Hey has anybody ever played this fighting game for the sega genesis?
I still play it, but I haven't beat it yet.

I played it on Super Nintendo. I remember it had a cool vocal theme song on the SNES, which I'm pretty sure the Genesis didn't get. I beat the first one if I remember correctly.
One thing about the Clayfighter series that I remember is that it definitely stressed comedy over finely honed fighting mechanics. The characters were not what you'd call balanced or the controls especially crisp. I remember this being even more frustrating in Clayfighter 2: Judgement Clay. In both there were a couple of characters that were unbeatable if you spammed certain moves, and the computer also played cheap and cheesy.
I remember always wanting it but we never got it.
Then I remember renting Clay Fighter 63 1/3 for the N64 when it came out and realizing how horrible it was.

The one for the n64 could never beat the greatness of the one for the genesis.
I never played Clayfighter. For some reason, that snowman character scared the crap out of me when I was a little kid. In fact, my mom took a magazine ad featuring him and gave him eyelashes and lipstick to make him less scary to me.
I had an interesting childhood.

Interesting fact: The SNES version used streaming audio samples for the voices, which was not only used for the intro lyrics but the announcer's voice before the first fight (and I think some of the character taunts, too). Just more reasons why the SPC700 is awesome, and was ahead of its time.
Anyway, the game is seriously flawed in its game engine, but you know what? I don't care. It's a guilty pleasure with memorable fighters and a fun soundtrack by Brian Luzietti. I break it out every once in a while and enjoy a few matches.
P.S.: The Blob rules.

I wish we still had the occasional claymation game developed.
I miss Skullmonkeys/Neverhood etc.
Wasn't Clayfighter supposed to come out on the Virtual Console?
Guilty pleasure for me too, the fighting engine is not really good and its choppy. The humor is really stupid as the story yet I find it oddly amusing.
And yeah they should be released on the VC, its probably up to Nintendo when they are released.

I've always wondered why Lucy the gorilla was taken out of Clay Fighter 2: Judgment Clay and replaced with Tiny from Clay Fighter 1. I can see why Hobocop was removed from Clay Fighter 63 and 1/3, but why Lucy was dropped and never resurfaced never made sense to me.
