I recently was informed of the new, independent documentary called Manga Mad - Tokyo Otaku (which I blogged about here (http://astronerdboy.blogspot.com/2008/08/manga-mad-tokyo-otaku.html)). Have any of you seen this or even heard of it? I do highly recommend seeing it, though be warned that the film is not safe for work considering part of the piece covers the ero/hentai part of the otaku culture in Japan.

the funniest part was at the end when the guy said "if you want to get behind the mask of japanese culture..... READ MANGA", then he put on the mask.

i found that documentary very amusing (interesting too).

That was....really interesting. I mean I had vague notions of how popular and influential manga was in Japan, but I didn't realize it was on such a grand scale. I mean you hear a lot about what goes on over in Japan, I've heard of comiket and the akibahara but I'd never actually....seen it. Crazy stuff. Also quite interesting (yet not surprising) how much the market/profits play into the development of anime and manga. The interviews were great though, lots of interesting people, the one otaku's definition of "Moe" was quite...uh...unique, but revealed a lot about the general use/feeling of that word.

However, I can't say the ending was the best note to go out on...now I get to go to sleep hoping I don't get nightmares because of that creepy mask.

EDIT: Ah yes, and thank you for the link to the video site. I might have to share this with a few people.

You're welcome. I'm going to buy the DVD because I liked it enough that I want to support the work.
