Do they still write stories that address the issue of racism?

I think I recall seeing some Steel books that addressed the issue and I remember reading a Steel/Supergirl story in which they fought some corrupt racist politician.

Why DC? Why not any other company? And no, I don't think they do that any more.

I don't know if it's often as it was in the 60s and 70s but most black characters in the DC universe have had a story where they dealt with racism at some point. As far as asians or latinos, don't know for sure.

Yeah. Not as much as Marvel does, though. The X-Men have often been used as a metaphor for racism.

That Steel/Supergirl story was great. I was so excited about it I wrote Peter David a fan letter, but he never responded.

Which story was that?

The one you mentioned in your first post, I assume. Unless there's another Steel/Supergirl story that deals with racism.

New Guardians dealt with racism and apartheid. And AIDS. And it had a homosexual character. But it did it in such a heavy-handed way it was borderline offensive. The gay character was actually named Extrano, which translates to "strange" or, well, I might as well just say it, "queer."

I know-specifically what book was that from?

Hell, you know as well as me. You said you read it. But considering I wrote Peter David about it I'd say 90 percent it was in Supergirl.

I read it somewhere but it wasn't from a comic.

Oh god, I forgot about New Guardians. That was such an over-the-top comic. Extreno was way too much of a stereotype for me to take Englehart and Bates seriously at all.

Oh yeah, and Teen Titans Spotlight started out with a two-parter on apartheid. I seem to recall that they didn't submit the first issue to the Comics Code of Authority for fear of it being turned down, but the CCA was actually glad that they were doing a story about how horrible apartheid is, and approved the second issue. I might be misremembering part of that, but it was something like that. I know the first issue didn't have the CCA seal...

You could also save us the trouble and admit it if you made it up. Either way.

The story was Supergirl #23 "Some People Just Don't Get It." And Peter David did write about it in one of his books on writing comics. So, sorry for being so quick to doubt you on that one.
