There will be a Pokémon Battle Dimension Labor Day Marathon starting at 9am. All of which is leading up to the 2nd Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Special.
Pokémon Movie 10 will also air Labor Day at 8pm, right after the encore episode of the Special.
There will no longer be two episodes of Pokémon on weekday mornings.
And don’t forget to vote in the poll if you want to see more individual talkbacks or if we should go back to monthly talkbacks.
Raichu is one of the strongest Pokemon on this show. Every time it shows up, it always ends up doing all sorts of crazy feats of strength.
Its lame how Both their pokemon had the same moves.

This episode felt like a rerun. We have since the exact same plot before, Pikachu loses to Raichu, they debate on weather or not to evolve Pikachu to Raichu, they don't, Pikachu comes back to defeat Raichu, Team Rocket has all of its support behind Pikachu.
The only differences are Ash didn't get a gym batch, and Team Rocket didn't disguise themselfs as cheerleaders.

It was a good episode, but not original. I just wish Team Rocket did their Pikachu cheer again.

I like how the hospital scene with Pikachu in the bed looked like the same exact room Ash and Pikachu were in in Vermillion haha.

This was a good episode and the dub was ace. Raichu must be one the strongest electric Pokemon in the show. When I was seeing Raichu use Thunder, I kept asking myself something. Why doesn't Pikachu use Thunder anymore?

Ugh, no more slang like that, Please!!!! I couldn't stand listening to Sho for the whole time. "Noobs", Wtf?
Besides that, it was a good episode.

From the looks of it, they writers ran out of ideas for character development about Pikachu and decided to completely recycle a plot, making this nothing but filler.
Next thing you know, Dawn is going to be stealing a bike, and fleeing from a large flock of Starly, just to get her Piplup to the Pokemon Center.

At least they referenced the first episode, so it's not like they were trying to pass it off as a new plot.

I think what would have added to the acknoledge of recycling is for Team Rocket to break the 4th wall, and mention that they have done that plot before.

I know how you feel. Sho's dialogue within the first two minutes of his appearance completely annoyed me to the point where I was getting a headache. Sho's slang and the fact that Piplup was out of its ball and did virtually nothing again were the only things I didn't like in this episode.
I thought that this was a great episode. It honestly felt more intense than Pikachu's fight back in Vermillion City. I can't believe that Sho thought that Pikachu was wild like that. I would think that Ash saying that they were looking all over for it would give him a hint that it wasn't wild. I couldn't believe that Sho kept on asking for a trade. You would that Ash saying no three or four times would have given him the message that he wasn't interested in training. Sho's idea of having an evolution team sounded kind of lame to me. For starters, he didn't even need to have Ash' Pikachu. Unlike Team Rocket who always fight for Pikachu due to it being so strong, which it had proven before, Sho just wanted any kind of Pikachu for his team. I doubt that they're hard to come by in the series.
When he said that they would have a battle and if he won he could get Pikachu, I seriously was annoyed with this guy. He would just not take no for an answer, despite how it was so darn obvious that Ash was just not interested. I thought that the battle was pretty intense. I kind of liked how both Pikachu and Raichu had nearly the same move sets. It provided more anger for Pikachu, as well as a rivarly sense between them. They were close to an even match, but Raichu still had an edge with being evolved. I thought Raichu firing that Hyper Beam practically right in front of Pikachu's face was harsh. Even when Pikachu was so weak, he still wanted it and then decided that it was so weak. What a creep.
Seeing Paul show up was a surprise. While he was kind of rude with saying how Ash did so badly, he did put the thought of evolving Pikachu into Ash's mind. I was actually surprised with how badly Pikachu was hurt. The scene with Nurse Joy treating it in the Pokemon Center was much more intense than in the Vermillion City episode. I liked seeing Pikachu's flashbacks, but it quickly became a nightmare. I was really surprised that they were motoring its heart rate, something I don't think we see too often in this series. Pikachu's heart rate going down like that was also intense and I almost started to cry too. At least Team Rocket felt really sad with seeing Pikachu like that too.
I felt bad for Pikachu since it didn't like losing to Raichu like that. I was seriously surprised that Ash still had the Thunderstone from that Vermillion City episode. I thought that he didn't even bother keeping it after Pikachu was fine as it was. I felt even worse for Pikachu when it was considering if it should evolve. When they found out Pikachu was gone, I'm sure Ash didn't like the idea of Pikachu evolving, especially after all that they've been through. While I knew that Pikachu wouldn't evolve, I'm glad that it was established fairly soon. Team Rocket keeping the Thunderstone like that was kind of surprising, but at least they weren't in trouble for it. I did like seeing the stare-off between Ash and Paul when Paul saw that Ash wasn't going to evolve Pikachu.
The training looked pretty cool and it showed how flexible Pikachu can be, especially with its tail. I thought that the final match was so great and intense. Way better than the rematch between Pikachu and Raichu in the Vermillion City gym battle. I got a laugh with Team Rocket cheering in the bushes though. Tiring out Raichu and then going into attack was a good choice. I especially loved Pikachu's combination of Volt Tackle and Iron Tail that won the match, as well as Pikachu's loud cry when it made contact with Raichu. It was so nice to see Pikachu prove once again that it was just as strong as it is and it doesn't need to evolve. I was also happy to see Team Rocket not getting blasted off in this episode and they kind of had a mini-victory for themselves since they were going to sell the Thunderstone.
Overall, I thought that this was a great episode with an intense battle. I still say that it was a lot more intense than the Vermillion City Gym match way back in season one. While I can understand why people thought this felt like a repeat of that episode, I think its important to keep two things in mind. For starters, this episode had plenty of differences from that episode such as Ash did want the badge then and Pikachu just wanted to prove itself and I still say that this episode was more intense. Another thing that is important is that this show has been going on for eleven years and I don't think that the writers are thinking of the people who have been watching all of that time. Kids enter into the show, leave once they lose interest and then new ones come back. They were probably thinking of the kids who weren't around during season one and may not know exactly why Pikachu hasn't evolved.
As for the poll, I kind of like monthly talkbacks, but I'm good with either one really.

What do you think would happen to Paul if he returned to Hearthome and the mayor recognized him as Chimchar's trainer?

From the looks of it indeed... however it is more so a sequel to Surge's episode than a recycled plot. I say this for two reasons:
1.) It concludes the future of Ash never using a thunderstone to evolve Pikachu.
2.) Pikachu vs Sho's Raichu is a completely different battle from the battle between Pikachu & Surge's Raichu. Surge's over-eagerness and recklessness in evolving his pikachu into a raichu, blacklashed against Raichu's moveset and therefore caused his defeat--Teaching the audience that no great strength can come through using easy pathways. Sho's Raichu, on the other hand has been perfectly trained and even knows more attacks than Ash's Pikachu. This battle was meant to look like a David vs. Goliath scenario--and did it remarkably well. Nevertheless, Ash and Pikachu still prevailed in the second battle, enforcing the idea that Ash's pikachu is no ordinary pikachu and can easily overcome his stronger evolved form without assimalating.
Lets also not forget this episode was REALLY needed for the younger audience who never watched any of the pkmn episodes pre-Johto and were probably wondering; "Why in the world has Ash not evolved pikachu yet?"
Anyway, I loved this episode a lot.

I don't see why Paul would think Ash is weak when Ash knows that when his pokemon evolve, they change personality too. If Paul evolved his pokemon, they may not obey him anymore.

Dang, having watched this ep again the rematch between Pikachu Vs. Raichu was amazing.
This battle was so much better than the Vermilion Gym battle between Pikachu and Raichu from the first season. The battles just get more and more impressive with each passing season.
I liked Paul in this ep, even with a minor role he still has his impact. Its one thing I like about him a bit more than Gary, he seems much more concerned with how he shapes up compared to Ash, whereas Gary was just oblivious to Ash's progress and just bragged.

Well, we all knew that this episode was going to be similar to the Vermillion City episode, but there were many significant differences that made this episode great.
Now we all know that Surge evolved his Raichu right away and although Raichu was very powerful, it wasn’t as good when it came to speed. Sho’s Raichu, on the other hand, was much more well rounded and much more difficult to defeat. And the way that Raichu pinned Pikachu down and used Hyper Beam from close range was just brutal.
Seeing Paul was a pleasant surprise. It just seems that whenever Paul is around, Ash seems to get his butt kicked. But he did mention that Pikachu should evolve in the first place. And I was surprised that Ash kept the Thunderstone after all these years. But I wonder where Pikachu took it…
Now the rematch was simply EPIC! Ash battled like a true pro out there. His strategy was flawless! He countered every one of Raichu’s moves. But Raichu was incredibly resilient. Every after talking several blows Raichu just would go down. Even after the Volt Tackle/Iron Tail combo. It took that awesome Iron Tail spin to finish Raichu off. It was a great battle, one that I think rivaled that of Lucario vs. Buizel.
And at least Paul saw Ash win as well. But I think Paul’s downfall will be his ignorance. He is always saying how pathetic Ash is, but when Ash wins and overcomes all odds, Paul just seems to blow it off as a fluke.

So are they just recycling old episodes now? We already had an episode where Pikachu lost to a Raichu and Pikachu was given the opportunity to evolve.

As already pointed out, this wasn't so much a recycled plot as it was a sequel to Pikachu's & Ash's character development in the Vermilion City Gym leader episode.

A sequel made 10 seasons later =/= complete rehash.
There are some Pokemon episodes that DO feel like complete copies of older episodes, but this had enough differences to make it stand out.

Just wondering, did the scene in PKMN Center with the Thunderstone and flashbacks have the Original BGM or was it PUSA made? It sounded pretty good.
I honsetly hated all the slang that Sho used. I mean, that suppost to be the 'real world' not the internet... which was mentioned near the end of the episode :(
But they did have quite a few flashbacks, which is a good thing considering that the Advance series had less in most seasons than this episode :)
