1-Who can you play as exactly?
2-What cities are there?
3-Is it free roaming?
4-When is it coming out?Since I was at Comic-Con and actually interviewed someone on the team for the game for TZ (interview up in a few days hopefully), I can answer these.

1 - You're playing as a customized character, be it hero or villain.
2 - Metropolis is the only city currently available in what was the playable pre-alpha version. There's still a long way to go, but there will be more familiar DCU cities in the final version of the game.
3 - From what was seen, yes it is free-roaming, but there will be missions and such that you'll have to do to progress.
4 - Release date is unknown as they haven't even gotten to an alpha build yet.

There's still a ton of work to be done in the game, but if things keep up the way they hope it to, it should be a pretty cool game.

Superman, Batman, The Flash, Lex Luthor, Bizarro, etc will be in the game, but not playable. They'll be there to assist or fight you depending on what side you're playing on.

Yes. You try to build up your status among the superhero or supervillan comminty to get access to the Legion of Doom or Justice League.

Not really, you make your own hero or villain using tools provided to design her/his own costume and body type; then quest about, explore, and such. You never directly become the Joker's number one henchmen, you can help him out on quests and interact with him. You are your own hero or villain.

So this game is similar to City of Heroes?
