I finally got around to catching up on this. It's been awhile since I've really looked forward to a series coming out. Also one that has so many of my favorite characters than I can count on just one hand.

And speaking of which, Free finally gets to do something after 20+ chapters of standing around as that 'tall guy in a lackey uniform.' (Except him and Kid aren't doing so good right now, but at least they made the Mosquito guy change into something cool.)

I thought they'd do something better with Kim and Ox Ford, seemed kind of by the book, but there's still room for that later.

Joe's character looked like it was going somewhere, so I wish they would've stretched his appearance out somewhat longer instead of killing him off within a few chapters just to give Stein even more development. >:\
And it took Black Star 30+ chapters to finally show off Masamune. He's kind of shocked me as the series' progressed, because I'm so used to everyone giving him that Naruto stereotype. He's actually a pretty vicious, maladjusted little guy. >>;

Black Star's a pretty scary character. But I really like him for that too. He's the type who can back up his threats, except for the time when him and Kid got into a fight.

Harvar was another character that surprised me. I didn't expect him to be so cold-blooded. He cut down Kim without so much as a warning; I didn't imagine his personality being like that.

I thought they were getting ready to use Kim's Orihime-ish healing factor, but it turns out Brew patches Kid's arm back on with a power-up.

I thought Free could only make a hologram of what he looks like in real-time, not project faked death images. Otherwise he could have tricked Kid and Star much easier back at Shibusen. But it's magic, so whatever.

Eibon's such a snazzy dresser...

So is he going to be Kishin's polar rival?

I agree about the Black*Star thing. He is a Naruto stereotype, but he's also what Naruto would be like if he actually got attention from the creator. He'd improve majorly like B*S has. I love his abnoxious character.

So I definitely just plowed through all 56 chapters in the last three days. And I've got to say, I love this series. I <3 me some Death the Kid.

53 was probably my favorite chapter of the entire series... probably has something to do with massive amounts of Kid awesomeness. Very cool (too bad Soul wasn't there to see it :p). But geez, he goes from epic awesome to getting "collected" by the fake Eidon... no good.

Mifune is pretty badass, but Black Star is badass in his own right. His new Masamune was nifty.

And now that I'm caught up... back to the painful waiting periods between chapters of a series you love. Serves me right for going through it so quickly ><

I think Black Star just killed Mifune. Interesting how they're finally showing some backstory on Sid.

For a minute I thought they were going to say Arcahne had Asura with her when she started singing about insanity.

Maka now goes through a costume change when she Demon Slayers.

Arachne apparently leaves a lot of openings when she fights, because that all went together really smooth.

New chapter is awesome. Maka's wardrobe change is black blood, Arachne is finally taken down, Crona's back (and a girl, apparently), the monkey meister makes his appearance, Medusa's revival, etc. Great stuff. I wish the anime was as cool as the manga has been these past months.

Well, so much for my theory that Joe killed himself by reason of insanity.

Can't wait for Stein to find whoever killed him, that should make for an interesting fight. Hopefully it's not just Asura, but rather some kind of offshoot like the Clown.

Why does it feel like the translations are splicing in lines about courage just because it was in the anime finale?

Maka's dress being black blood was a nice touch--not just a random wardrobe change after all. Medusa taking over Arachne's body was pretty cool. Just can't get rid of that witch. I liked her merged look afterwards. And Chrona looking quite feminine there at the end... O_O

The Justin thing just threw me for a complete loop. Talk about what a twist. Also, it seems like Maria may have multiple forms or something, sort of like Tsubaki. I loved that form that Stein had her go in. He dominated Justin.

This chapter felt like it came out of nowhere in several ways. First off, the transition from Baba Yaga castle to the aftermath didn't really exist. Just Baba Yaga's castle and then Death City.

I was also surprised at how easily everyone seemed to be taking Kid's disappearance. If nothing else, you'd think because he is Shinigami's son they'd be a bit more concerned. But I'm also biased because he's my favorite ;)

Poor Angela. That whole scenario has the potential to go very, very badly.

And woah, Justin shocked me as well. That seemed to come out of nowhere as well. It was good to see Stein and Marie, though. Stein was awesome, too, working with Marie.

Can't help but wonder what can happen to Angela. She's eventually going to find out what happened, and it might not be pretty. Who would want to put her down? She's far too cute!

The characters are really growing into their own here. I wish Bones wasn't the type of studio to do 50-episode shows--it hardly seemed like anyone had any real development in the anime series. Patty's taking over for Kid in his absence? That's pretty cool. Everyone's rocking those new outfits too.

Soul Eater's deathscythe form can also be seen on the cover page, can't it? I wonder what it can do now.

I got a good laugh at Sid's reaction to Patty and Liz at the firing range. "Why can't I trade with someone else?"

And Kid would try to organize Noah's book, haha. Too bad he's taking a beating for it. Would it be weird to think he looked kinda cute there? ... What? I am a fangirl, you know.

The Soul and Maka plotline with them trying to learn how to fly was just great. I love how Maka flips out on Soul because he can't picture her as an angel. I wonder why?

The flying scene reminded me of Card Captor Sakura, but I could be reading too much into the chapter. Regardless of Gopher's sex, that last line was just weird. "Satisfy Noah-sama?" Riiiiight.

Soul's having some issues and Gopher comes after Maka. "NOAH-SAAAMAAA!" Yikes he's creepy; got the whole black angel deal going on.

So, while Maka is fighting for her life and Kid is kidnapped, their friends are... eating ice cream.

Maka wins (though no doubt not killing Gopher is going to come back to haunt her/Shibusen). Gopher freaks and Noah denies him... thus Gopher takes it out on Kid. And Justin takes out his headphones to listen. Creep.

Kirikou, Patti, Liz, and Kim go to Central Africa on a recon mission. They go into a lab and retrieve some documents made by Medusa, which talk about Madness, the black blood, the Afreet (see: Kishin), and Crona. It turns out to be black magic to manipulate the madness within others. Then we get a gunfight where Kirikou uses the Thompson sisters instead of Fire and Thunder against several civilians descended into madness due to Medusa's influence. After finding out that Medusa experimented on Crona, a black Pierrot crafted by Medusa shows up to bring the madness.

Things are getting weird, although that's nothing new for Soul Eater. It wasn't clarified what exactly was being done to Crona, and I really want to find that out soon. We've been getting teases of the kid over the last few chapters, but nothing concrete about what's been happening to her.

New chapter. Fire and Thunder's Soul Resonance is really cool, and I guess the question of their gender has been answered. I'm glad even side characters like Kirikou get fights. What's pretty surprising is that Medusa plans to have the Black Pierrot resonate with the Afreet.

Also, Black Star is a lot taller than he was at the beginning of the series, and Crona's return was perfectly done. I wonder what happened to her though.

Chapter 77 is out, boys and girls.

Kid's gone completely off the deep end (:crying:) and Black*Star came to bring him back... but that's not going smoothly. Looks like Black*Star is up next for the power temptation as well.

And Maka's fight with Giriko (more gender-bending) finally concludes... Ick for Giriko. Dude-turned-insane-woman had too much bloodlust for a body or soul to contain. Creepy.

I'm caught up. I am actually kind of hoping Black Star does go off the deep end. We have been given a tease here and there to the potential power he has when he is evil, but never the full thing, so it'd be cool to get it now and then have Patty and Liz be the ones to save Kid (with Tsubaki saving Black Star).

Otherwise, I am ready to be done with the book. Maybe it is because it is a monthly manga, but it has dragged a bit for me when Soul Eater is usually so well paced. The gender bending was fun as well as some of the other bits, but time to rescue Kid and get some answers on things. Not to mention I want to get back to Medusa.
