Anyone who's seen Japanese comics, cartoon videos or anime art is instantly struck by the common look of the girls - big eyes that, by making the rest of the face look small, add the cuteness and sex appeal prized by many Japanese men. Since no amount of cosmetic surgery will make actual human eyes larger, some girls are trying another way to up their cute quotient: extra-wide contact lenses!

I'd take a Sharingan pair i know that heh.

As for the ones they show, not bad, still ain't true anime eyes but closer and they look ok not creepy.

No more than regular contact's I'd assume. It says in the article they just extened the color outwards a bit. Anyway, those are tame compared to some awesome awesome cosplay lenses you can get: http://www.cosplaylab.com/proshop/immortaleyes.asp :D

That would scare the hell out of me if I saw someone just walking around normally like that.

I suppose it's marginally better than what went on in post-World War II Japan, when Japanese girls underwent plastic surgery to remove the epicanthic folds on their eyelids to make them look more "Western".

I want the Code Geass eye. It would really freak people out now that I'm working for the government.

Yeah, that's kind of weird and disturbing all at once. While I do agree with what Weed of Cri said, I also just feel that making your eyes look bigger is a tad creepy. On the brighter side, at least it probably doesn't hurt anywhere near as much as eye surgery would.

Some things are just meant to stay in animation. This is one of them.

Seriously this is when people get a little overboard about wanting to be a anime character.. but I suppose the girl still looks normal even if her eyes do look..more far apart.

Heh.. maybe I should go and get myself some L bug eyes.....of course I'm kidding..maybe.

For some reason the pictures don't load for me, but that's probably just as well. Sharingan contact lenses are an awesome idea for cosplay, but using these extra-wide ones as a fashion choice is just obsession taken way too far.

I guess I'd have to see it in person, since the pics don't seem to lookall that different to me. The model in the shot is doing that "make eyes wider and pouty lips and look up at an extreme angle at the camera" thing that I think makes them look silly when they do it.

Call me when they make contacts that mimic Nia's eyes from Gurren Lagann, I have a friend who'd go berserk for a pair.

Dude. If they came out with L Eye contacts, I'd buy some and wear them to school. I swear. I could freak so many people out....maybe even the teachers.

Word. I like the Simpsons, but I would never chop off a finger and paint myself yellow.

I agree. I mean, it looks kinda weird, I admit, but it's not that different. If someone wants to make their eyes look bigger, go wild. It's not the worst thing you could do.

Yup... it's actually pretty tame. I've heard stories of Asian models getting surgery to make their eyelids and eyes look more "western." Compared to that, getting extra-wide contact lenses is really nothing disturbing.

Won't that like damage your eyes or something? :ack:

{emphasis mine}

Okay, it's official, Japanese men need some massive group therapy. Like, NOW!! :p

Seriously, the model in the picture looks really creepy. How could any well-adjusted person find those massive bug eyes attractive on a living, breathing woman? Stuff that looks cool in cartoons rarely translates well in real life.

I doubt it. Those contacts are probably no different from the normal colored/cosmetic contact lenses already on the market.

But it's not just the contacts in that picture, the model is making that face and the photo is taken from a specific angle that helps the illusion of the larger eyes and smaller lower head.

It's not a flattering look, but it's not all on those contacts.

I'm pretty sure she was shopped to add to the effect.

I have heard about that long time ago, but I do think that makes the eyes not comfortable.
