I'm guessing that Marathon's Famous Five cartoon hasn't reached Amerca yet. Well, I've just seen it for the first time courtesy of an online clip and.... AAAAHHH

It's one of the most bizarre things I've seen in a while, and not in a good way. Middle class Enid Blyon jollyhockeysticksery filtered through an American tweencom = weirdness for all

I was addicted to the really old show and the books when I was a kid. I used to think it would be cool if they made a cartoon based on it but this was far from what I had in mind.

Right on MonkeyFunk. While it may be a sale in Europe, I honestly can't see people (or kids for that matter) on this side of the pond liking it. The humour is just too different, even for the Disney Channel demographics.

I wonder if Enid Blyton is spinning in her grave.

A good Famous Five revival would be hard to pull off, but doable. The books appealed to kids for decades so they must be doing something right - trouble is, they've never been examples of good writing (and they also embody what have to be the most cringe-inducing aspects of English culture)

For a new adaptation to work, it'd have to keep the good stuff, but be liberal in jettisoning the bad stuff. This one doesn't - it keeps the old bad stuff, and combines it with new, trendier bad stuff. It's a mess.
