Ash, Brock and Dawn continue their adventures through the land of Sinnoh, meeting some brand new Pokémon, rivals, and challenges along the way!
4
Last Month:
Ash caught a Gligor, while at the same time Paul managed to catch a Glisor of his own.
We met the leader of the Vilestone Gym, Mayline and her partner, Lucario.
However, Maylene was thinking about quitting as Gym Leader after her loss to Paul.
We also met Paul’s older brother Reggie. Ash and Reggie had a 3-on-3 battle, where Ash won.
Reggie also offered to help Staravia learn Brave Bird.
4
Last Time:
“Crossing the Battle Line!”
Encore Saturday August 2nd at 9:00am
Dawn announced that she would battle Maylene first. And even thought Dawn lost her first gym battle, she was able to help Maylene regain her confidence just in time for Ash’s gym battle.
4
This Time:
“A Triple Fighting Chance!”
Saturday August 2nd at 9:30am
And now it’s Ash’s turn. Maylene’s fighting type pokemon will be quite the challenge for Ash. Will Ash win his third gym badge, or will Maylene’s new found confidence be too much for Ash to handle.
4
Notes:
As promised, I’m going to try out individual talkbacks this month.
Remember, if you miss this episode, there will be an encore episode next Saturday at 9:00am.
And always start out your morning right with a big yellow bang… 2 “new” episodes of pokemon [season 6] weekday mornings at 7:00am.

If Mayline had so much with a beginner like Dawn, Ash should beat it her easily, she hasn't battled in a long time.
Edit: Come on a draw. Ash should beat anybody that has trouble with an inexperience gym battler like Dawn.

I really loved this battle. It had some really intense moments especially the Buizel VS Lucario part. I couldn't help but think that the rain that started kinda reminded me of Ash's "Dumb Luck" days of Kanto like when the fsprinklers went off during Ash and Brock's Gym battle. Im so happy they decided to keep the 8th movie music during the Buizel fight too. Its one of my favorite tracks in any pokemon movie.
Overall it was a good movie. I wouldn't mind if Maylene asked for a 1 Vs 1 battle with her Lucario in order for Ash to get his badge though.

ONE. OF. THE. BEST. BATTLES. IN. POKEMON. EVER! Iwane at his prime! (for those of you who don't know already, Iwane is one of the anime's most talented and skilled animation directors to date)
... Why some people still don't take Pokemon Diamond & Pearl as a serious Action/Adventure animation, is beyond my comprehension.
If Mayline had so much with a beginner like Dawn, Ash should beat it her easily, she hasn't battled in a long time.

1. Knocking out one of three pokemon and barely scratching the second is hardly what I'd claim "Maylene having trouble".
2. Ash used many of his inexperienced Pokemon. In fact, this was Buizel's and Chimchar's first Gym battle. Moreover, Piplup and Ambipom has probably had more battle experience than any of Ash's three Pokemon.
3. As noted numerous of times in the episode and the couple episodes before it, Dawn's battle with Maylene has stregthen Maylene's abilities' and courage, giving Ash a more challenging battle to face.
On a side note: Is Maylene's name really spelled "Mayline"? Hmm... I always thought the games spelled it with two "e"s.

Well, I wouldn't say serious action/adventure, but it does have some good action, and this battle was no exception.
I'll admit it, I don't like Pokemon nearly as much as I did back in the Kanto days. The stories are cheesier and the characters are less interesting. But if there's one area this show has improved spectacularly, it's the battles. You never know just what's going to happen next, and you're always on the edge of your seat.

I'm fairly certain it's "Maylene." I need to play through DP again.

It was a great battle don't get me wrong. I think Ash has improved himself.
I am glad Team Rocket stayed out of the way. Message to the writers, new rule should never ever intefere in Pokemon gym battles or Pokemon torunament battles.

This was probably the best Sinnoh Gym battle so far of the
three.
As for the battles in the show, the battles started to get really good toward the tail-end of Johto. Starting from the 8th Johto Gym throughout the Johto league and AG, most of the battles are lot more action packed and longer than the old Kanto battles.
I think the reason why there's not as much character development anymore is because the main characters have gone as far as you can take them excluding the new female character. Brock and Team Rocket have developed all they can, and Ash's development is mainly with his Pokemon. This is why May and Dawn were introduced, so we have at least one new trainer every 4 years to watch develop since everyone else is mostly done.
Today was pretty average in the music department, but they kept Aaron's theme which is always awesome.
Of interest, the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 2 special has aired in the U.K. Notably, some 4Kids talent is used, like Bella Hudson (Piplup), Rachael Lillis (Sunflora), Dan Green (Grovyle), Pete Zarustica (Chimchar), and even Maddie Blaustein (Chatot), marking her first appearance in the PUSA dub.

Maylene had no trouble taking down Dawn at all. Maylene defeated Buneary pretty quickly, Ambipom took out Meditite because it was already tired out from its last battle and the only attack Dawn was able to land on Lucario was Piplup's Peck attack, which probably didn't do as much damage due to Lucario's Steel type. Besides that, Maylene may be a new Gym Leader, but that doesn't make her an inexperienced one. She obviously has a lot of skill and Dawn had no chance to beat her, even with considering Maylene's confidence issues. Dawn is the inexperienced trainer compared to Maylene and her Pokemon team is pretty weak for Gym Battles to begin with.
Anyway, I loved this episode so much. I defintely agreed that this was the best Gym battle so far in Sinnoh. In fact, I think that its one of the best Gym battles Ash has ever had. I loved how we saw Ash use most of his newest Pokemon to battle. I think this is one of the few recent Gym battles where Ash doesn't use Pikachu. Anyway, I was surprised that he used Staravia right away. I figured that he would save that for his second Pokemon, but I guess that he just wanted to take out Machoke right away. I did love seeing Maylene mimic the movements of her Pokemon before they attacked. Despite the disadvantage Machoke had, I thought that it did do a pretty good job against Staravia.
I thought that seeing Team Rocket just looking around the gym for Pokemon was a good idea. They rarely interupt Ash's gym battles or league matches now. It was kind of funny to see their unhappy reaction to the body relaxation since if you're body isn't used to it, then you'll feel a lot of pain. Meditite was a lot stronger here than it was against Dawn. Detect is useful, but it usually messes up in the game a lot faster than that. It was kind of funny to see Staravia with purple eyes and then hitting itself out of Confusion. I was glad to see Ash use Chimchar. We haven't seen much of the cute little guy since the beginning of the season. It was doing a good job against Meditie, but that confusion effect happened again. I think that if it wasn't for being confused, Meditite could have taken one of Ash's Pokemon out of the match. At least Staravia was able to use its newly learned move Brave Bird to finally defeat Meditite. It looks cool, but the recoil damage can be too much to handle.
I was so happy when Lucario came out of its Pokeball like that. I'm such a big Lucario fan so I bet you know how happy I was to see it in action. Metal Claw was as awesome as ever and the recoil damage from Brave Bird really did put too much damage on Staravia. While Chimchar may not have as much experience as most of the other members of Ash's team, I thought that it did a good job. The hit from Flame Wheel looked really intense and painful for poor Lucario. I did love seeing how it dodged the Flamethrowers before though. I so loved how Lucario sensed Chimchar's aura while it was underground and used Aura Sphere and Force Palm afterwords. I felt bad that Chimchar did lose a bit since it would have been nice to see it win in its first gym battle, but it was just so awesome to see Lucario in action.
The best part of the match was definitely Lucario vs. Buziel. Buziel is one tough Pokemon. It kept on taking hit after hit from Lucario. I also loved seeing how Lucario used Bone Rush. It looked more like a weapon made out of aura. It was amazing how Buizel learned Water Pulse. That's one of my favorite attacks for Water Pokemon. It was so cool to see that go up against Aura Sphere during the match. I loved hearing music from the Lucario movie in the background as well. I was especially surprised when those moves blew up the entire roof to the gym. The rain coming down and causing Buizel to move faster did make me think of dumb luck on Ash's part, but it was still pretty cool. I loved seeing the final clash between Lucario and Buziel and how they both seemed to respect each other for their strength.
The match ending in a draw was also a pretty big surprise. A tie usually doesn't happen in gym battles. Regardless, that was definitely one of the best gym battles yet. I was also happy that Ash still got the badge since Maylene did believe that Ash deserved it. I did like how she asked her Pokemon first, which showed her respect for them. It would have been cool to see a one-on-one match against Lucario, but I'm still happy with the outcome since Ash still got the badge and didn't techincally defeat Lucario. Yeah, I love Lucario that much.
Overall, it was a excellente episode. I love the intense moments of the battles and especially the ending round. I hope now more than ever Ash could eventually get a Riolu for his team. I would just love that so much. I hope that next week's episode will also be enjoyable.

They probably put extra effort into this battle because they knew they couldn't screw up Lucario's Gym battle. :p
Buizel is really awesome. Its become one of my favorite Ash water Pokemon right after Squirtle.

And the fanboys went crazy...
Staravia and Buizel really proved themselves in this gym battle, I was impressed. Chimchar...not so much.

I had to laugh a bit inside when I saw Dawn and all of her Pokemon dressed up as cheerleaders. I do agree that Staravia and Buizel were seriously strong in this match. Like I said, I felt bad that Chimchar didn't do as well, but hopefully it will win a battle in another one of Ash's gym battles, or just another strong match would work too.

Note: I did check and it is spelled "Maylene. My bad on this one.
What a great episode! This was by far the best Gym Battle in Sinnoh so far. Ash did use his less experienced pokemon durring this fight, but they still were very powerful. But it seems that the lack of experience hurt him a bit when it came down to Lucario. I was sure that once Lucario got hit by Flame Wheel that Ash would have enough of a cushion to win this match without too much diffuculity.
Lucario vs. Buizel
Like I said, Lucario got hit with Flame Wheel and I thought Buizel should be powerful enough to win, but Lucario must have been at a VERY high level. Not only did Lucario take several hits, but Maylene started to take control of the match. Buizel learning Water Pulse was simply amazing. Seeing Aura Sphere and Water Pulse in the same battle was really cool too. And when those two attacks hit each other, they destroyed the roof! Wow, but little did I know what was comming next. Seeing Buizel on the ground, I thought Ash was going to lose, no lie.......... And then it starts raining. I swear, Ash gets sooooooo lucky every once in awhile. I still can't see how Ash almost lost. When Buizel used Water Pulse with the spinning Aqua Jet, I thougth that would be the knock-out punch, but Lucario kept going. In the end... they tied, that's was a first for me, I never would have thought that they would have tied.
So, in the event of a tie, the gym leader decides in the trainer is worthy of a badge. I knew that at that point, Ash had won his thrid badge, but I'll tell you that if I was the gym leader and Ash got REALLY lucky like that, I would have not given him the badge... I would have at least made him do a sudden death, 1-on-1 match to break the tie.
Ok, so I'm a little mad that Ash got lucky, but I'll live, it was still a fantastic episode, probably one of the best epsiodes in the series.

That's great news. Hopefully the special will air in the US sometime soon. In the meantime, I checked out YouTube to see if I could get a preview, and I watched the first 2 minutes just for a teaser. It looks really good. I'm sure most people have said this at one point or another, but the Mystery Dungeon Specials seem to be really good, and there is a lot of potenital (expecially with the Squritle story) but most of that potenital isn't being used, which is a shame. Mystery Dungeon can easily become a series, but so far there are only 2, 30 minute episodes.

I'm going to make one more comment about the battle.
Confusion... I don't know if I like the purple eye effect. I remember when Charizard got confused in the battle against Brandon, Charizard lost the pupil in its eye instead, and personally, I liked that way better.
And Crogunk left the stands again, but at least Brock noticed this time. :p

From my source, I heard we are going to get a DVD of that from a special Dialga and Palkia DS sold at Gamestop. Along with it we get a T-Shirt (That won't fit an adult like me, I guess) A Grovyle Poster, and a Carrying case.

I wouldn't really call it censorship. The animators have been adding little unpleasant teasers for the kiddies ever since Sinnoh began. :D

Other than the fact that special is coming bundle with that DS? No, not that I heard. Don't know when it airing since the game been out for months and we all thought that we be getting the special the weekend it came out.

For some reason, I'm not so sure that the special will even air on CN. Unlike with the first set of Mystery Dungeon games, we didn't hear anything about a special for the new games the week before and after they came out. That would have been the best time to air it since that could have promoted the games more, despite how they pretty much sell themselves. I was still surprised to hear anything about it now, considering how long the games have been out.
