Eh. That's not so bad. The Smash Bros. thing was pretty ridiculous, and the ghost course seems stupid to me, but there are plenty of people who believe in that stuff, and if they want to make a course for them, why not?

Good list! I can't believe that the Science of Superheros is an actual class. I thought comic books were for entertainment, but apparently in this class, they can be like textbooks in which one can learn the ins and outs of pseudoscience. The final exam is possibly an essay in which you have to discuss who's better between Batman and Iron Man and give examples as to why.

Stupidity class. Really?

The sad part is that most of us would take those classes as electives. Easy A, huh? ;)

I'm surprised they didn't mention the Adult Swim Comedy course. I mean, if I was a parent I'd be pretty pissed off that I was paying a school to teach my kids about Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Family Guy. I mean, I like those shows, but come on. Even if you're planning on going into the film industry I seriously doubt a course like that will give you any useful skills.

Just file it all under Critical Thinking.

Most of those are pretty stupid (I believe "Learning Klingon" is even taught as a language course at some places), though I don't see anything wrong with the paranormal class. It's a pretty big field and you can get degrees in parapsychology, so why not? I would have taken such a class in college if mine had offered one because I've always had an interest in that.

That Smash Bros and Stupidity ones are completly ridiculous. My parents would not like to see me wasting their money (or my own) on something like that.

And I thought my schools History of Rock and Roll was out of the ordinary.

Still I would totally take that class on Stupidity. I bet that class has some great group discussions on what they think stupid is. And I'll bet there are some great arguments.

They failed to mention the numerous of colleges who teach Lost related classes

I actually didn't think that some of those classes were that bad. Okay, the class on Super Smash Brothers Melee would be kind of weird, but at least it would be fun. A class about the paranormal and on the science of Superheroes does sound pretty good though. In fact, those classes sound similar to some of the classes offered during the Jan term, where we only take one class as apposed to four for the month of January, at my college. At least taking one of those classes could be fun. Not like the one Jan term I had to take last year. The ones on Stupidity, Cypersexualities and Tightwaddery? No, that would be kind of bad and stupid.

Imagine my jaw dropping at the computer screen when I read that the "Science of Superheroes" was offered at UC Irvine, my former university I attended.

Wow, I'm not sure if I'm bothered that it's being offered or the fact that I have some interest in that class had it been offered when I was there (hey, at least I admitted it! ;) ). And I'd doubt it sounds like an easy "A". Could you imagine the final?

"Question: Explain why despite the range of energy and half-life of kryptonite radiating from a ring-like structure still would not give Batman a chance in hell should he ever go one on one against Superman. Use arguments from the following theories: the theory of relativity, the speed of propagation, Planck's Constant, and Newton's Second Law".

"Science of Superheroes"

I want this on my record so that any time I get in an argument with a comic book nerd I can say "Look! I got in A in 'Science of Superheroes' I know what I'm talking about!"

But then they'd have to list the Buffy: TVS courses too, and women would flame them.

A friend of mine took a Mythology of Star Wars class. I thought the idea was idiotic, but it was an easy A for her.

The thing is, when History Channel straigtfacedly gave us a show called "Batman Tech," and got a lot of knowledgeable people to demonstrate real spy stuff and then talk about it in relation to Batman, and then claim Batman comic books inspired real life technology, well... (and that last part is a line of BS usually reserved for Star Trek! they should sue!)

Awww, I was hoping the Science of Superhero's would be a quirky look at the superhero genra... instead it sounds like a bunch of fanboys arguing over who would win in a fight: Superman or Goku (I still say Goku). Who needs a class for that? That's what the internets is for. :B

We got into some really silly conversations in my creating graphic novel class last simester, most of it involving Superman and what he could and could not do. The weirdest part was that, if it was just the class chatting, we got a lot of work done on whatever project we were working on, but if the teacher was in there we mostly just geeked. O.o

I don't see how History of Rock and Roll is any different than a Film History class.

And I thought Copper Mountain College's Perspectives on Death and Dying was bad (Imagine trying to write up a term paper debating the logic of burial in outer space (that was my topic I was about to do), when My mom, who was taking the same course died (She got an A for it (For dying in the last 2 weeks of the course), as did I, (for having to explain to two classes the entire process of preparing a dead body for burial by contacting the funeral home, the costs, the wishes of the family, etc.), and I even thought that Copper Mountain College's The Bible as Literature was worse (Imagine the hot debates of just the book of Genesis alone), but these six probably represent how stupid colleges have become..and in a nutshell, you wonder what Generation (Whatever?) will be like? This shows how far education has fallen.)

I think I'll stick to any university that offers a decent science cirricula..

Or as I say, Sheer lunacy for these six totally insane courses to show up on the radar.

I'm not surprised if a college offered Basketweaving with your Toes as an elective course.

And I thought my schools History of Rock and Roll was out of the ordinary.

Why? Music, including Rock & Roll, is art. I took a modern music history class during my freshmen year of college. I still rank it as my favorite class that I've taken in college. The professor was one of the reasons, if not THE reason.

I wouldn't mind the paranormal class since Ghost Hunters is one of my favorite shows. You learn the history, types of hauntings, and do research and field work to get some type of experience.

If there is a part in the course where we get our own proton packs and use them, I will join up in a heartbeat!

If ever a threat arrives.

and I even thought that Copper Mountain College's The Bible as Literature was worse (Imagine the hot debates of just the book of Genesis alone)I fail to see why that is a bad class. We covered the Bible in my Mythology class last year (and I go to school in the Bible Belt). When it comes down to it, whether you believe in it or not, the Bible is a book of stories.

I'd love to take that paranormal class. I wish my school would offer fun classes :p

There actually was a class on Buffy: The Vampire Slayer offered for my Jan Term course last year. I'm dead serious. I almost took that class too, until I realized I would have to watch the show and I don't think that I could handle that level of violence. Nor was I interested in the series itself. I just wanted a fun class for the month.

I listened to an interview by a guy who teached it, and he said that for the Final or something like that they had to write a term paper on one of the theories or something. And Homework was just to watch Lost!

The guy who invented Electronic Monitoring Anklets (those things they put on people who are on probation) has admitted that he got the idea from an issue of Spider-man, so it's not completely out of the question.

Some of those arent bad, especially the psy of human exp. it would be extremely interesting to study why people have the urge to have a supernatural experience.

plus i read a book about the science of the xmen and it was extremely interesting. it had to do with theories on how humans could have the possibilities of having supernatural powers.

the supermario class is really stupid tho
