The Scramble is on for the World Heavyweight Championship this Sunday at Unforgiven! With the injury to John Cena, General Manager Mike Adamle selected Rey Mysterio to replace him. Tonight we will see Mysterio for the first time since we learned that Kane was carrying his mask around. What condition with Mysterio be in tonight?

September 1, 2008
Though SummerSlam was just weeks ago, there is only one thing on the mind of WWE Superstars: Unforgiven. With a Championship Scramble set to feature five of Raw’s most powerful and intense competitors, tensions are running high.
That heat just might explode on Raw as the five Superstars meet early in a Raw Battle Royal. World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk, new Scramble Match addition Rey Mysterio, JBL, Kane and Batista will all be in the ring, searching for a way to grab an early advantage heading into Sunday's pay-per-view. Who will be the man left smiling after Raw and bringing momentum to the World Heavyweight Championship Scramble Match at Unforgiven?
Another pre-Unforgiven meeting takes place as well, as Shawn Michaels and Chris Jericho ink the contract for their Unsanctioned Match. This signing will be the first time these Superstars have been in the ring with each other since Y2J left HBK's wife in a world of pain. Will The Showstopper have a few words for his Unforgiven opponent just days before their contest?
Also on Raw, Randy Orton plans to make a special appearance to address the title holders on Raw. Orton is a former three-time World Champion, himself. What message will he deliver to the current champions?
In addition to having four opponents at Unforgiven and a Raw Battle Royal, Rey Mysterio may have more to battle. After General Manager Mike Adamle announced that John Cena’s recently sustained herniated disk in his neck would prevent him from competing in the World Heavyweight Championship Scramble, he replaced Cena with Mysterio. But Mysterio has been missing from Raw for months, due to a brutal attack by Kane, if the Big Red Monster is to be believed. Will Mysterio be in good enough physical condition to compete at Unforgiven? And what type of mental state will the Ultimate Underdog be in?
Last Monday night, Raw’s resident golden couple, Intercontinental Champion Santino Marella and Women’s Champion Beth Phoenix, had a brief lovers’ spat, due to Santino distracting Beth during a match against Kelly Kelly and The Glamazon’s subsequent loss. While “Glamarella” appears to have reconciled, could this signal a rocky period for Santino and Beth?
For the answers to these questions and more, make sure to tune into Monday Night Raw at 9/8 CT, back on its regular channel, only on USA Network.

It's really, really stupid to have a contract signing for an unsanctioned match. That's the whole point. That's it's non-official. It's like saying "Dear WWE. I Agree To Have A Match That You Guys Are Saying Isn't Going To Happen."

I thought Rey was locked in Kane's basement, getting the Saw treatment. So many lost opportunities there.

There were some rumors about HBK injuring his tricept, but i saw no signs of it at the end of the show. Is it just me or is everyone else tired of seeing two guys getting in each others face and talking about what they are going to do to each other. I'm not necessarily talking about the Y2J/HBK thing as i think the stipulation was that there was to be no altercation or else the match wouldn't happen. That i can understand, but i'm tired of seeing two guys talk. What's stopping them from fighting right then. At least put an arbiter between them to act as a wedge, otherwise it looks like they have their thumbs up their butts.

Ok, the misplaced commercial break wasn't confined to upstate NY. Can't pin that on the cable idiots.
Funny that Orton would run down fellow heels. Well, Santino deserved to get ripped, and if anyone is a fluke of a champion at present, it's him, not CM Punk. Maybe J-Me-L should start cutting "Cinderella" promos on Santino, and then we can see Beth pwn that preening carpetbagger.:D
I agree that the expiration date on Jillian's gimmick has come and gone. Vince doesn't know when to stop, so it goes on.
Funny that the Vince/Cena Gillette ad aired 3 times tonight, which is more often than normal. Wack.
Charlie Haas has officially hit rock bottom. He's using Stevie Richards' 1st WWF/E gimmick from 1999, when Stevie impersonated other wrestlers. Just like Stevie, Haas can't buy a win.
Kane may've won the battle royal, but he's clearly not going to win on Sunday. I think we're going to see Kane and Mysterio/Batista cancel each other out, leaving J-Me-L to get pwned one more time by Punk. Orton is positioned to be next in line once he gets off the DL.
Raw was taped last night, enabling Mickie to fly to St. Paul (not Minneapolis) for the Republican convention.
Jamie Noble finally wins, but how much d'ya wanna bet that Layla will eventually turn on him once and for all.
On the whole, a decent Raw.

For me, the misplaced commercial break was actually a commercial for TNA. Seemed like a real slap in the face after that Killer Kowalski tribute.
Randy Orton actually seemed to be saying a lot of stuff the crowd agreed with. Until he dissed CM Punk, anyway. It was an unusual role for someone to play.
Charlie Haas was perfect as John Cena -- I didn't realize it was him until a few seconds after he came out. Obviously he looked nothing like him, but he had the movements down perfectly.
Rey Mysterio's return? Unbelievably disappointing. There's a very simple concept that WWE's writers don't seem to get: if you build something up for a long time, it has to lead to something big. But it looks like the most we can possibly get out of this whole storyline is Rey Mysterio being angrier.
So how long until I can get a Honk-a-Meter gadget on my sidebar?

I Agree To Have A Match That You Guys Are Saying Isn't Going To Happen."Just because Michaels and Jericho have signed a legal binding contract does not mean the WWE is a party to that contract.
For example, UFC could choose to let a local promotion hold a match on their next card. There would surely be a contract in place, but not a UFC contract-- UFC would just be allowing the match to take place at their event.

It does make the "unsanctioned" myth pretty hard to buy, though. WWE is advertising and airing the match at one of their PPV events, it will most likely have entrance themes and announcements, and now it even had a contract signing.
The reasons for all this are obvious, but it's still funny.
Of course, the bigger question is, why was the ECW Scramble-battle royal on Raw instead of ECW? The answer, apparently, is no one freaking watches ECW.

Actually, the whole Stevie Richards impersonating other wrestlers went back to the old ECW. He dressed up as Baron von Stevie (a take off of Baron von Raschke), the fabulous ones, and perhaps a few others. It was a gimmick that Raven came up with to amuse himself.

Right, and that's what led to the BWO. Richards brought the mimicry with him 9 years ago when he arrived shortly after Jericho and the Dudleys in WWE (F at the time).

The highlights this week were the guy dressed up as JBL in the crowd. (priceless, it even made the announcers stumble) and the Honkometer.
I normally lay on the FF button when Orton is talking but it was a great promo this week.
It was good that Noble finally got a win but not so good that it was at the expense of Regal. Hopefully Regal stomps him out next week to even things up a bit.

I hate to say it but I think Dibiase and Rhodes did good last night. They took Orton's advice and got their belts back. I don't like them but I respect them for growing some backbones.

No, the contract signing was made so that WWE takes no responsibility for whatever happens in the match.
I thought Rey was locked in Kane's basement, getting the Saw treatment. So many lost opportunities there.
I was disappointed to see Rey come out. I at least wanted to see him with some cuts and bruises. It makes Kane little rampage for the past few weeks meaningless.
Randy Orton actually seemed to be saying a lot of stuff the crowd agreed with. Until he dissed CM Punk, anyway.
That's because the crowd always roots for Faces (good guys) and boos the Heels (bad guys). The only reason they cheered Randy was because he was talking trash about all of the champions on RAW and the majority are Heels.

The WWE writers can never seem to avoid screwing up a Kane storyline. The only thing that can save it now is if Rey Mysterio is seen eating human flesh backstage or something.

I suspect that a lot of people in the upper levels of the crowd didn't even realize it wasn't John Cena until the match started.

I took it as if they had this on ECW that would leave 40 minutes of nothing as 75% of their roster was in that one match.

Actually, consider that they were in Randy's hometown of St. Louis. Equal opportunity dissing, and yet Punk got a bigger pop than Orton himself did.

No, for that they would also have to give Kane new vocal theme music by Motorhead where the Motorhead guy growls, "Is he alive or is he dead? I'll grind his bones to make my bread!"
I really was hoping for Rey Mysterio to be at least a little zombified, or something. WWE has the strangest idea of what Hell is. Someone can send someone to Hell and the person will be back in the ring later that day. This makes me less optimistic for Edge's return being anything interesting.
Edge and Rey Mysterio should've formed the new Brood.

You could say that is part of it, but what it is really from is that ECW and RAW are about to start filming together, and they hinted last night that this might become a full time gig, just as ECW and SmackDown! have been, but now it'll be on RAW. It's Vince's plan that the RAW superstars appearing occasionally on ECW might make the ratings go up more than SmackDown! superstars appearing on it.

Well my world has calmed down a little and I finally caught up on all the wrestling I had taped and I'm actually watching SmackDown as it airs!
I had been avoiding WWE.com since I was so far behind, I didn't know Killer Kowalski had passed until he was on the screen. :(
Orton's promo slamming the champions was masterful. Great to see the native son make a cameo in his hometown. The slap he gave Cody a little bit later really drove the point home to the young champion. It was good to see the sons of legends "grow a set" as Randy suggested and reclaim their belts.
If impersonating stars can help Charlie Haas keep his job I am all for it. I find it disappointing that such a quality athlete can't make it to any great level of success.
The ECW Scramble battle royal certainly could lead to ECW exchanging talent with RAW instead. The RAW-SmackDown switch has been delayed so many times now, I'm not sure it's ever going to happen.
Santino's 'Honk-A-Meter' probably will not make it all the way to the top. How great would it be for Honky Tonk Man to make a cameo?
I agree that something should have happened to Rey. Maybe they could have Kane show a video or something when their singles feud no doubt continues after Sunday.
Contract signings are indeed a bit repetitive, but HBK and Jericho are such great talkers they really overcome any issues with the general segment. I too wonder how and when exactly Shawn got hurt. He pretty much fell out of the ring on his head when he lunged at Jericho, but it wouldn't seem that would injure a tricep.
