hey, I wanted to know if there are any plans to release Yu-Gi-Oh! on DVD any time soon...
if not, they should...
and uncut too...
some of the voices and lines they gave people for the dub are pretty bad...
Jounouchi is not supposed to sound like that, no matter whether or not he's from the streets...
and Bakura's accent isn't consistent...
and WTF is "panik"?!?!?!?
player killer and panik are very different names, and player killer is a whole lot better...

Heh....
I rearely watch the kid-aimed series anymore, mostly because of dub quality. :P

I watched 4 episodes of the original Yugi-oh.... As a whole, the commercials (featuring a Japanese Ronald McDonald, a blonde-wigged Pepsi monkey, and the Simpsons selling some kinda of lemonade) were better paced and more interesting than the actual show. Some creepy design work, with Yugi's usual dom wear... his goth opponent... and Yugi's boyfriend in a dog suit being berated by 2 hot chick-cheerleaders and one fat, male-looking one.
I'm not a big fan of Clamp (Cardcaptor Sakura, CLAMP School Detectives, Yugi-Oh) anyway. Their designs just turn m off in a sense - though I COULD have gotten to like Cardcaptors if it was treated properly -____-
Yu-Gi-Oh however just....
dulls the heck out of me -__-
For the cartoon that was supposed to have ousted Pokemon in japan it certainly isnt being all that hot here, but I blame that mostly on the bad dubbing and translation.
I'm by NO MEANS a no-dubbing freak like some people, and I don't know who the character I'm thinking of is (joey or Tristan?) - but just LOOKING at him you know he shouldnt sound like that. Has a horrid New Jersey accent -_____-
Makes your ears bleed ^_____^

Yugi-Oh sells more cards than Pokemon in Japan. That's about the extent of it. I think it's too slow and doesn't have anything like TR to help it along. (What were you thinking, TV Tokyo?)

I don't think Yugi-Oh-Gawd-This-Sucks is a Clamp production.

CLAMP is the artist team behind several manga that have been adapted for anime. Perhaps TV Tokyo has produced some of them, but not to my knowledge. TV Tokyo is the production house for Pokemon and Yugi-Oh.

I've watched a few eps out of morbid curiosity (admittedly looking for the cheerleaders Rocky mentioned) but I can't get into them. I don't know if it's because I don't watch it that frequently or because it's just an incomprehensible show, period...but there isn't a likable character in the lot. And the dub voices are irksome, esp. Growly Boy and Evil Harry Potter. So far the only vaguely interesting character is Mai--I never knew Launch of DRAGON BALL had a twin sister... :yakko: Helloooooooooooooooo, evil anime nurse! ;)

What's the name of that dude with the floppy purple hair and the english accent? i didn't see how he came to be in the cartoon, just what IS his purpose?!
I quite like Yu-Gi-Oh, it's what i call 'compulsive viewing'.

It's basically an animated Survivor meets Magic the Gathering! ACK!
[Miiko's a cutie, though, and the only character whose voice I like.]
With a touch of Kimba syndrome.
[Kimba syndrome: Where a character's voice depth doesn't match the character.]
In this case, we had Yugi, who had a weak voice. I think the actor was going for "gentle and soft-spoken", but fell flat. It was to contrast with Game King(the alter ego Yugi dons when he holds his Millenium Puzzle piece and grows a few inches). The problem is, GK doesn't sound like a cooler, more confident, more dangerous Yugi; he sounds like Yugi ate testosterone before his card game. Simply put, his GK mode's voice is too deep.
And there's no excuse for this. Kevin Conroy and Will Friedle's respective Batmen merely add hard edges to their voices. Derek Prince's Ken Ichijouji/Digimon Emperor(to spotlight the dub of Digimon 02) becomes nastier and more wicked when Ken settles into his disco getup alter ego. While the ego/alter egos sound different, you can still tell it's the same character in a different mode of thought.
Why couldn't Yugi be like that? Why'd we get stuck with Sickly Treble/Basso Profundo instead?

Well the alter ego as you so put it, is really more of a totally different person. Yami Yugi (or Game King is you want) is really another Yugi that exists in the puzzle. Thus the total voice change makes sense since it really isn't Yugi in there at all.
If you want to know where Yugi goes, he goes into this little room in his soul. Yami Yugi hangs in there when he isn't battling.
I really want to find out more about the first season (which has little to do with the cards) but finding a site that is in english is harder then putting together the Exodia parts.

It's a great show, a lot more depth than Pokemon. Most of the naysayers here just don't get it. The card game is even better. I have 1st Edition cards and the Game Boy game. I think this will eventually start getting more popular.

Call me crazy, but all this negitivity makes me want to see it.
Seriously.

The show's not as successful as Pokemon's in Japan, for one. I saw original eps (aired late March/early April 01) and a card duel was stretched sometime before the 1st ep and went on til the last ep on the tape. Horrible pacing with the dog-costume/cheerleaders bit and the commercials (such as Mcdonalds no Happy Setto, Simpsons hawking soda) being the sole highlights.

Yu-Gi-Oh! started out as a manga and is more comic books and cards. The TV show just helped to publicize it (like a long commercial). Plus it sold several times more stuff in Japan than Pokemon. Yu-Gi-Oh! is gaining more popularity here now too, and also is getting very popular in England. Nation-wide card tournaments will be announced in May. It's becoming the next phenomenon.

I still say Mai's the most interesting character--sort of like Jessy in the sense that she wants to be good but doesn't know exactly how to go about it, and her bit of self-reflecting monologue was nice. Also found her scene with Tea in the shower very...interesting. But Yugi isn't really a commanding hero, and I'm not sure what to make of the repeated refs to Joey as a "dog" or "puppy" (both Kaiba and Bandit Keith have made that observation). Note also the word "monkey" seems to set him off.
Does no one realize that Pegasus has a frigging metal eyeball implanted in his skull that gives him an edge? I shudder to ask how it got there....

Me too me too! I want a millenium item as well! Heh...just not one that'll make me take my own eye out or whatever...*shudders*
Erm...CLAMP's usual focus is Shojo manga, and Yu-gi-oh came out in Shonen Jump (I could be getting it confused with something like Inuyasha or another manga I can't remember the title of currently, but I'm pretty sure about this.). I also agree, usually I hate CLAMP work, except Chobits. It's tooo...gah, busy with the screetone overdose, I guess. Chobits isn't that way tho...
HEY! damnit, when's the Yu-gi-Oh manga gonna get the hell over to America!?

'Joey" is the blonde one, right? B/C in the eps I have on tape... Joey??? is in a dog suit cheering Yugi on in between being beaten up by an apparently co-ed group of cheerleaders....
Also, almost every month I find pictures of 2 boys ("joey" and kaiba?) fighting over Yugi in Animedia's fanart section. It's the dom wear, isn't it?

Correct. I don't know if he's supposed to be a gay character or not, but it can't help matters giving him a unisex name in the dub. And the Brooklyn accent comes off as a bit of a put-on--"Dice"-lite. ;)
I got the impression Tea has unrequited feelings for Yugi, and it came to a head when she started bawling and tackled him before he could destroy Kaiba's last monster...which cost him the match. I thought she was going to kiss him, but no...maybe he's--[makes flitting motion with hand]? Eh. Still, like I said before, Kaiba had to have a backup plan--a parachute monster? I don't know--in case Yugi did blow up his blue dragon and send him flying off the castle wall--no sense in moving heaven and earth the way he did to throw it away on a crazy gamble like that. It seems Yugioh fans are now howling for the girl's blood...
Today they've begun reairing the Paradox Brothers arc...bleh. These guys are like Kung Fu meets Dr. Seuss. These annoying skinheads should've been mopped up in five minutes, for my money.

Well, if Yugi-Oh's an overly commerical show- there's bound to be fan service all over the place.

I saw the episode where Yugi lost to Kaiba because he didn't want to hurt him, then Yugi swore off dueling for life.
Unfortunately, I was away for the weekend and missed the last episode (from 4/27). Can anyone tell me if it was new, and if it was could someone give me a quick summary of what I missed?
Thanks in advance.
