Do they ever end? You know like have a happy, bad or bittersweet ending ala manga style?

Multiple comics have endings.

Some do. Preacher is a good example of a comic with a definite ending. It's pretty much only the superheroes who soldier on forever, and even then not always. Because of revivals, however, no matter how final a superhero's last issue is, there is always a chance of revival.

Most do actually.
OK "most" includes the indie stuff and everything else that isn't popular enough to get picked up for more.
Then there's the limited series that are designed to have an end. Like Y: The Last Man was designed to end at issue 60.

Mike Mignola says that Hellboy will end in about 15 years.
It's the popular corporate owned characters that go on and on and on. Creator owned stuff tends to get ended by the creators.
