stuff like that. Just Kids thinking of funny things to do during summer vacation.

I don't think Ed Edd & Eddy is overrated. I think the people who think it is overrated are most of the people who hate it.

I don't think Grim & Evil is overrated either, its treated like a regular cartoon now plus I think it's a very clever and funnyshow but those are only my opinions. Everyone has different tastes and I respect that
As for the most overrated it would have to be Powerpuff Girls not that I don't like it(my room is full of merchandise) but I just don't think any Cartoon Cartoon should be made into a movie

EEnE was sneered when it first came out, but what I like about it is that it shows a not too innocent, but not too profane version on growing up in the suburbs--compared to South Park. It's one of those gems in which if you could understand the character's schitcks, you'll enjoy it and each character has their own unique trait.

I like to see Cow and Chicken (while overrated I wouldn't mind seeing once a day--it's fodder for the kids) once a day despite it being a very innane show. However, I find Courage to be nothing more than a Scooby Doo rip-off, except the monsters are real. Eustace makes the show interesting as being a scrooge but other than that--hard to understand, and maybe a bit too intense for kids.

Johnny Bravo isnt underrated, Johnny gets to host almost everything CN dishes out, and at least has SOME merchandise. Ed Edd n eddy deserves to have more recognization. There one of the most popular Cartoon Cartoons but CN treats them like there the least. PPG and Dexter are WAY overrated, there both great shows, but they get WAY to much attention.
