After seeing Black Hawk Down my vote is for Josh Hartnett as Bruce/Bats. He's the right age and I feel that he has that acting chops to pull it off.

Is a next gen Brat packer a good commercial choice for a fan which relied heavily on it's fan base? I know I wouldn't be happy with Josh - especially after the repellant Pearl Harbour.
I vote for an unknown. Someone we can judge on his own merit to the film.
I'm sure the networks agree...
Course they do! :)

NO. NO NO NO NO NO.
Josh Hartnett doesn't have the look, or the voice. His voice is too...is jocklike a word? The Batman voice was nailed by Michael Keaton, Kevin Conroy, and Val Kilmer. Cold, like crushed glass.

I disagree here- Keaton and Kilmer just did this raspy gruff voice- it wasn't horrid, but it wasn't the perfect Batman. The perfect Batman, (of course) belongs to Kevin Conroy.

I recall reading some reports that the guys at the WB are doing preliminary designs of what the Joker will look like in YEAR ONE. Is it just me, or does he not even appear at all?
I'm having a tough time coming up with actors to play the major characters (Batman, Gordon, Catwoman, Alfred, Harvey Dent, Carmine Falcone, etc) - all my choices are for when they'd be about 10 years older (as in the current movie franchise).

Who's Carmine Falcone?

Batman/Bruce Wayne - Christian Bale (His role in American Psycho proves he can play Batman, and especially Bruce Wayne).
James Gordan - Kurt Russel (Finally somone who can make Gordan look halfway competent - *cough* Pat Hingle *cough*)
Alfred - Ian McKellen (nuff said)
Selina Kyle - Jessica Alba (couldn't think of anyone else)
And why not throw in Ray Liotta as the generic-corrupt-cop or gangster?

Come on. Tell me you didn't have chills the first time you heard:
"I'm Batman."
Conroy is great, but his voice didn't have that rasp, which is what I hear when I read the comics. He sounded like an angry Bruce Wayne, instead of Batman.

Keaton and Conroy are the best Batmen! :D In that order too.
I agree that it should be some unknown who plays in Year One, otherwise the reason they're picked would probably be because of their fame, these days I wouldn't be suprised if they've considered Freddie Prinze Jr., which I hope they haven't!

Carmine Falcone - isn't he in YEAR ONE, too? I haven't read YEAR ONE in a LONG time, but I'm pretty sure he was the mobster-guy in that one, just as he was in THE LONG HALLOWEEN.
I'm confused now - if I'm ill-informed, someone please tell me! :-)

I had always thought Alec Baldwin could do the job as a young Jim Gordon. ( I can definitely see him growing up (out) to be Pat Hingle!) He's a good enough actor to hold back in a role that's almost as important as Batman's in YO.
Gwyneth Palthrow would ROCK as Sarah Essen. Depending on the budget; Russel Crow as Lt Flass. If they're low on bucks, cut 85% of his dialog & use Dolph Lundgren. For Comissioner Loeb- Ernest Borgnine. Forget his part in Baseketball (no one saw it, anyhow). Look at some of his older stuff. He can do the major schmuck like no one else! Throw in Greg Kinnear as Harvey Dent, John Wood (the Bishop in Ladyhawk) as Alfred (Ian McEllan's too BIG right now), and Charlton Heston as the Roman (Carmine Falcone wasn't the bad guy in YO).
Selina is the wild card. If WB goes with this "Patience Price" nonsense; I can see them writing her out of the movie. If they keep her? By all means, Jessica Alba. (those eyes...that mouth...)
Now, here's the most important part. I was watching CSI the other night. The actor playing Nick Stokes. Name is George Eads. He's got the right build, can pass for early-mid 20's, GOOD jaw-line, transitions well from light to dark moods. I asked my wife & she agreed. (did I mention my wife knows everything and is ALWAYS right?)
And wouldn't it be COOL to have Keaton and Pfieffer do cameos as Mommy & Daddy Wayne??

Yeah unknowns rule. And can anyone risk the possibility of a Josh or a Freddie taking the prize role...? Spears for Dazzler and Prince Jr for Batman... I'd rather take a gamble an unknown anyday!
As for the Joker in Year One, surely it would have been better NOT to have resorted to Joker again - just over ten years and he graces the movie screen a second time - broken record anyone?

Damn you for stealing my idea. :)
Anyway, I've always thought Alan Cummings would make a good Joker. He played Boris in GOLDENEYE

Michael Keaton shouldn't be Batman because he doesn't like the Batman character. He's gone on record to say as much, so I don't believe he can ever really grasp the character.
Johnny Depp is my first choice, though I think someone better can be found. He was recently given the title of best chin by a survey of plastic surgens who say he's the most common actor males have come in asking to have their chins molded after. He's also good a very different characters, and I think could pull off a believable difference from Bruce Wayne and Batman without being so wooden like our other Batmans before him.
I just wanted to toss out there that Sherilyn Fenn as Dr. Harleen Quinzel/Harley Quinn for Birds of Prey is one of the greatest castings I've heard recently. After hearing of Sandra Bullock as Wonder Woman (and not Lucy Lawless) and Jennifer Garner as Elektra (and not Jolene Blalock/Jessica Alba) I was starting to worry about castings.

Keaton LOVED playing Bruce Wayne. It was HIM that made his performance as a psychotic shine. To Keaton, BRUCE WAYNE is the enigma, and he loved playing him. He may not like BATMAN, but he loved playing Bruce. And he must have liked Batman ok, because there was talk of him cameoing in Tim Burton's SUPERMAN LIVES.

Wait, wait, wait - I'm starting to doubt all my Bat-knowledge, now...aren't the Roman and Carmine Falcone the same guy?
Anyway, I'd pick Robert DeNiro to play him. It's a little typecast, but I think it could work nicely. That guy sure knows his gangsters!

I have to agree with the choice of Wes Bentley. The American Beauty kid. He's the right age for a year one Batman, and his eyes have the right intensity.

An unknown for Batman is the way to go. As for everyone else, the only people that I can think of is Robert Picardo as Alfred and maybe Dylan McDermott(sp?) as Harvey Dent.

-Terminatah Oh yah, I forgot to clarify. I also heard the rumor about Joker being in the movie. He's not in the Year One book, but he is mentioned in the last page. I'd rather they stay as close to the book as possible because it was a great work. Save the Joker for the sequel.

If they are continuing with the current age of Batman, I would say that Michael T. Weiss would make an amazing Bruce Wayne/Batman...he's the guy from the Pretender with the amazing jaw line and nice eyes....curses to NBC for cancelling that show!
