Ash, Brock and Dawn continue their adventures through the land of Sinnoh, meeting some brand new Pokémon, rivals, and challenges along the way!
4
Recently:
Buizel learned Water Pulse while at the same time Ash won his third badge (in a tie).
Ash was able to stop Team Galactic and their evil ways for the moment, but for how long?
Ash’s next gym battle will be in Pastoria Town.
And Dawn is still not sure when her next contest will be.
4
Last Time:
“Pika and Goliath!”
Encore Saturday, September 6th @ 9:00am
Ash and Pikachu had a battle with a trainer and a Raichu. Pikachu lots pretty badly the first time by and Paul suggested that Pikachu should evolve. But in the end, Pikachu did not evolve and Ash and Sho battled again, this time with Ash coming out on top.

This Time:
“Our Cup Runneth Over!”
Saturday, September 6th @ 9:30am
Today, Dawn meets someone unexpected. Who you might ask? Wallace, the contest master! Dawn is eager to participate in the Wallace cup contest. Dawn shows off her pokemon for Wallace, but will Wallace be all that impressed?
4
Notes:
We will now be entering the Wallace Cup ark, so get used to the characters that show up for the next few episodes.
CN’s fall schedule is now in place so that means that there are no more episodes of pokemon weekday mornings.
September means that it’s back to school. So, yeah, enjoy that.

I didn't see that ending coming. But it took me a few seconds to realize that "Holy crap, it's May!". I wonder when Misty will show up...
Wow, are we at this arc already? Feels like just yesterday it aired in Japan.

Ash never meet Wallace at all in the Horenn region at all?
Yes finally this the arch I have waiting for, we see one of Ash's old travel companion. May is back, I wonder if Drew, Harley or any of the other contest coordinators from Horenn will appear?
The Tednut! I am sorry to tell you but Misty not going to appear in this arc. She is not a contest coordinator, she is a gym leader.
I wonder what will Team Rocket reaction to May return will be? What will they call her. Ash is the twerb, Brock is the big twerb, and the girl of the group is the other twerb.
Speaking of Team Rocket, you notice Team Rocket hasn't try to steal any Pokemon and been on their best behavior for the last few episodes, and now they began a contest arc, so it will be a lot of episodes in between Team Rocket doing their normal villain acts. I am glad to see it, and when they don't try to do anything bad, they don't blast off and some times even get rewarded. Good for them. What is the record for most number of episodes in a row of TR not trying to steal Pokemon? I know at the end of the Johto league they tried to make business selling bottle caps and they didn't cause trouble until after the tournament.

Nope. What happened is Emerald version (which was the third game of R/S, similar to Yellow compared to Red/Blue) replaced Wallace with Juan for the 8th gym, so the show skipped over him and just focused on the game that was out at the time.
If not this arc, will she appear any time while Ash and co. are in Sinnoh? I really miss the character.
I'm sure Misty will make a short appearance in Sinnoh at some point. She hasn't in Japan so far, but as long as the character isn't named "Tracey" or "Max," all other older characters have a good chance to re-appear.

I am sure she will too. She was mentioned last season. For the Sinnoh my ideal situation for her, would be for the gang to see you again, shortly there after they run into Paul. Misty informs Paul she is the Ceralean gym leader, Paul makes a rude comment about hearing about the Ceralean gym being a pathic circus and and the most pathetic gym leaders (remember how easily Gary just destroyed Daisy, Violet, and Lily off screen, they had one Pokemon left by the time Ash got there), eventully a battle between Misty and Paul is agreed to. And for what happened with Paul and Maylene to happen with Misty. Paul beats Misty in a battle, wins a gym badge, is a real jerk about it, Ash can't stand it any more, challenges Paul to a battle, Ash fianlly defeats Paul. I would love to see Ash stand up for Misty like that. Also love the idea for Misty standing up for her family even though sisters give her a hard time, she wouldn't let some outsider like Paul insult them.
I have had his idea for a while, before the Maylene arc happened. They probably wouldn't do that, because they did with Maylene, though they have redone ideas recently.

While that sounds like an interesting idea, I would much rather see Ash finally defeating Paul in a six-on-six match in the Sinnoh League instead. That would be way more intense and rival the match between Ash and Gary in the Johto League.

If you're referring to the Pokemon Ranger Special where Hunter J appears, then they're waiting until they can air it closer to the release of the game. I doubt that its any more scary than any of her other appearances so that wouldn't be an issue at all.
As for the episode, I thought that it was pretty good. I liked how we got to see Wallace finally. Most people were sure that he wouldn't appear before this arc started in Japan. I loved the idea of a traveling contest named after him where the ribbon can be used in any other region.
I also enjoyed seeing Ash train for his next gym. Turtwig's Energy Ball is really strong. I liked hearing Dawn admiring Ash's training and strengths as a trainer and I thought that the shippers were just eating that moment up. It was nice to see her being inspired to train, but she realized she was making the same mistake again with making the moves flashy and ignoring her Pokemon. Dawn does have potential to be a great coordinator. It's just that lately she has been messing up her appeals and not really training her Pokemon hard enough, on-screen anyway.
I liked seeing Dawn going into a fangirl mode over Wallace. I was sure that most coordinators had heard of him since he is a Contest Master. Jessie going through that too was kind of funny too. I was happy when they found him with his Milotic. Such a beautiful Pokemon. Getting that time with just him and Milotic really did give him a calm demeanor. I was surprised to see Ash and Dawn going into a contest battle, as well as Brock explaining the trade Ash and Dawn made.
The battle went pretty well, though I honestly wish that Dawn would use something else in battle that isn't her Piplup. I also thought that Buizel was doing a better job than Piplup for the majority of the battle. I also didn't think that Dawn really did much of any training with Buizel when she had it. She tried teaching that move to it, the spinning Aqua Jet during the trade episode, but she never got it right. Ash entering the Contest with Buizel was kind of a surprise, but it does sound like a cool idea, especially since Buizel was never able to enter a contest.
I really liked the advice Wallace gave to Dawn. She has been so focused on winning and making those appeals as flashy as possible that she's forgotten about making her Pokemon naturally flow during those appeals and battles. That's one reason why I think she needs to train harder and get more intuned with all of her Pokemon, especially the other ones on her team that aren't Piplup since she has that out so often.
Jessie showing up in disguise and fawning over Wallace and Milotic was great and funny. So she's going to use her Serviper in the next Contest? I was wondering what Pokemon she would use since now her Dustox is gone. Since she has a lot more experience and knowledge than she did the first time she tried a Contest back in Advance, she'll probably do better with Serviper this time around. Seeing Wallace's Milotic perform like that was beautiful and it proved that being relaxed and intuned to your Pokemon could really help out in Contests. Yeah, Wallace was pretty awesome in this episode.
Hopefully with those words of guidence, Dawn will do better in this Contest. I've often gotten annoyed with her skills since her last Contest, but it's more like I want her to improve than to stay the way she is and continue to be annoyed with said skills. Of course, one of the best parts of this episode was seeing May make a cameo at the end of the episode. I am so happy that we'll be seeing her again. She was part of the reason why I love the AG saga so much. I'll also be happy to see what kind of Pokemon she'll have with her.
Overall, a fun episode. A new guidence for Dawn, meeting Wallace and a cameo by May. I'm so looking foreword to seeing the rest of this Contest arc. I really hope that its better than all of the other Contest in D/P that we've seen thus far. Since Dawn has really weak and uninteresting rivals, the Contests themselves have been kind of dull. This Contest should definitely turn out better just for having May making an appearance.

Next episode the gang will say May again, and so will Team Rocket. Two girl twerbs for the price of one. LOL
With that in mind, of the three girl twerps as TR calls them, which one do you think gets the most on Jessie's nerves. Which girl this side of Cassidy, do you think Jessie would like to defeat the most?
I think it would be Misty after all Misty did humilate her in the Princess Day contest.

We're only like 20ish episodes behind where Japan is. This is the closest the dub has ever been with the Japanese version.
Back in the old days of KidsWb and 4kids, the dub was always at least a full 52 episodes behind whatever episode was airing in Japan.
Its amazing we're so close, it wouldn't even surprise me if PUSA has already started dubbing the 11th movie too.

We're given an update as to what they're up to and see them watching the competition on TV, but they don't actually have any lines or really get to do much of anything.

Not quite. The closest we've ever been is when "Cooking Up A Great Story!" aired last year. When that episode premiered, we were only thirteen episodes behind Japan.

I'd like to see Hunter J attack Paul and steal all his pokemon. I know Paul's a really good trainer, but Hunter J could ambush him as well as overpower him with numbers (she had a lot of henchmen, right). It's not like it would be a gym battle with everyone following the rules, after all. Paul's such a jerk, I'd love to see him taken down a few pegs.
Of course, Ash (and Chimchar) would help him get his pokemon back...but I'm sure Paul would still act like an ungrateful jerk.
Do you think Gary could defeat Paul?

I think it would be Misty after all Misty did humilate her in the Princess Day contest.
I actually think May had more of a rivalry behavior with Jessie. They both caught a Wrumple for Contests in which they had arguments over whose Wrumple was better, May's Beautifly and Jessie's Dustox had some battles against each other and they both had a fight over who would catch Skitty. While Misty did humilate Jessie during the Princess Day contest, that was one of their few interactions together. On the other hand, May did more to rival against Jessie during her run, mostly during Hoenn though.

I'm surprised that we're this close behind Japan's airings too, even though its not as close as it was last year as Dogasu explained. It's kind of fun to remember how farther behind we were back during the days of Pokemon on Kids'WB. I honestly would be surprised if PUSA has already started dubbing the next movie mainly because its only been out for nearly two months in Japan. I think that we probably won't see the movie this year. I was thinking sometime around next spring or so, but I don't understand the total process of dubbing these movies.
I don't understand why their waiting for the next game to release the Hunter J episodes but whatever. I'll have to make sure to write down the date for the next episode, I like the way Ash uses the Buzeil in this arc :)
It's pretty easy to understand. They'll want to have the special close to when the next Pokemon Ranger game comes out in order to adverstie said new game. I don't understand why they messed up with the new Mystery Dungeon special, but hopefully that won't happen here with the Pokemon Ranger special.

That would be interesting to see. Though for some reason, I don't think that Paul would totally be overpowered by Hunter J. We haven't seen him lose a battle before, so he may have some tricks up his sleeves to get out of a situation like that. I wouldn't mind him taken down a peg or two or Ash and Chimchar helping him out though. As for a Gary vs. Paul battle, I would have to give it to Paul. I could see Gary putting up a good fight and all, but Paul just seems like he has better battle skills than Gary. Besides that, I already prefer Paul as Ash's rival, but it would be an interesting match all the same.

Maybe so, but I think Misty personality clashes more with Jessie's personality than any of the other female travel compannions. They both similar in being very bossy, it seemed to me when Ash and company and Team Rocket are forced to work together like when they were trapped on the St. Anne, Jessie didn't seem to like Misty bossing her around. And Misty seems to be more closer with the two main TR nemesis Ash and Pikachu than May or Dawn. That just adds a little extra to the rivalaory.
But as far as overal people, no contest it is Cassidy that is Jessie's main rival in life.

...and James' is Jessebelle! That might be an interesting idea...have Jessebelle turn out to be a coordinator too. At least for one contest. They could have the old 'mistaken identity' shtick, and James can spend most of the episode sneaking around and hiding from his fiance. Perhaps Jessebelle will find romance with some hunky young coordinator (yeah, I know), and that would let James off the hook! I like when they include the history of the characters in with current story lines, since the show usually has such a 'time-less' quality (they never age, etc.).

Misty does have a similar personality to Jessie as I remember Mewoth making a couple of comments before of how she's just like Jessie. Maybe that's one reason why I didn't really like Misty. That and she never did that much compared to May and Dawn. I thought that Jessie did eventually go along with Misty taking control during that St. Anne arc since she knew about the structure of the ship. I don't think Misty being closer to Ash and Pikachu really added much of a rivarly between her and Jessie.
As for Cassidy, I'm not sure if she's really a rival. More like the one person Jessie hates the most in the world. Besides that, Cassidy is nothing more than a really lame imidator of Jessie since the writers basically runined her and Butch's character in Chronciles. I honestly wouldn't call that rival material.

What is the record for most number of episodes in a row of TR not trying to steal Pokemon? I know at the end of the Johto league they tried to make business selling bottle caps and they didn't cause trouble until after the tournament.
Good point, lets review the last few episodes:
"Our Cup Runneth Over" - Jessilina made an apperence, but TR made no attempt at stealing Pikachu.
"Pika and Goliath" - They were cheering Pikachu on in this episode.
"Crossing Paths" - Jessie was preoccupied by letting her Dustox go.
"Bells are Singing" - Not Pikachu but the Chingling...
"Enter Galactic” – Team Galactic stole the spotlight in this episode.
“A Triple Fighting Chance” – Ash’s gym battle
“Crossing the Battle Lint” – Dawn’s gym battle
“Lost Leader Strategy” – TR did try to steal Lucario, but failed miserably.
So, out of the last 7 episodes, TR only tried to steal one pokemon and not Pikachu. They seem to have lost some interest in Pikachu.
Interesting thought. I think Misty vs Paul would turn out well, but Paul would obviously use Electabuzz and Tortara to easily overpower Misty. And Paul wouldn’t get a gym badge because he already has it. And I would think that Ash would get the chance to battle Paul. Ash will ask to battle, and Misty will think that he’s protecting her in some way, but Paul will refuse to battle, and Ash will get mad and that will only fuel the fire between them.
Now Wallace was a cool character. His advice was perfect for Dawn. Sure Zoey told Dawn what to focus on, but Wallace really knew what to do. Ash’s battle with Dawn was cool too. Wallace telling Ash to compete was a present surprise. I really wasn’t expecting Wallace to tell a trainer to compete in a contest. I know Ash participates every once in a while (mostly because of Aipom) but that’s only for fun. This seems like a very serious competition, so Ash competing almost seems like he’s going to be out of place and possibly in the way, especially if he makes it past the first round, because his battle skills are a little be than the average coordinator, even if it is a contest battle.
Now Wallace’s appeal was simply awesome. Water ring was a cool move that I have never heard of before. And the power of that twister was mind blowing. And his exit was cool too. I like Wallace. And just imagine, Wallace vs Marina, now that would be epic. :D
And Ash gave May a call? Weird, but really cool. I wonder how Ash is going to get May all the way to the top of Sinnoh. But Dawn, May, and Ash in the same contest, that should be epic as well.
And personally, I like May in Blue better than in Green…

That is even better. Another thing Paul can do, is for him to say when he won the Cerulean badge, he throw it out, because he considered it worthles. But you have to agree, it is in Paul's character to make fun of Cerulean City Gym, Misty, and Misty's whole family (including Misty's mother and / or father, I assume the Cerulean gym is a family gym and one or both of Misty's parents were the gym leaders). That is just like Paul. I think he would be sweet and awsome to see Ash stand up for Misty, and in turn Misty stand up for her family, which would say a lot about her character, considering the way her sisters can be.
I was watching the Waterflowers Of Cerulean City the other day, I thought to myself how would Paul react if he was Ash when he first walked through the Cerulean City gym, and saw the circus like enviroment of the Cerulean City gym, and if Paul was Gary in sending all of the gym leaders Pokemon except for one useless Pokemon, to the Pokemon center.
He would probably make fun of the place for looking like a circus, and if he destroyed the gym leaders in a Pokemon battle like Gary apprently did, than he would make fun of their skills.

And Ash gave May a call?
From what I gather, May put in the first message, their Nurse Joy sent it to Ash, he answered and transferred his call to the Snowpoint Nurse Joy.
Anyhoo, great to see my dear May again. Dawn's cool, but May has always been my favorite of Ash's female traveling partners.
I've seen the next 3 eps in their original Japanese form, and while I won't spoil the details, I can tell you that the final round battle will be most entertaining.

Do you think Gary could defeat Paul?
I'm going to have to say no. Gary is a great trainer, but he isn't a full time trainer anymore. His main job is to do research in the sinnoh region. Sure he still has some kick ass pokemon on him, but I think Paul is more 'in shape' than Gary.
Edit:: Crap I did it again... the date says 8/30 instead of 9/6... fail

Hopefully we do get a Gary Vs. Paul battle at some point, the writers will likely make an episode eventually where both of them meet. Hopefully they have a quick battle together if they do.
