okay, i'm confused.

i'd been led to believe JL takes place in a diferent universe than any of the previous shows, hence the appearance of john stewart as earth's green lantern. but after reading other forums, i now understand JL is part of the previous shows' continuity, so where is kyle raner? and why can he stand up to Darkseid's Omega Effect but not a few lasers and smokescreens from other villains in the show?

like i said, i'm confused.

Bruce Timm has stated in an interview here that John Stewart was selected as GL because otherwise, JL would be a bunch of white guys (and girls) running around saving the world. While they added him for Politcally Correct reasons, I can't fault them for that and I liked John Stewart as GL anyway.

Bruce Timm dropped Kyle Rayner and doesn't mention him on the show because he considers Abin Sur and that whole bit to be a huge continuity glitch. I say John Stewart was GL before, but shipped off to another section of space for training, and has since rotated back in to cover sector 2814, while Kyle is out in deep space somewhere.

I assume your last comment is about Superman, since GL never fought Darkseid in the animated continuity (should we add "the Animated Age" to go along with "the Golden Age" and "the Silver Age", to cover the BTAS/STAS/JL continuity?). This is a subject of much debate on the boards, which is all I'll say about that. Check the thread "Holding back (on purpose)" for a pretty civilized discussion about this.

My personal opinion is that the GL corps had to have two GL's - one to cover Earth and the other to cover the sector that includes Earth. The reason for this is Earth has more super-powered beings than any other planet and would be considered a hot spot. When Kyle got the ring it must have been decided that one GL would go and the other would stay on Earth (DC comics did this for a while where one GL protected earth and the other the sector around earth). Personally I figure Kyle is out patrolling the sector and John is Earth's protector. Just my opinion though and I think it works to keep the shows continuity between S:TAS and JL:TAS.
