Are they really experimenting with that? I heard a rumor they were working on a Virtual Pac-Man game.

People have been experimenting with the idea for years. I seriously doubt it'll ever become popular any time soon, though.

I think the main problem with "virtual reality" as it has most commonly been conceived is that no matter how good the technology gets, nobody wants to play games while wearing a cumbersome visor that covers your eyes and blocks out your peripheral vision.

Maybe when we've got something more like a holodeck it'll take off, but that'll be quite a while if ever.

Everyone has had a hand at virtual reality (even Nintendo) and all of them failed horribly (even Nintendo). VR's time has come and gone and nobody cares about it anymore. The new consoles have lifelike graphics and if you really want to be part of the action, there's the Wii. I think part of the problem was that everyone thought that having 3D images pop out at you on the screen was "virtual reality" and made horribly designed VR consoles absolutely no one want's to play. Even if they did make a true VR machine,, it would so expensive no one could afford it.

I'm sure the tech will get there eventually (something akin to what Mynd Hed mentioned, on a smaller scale), but it's more a matter of when this tech will become cost-effective.

Honestly, I'm still waiting for duel disks before we can get into video games
