Recently last week I got a letter in the mail that's saying that state quarter production will cease. Is this true? Dudes, I'm only 15 or 16 quarters away from having all 50 states, so this makes me kinda PO'd. I'll never be able to get to see what the Hawaii state quarter looks like.:crying:

Actually, there are only two quarters left to complete the 50 states, and they'll both be out by the end of the year. So no worries.

*sighs of relief* Thank god...I just hope that enough has been made that they'll circulate in order for me and other currency collectors to get 'em. So far the newest I've had for 2008 is Oklahoma. Is there other new state quarters that have been released for this year that I should be aware of?

New Mexico, Arizona, Alaska and Hawaii, I believe.

Why would you get a letter in the mail about the ceasing of statehood quarter production? I sure didn't get one. Anyway, you can see what all of the quarters will look like here:

I still can't seem to get a damn Wyoming coin. That's the only coin from previous years that I don't have. As for this year, all I need is Arizona, Alaska, and Hawaii. The latter two haven't come out yet though.

Next year though, there will be six more to collect.

I also heard that after this, they'll be doing presidents.

The reason why the state quarter production will cease is that the US Dollar is failing making state quarters priceless and worthless.

There are going to end next year and all of the states will be done.

Are they going back to the original design used on the back of the quarters or are they going to try a new design or theme?

I don't know, but it sounds like you're under the impression that they're considering abolishing all quarters. Anyway I just want to make sure I'm correct. If I'm not, then it's cool.

The US Mint will actually make more quarters in 2009. After the Alaska and Hawaii quarters are done in 2008, in 2009 US territories quarters will come out. 6 quarters in total. Washington DC, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, and the United States Virgin Islands

The reason why the state quarter production will cease is that the US Dollar is failing making state quarters priceless and worthless.I'm not sure telling you to stop would cause you to cease making and/or retract your radical statements. Clearly, the State Quarter program isn't going anywhere... it's just wrapping up this year (like it is supposed to) because there are no more states!
Are they going back to the original design used on the back of the quarters or are they going to try a new design or theme? After the territories quarters are out, they'll probably revert to a redesigned edition of the quarter reverse design... no need to reinstate an antiquated engraving when a newer, more contemporary one can (and likely WILL) be made.
I also heard that after this, they'll be doing presidents.I haven't been up on my coinage news in the past year or so, but... this is really asinine, if true. They already have Presidential dollar coins.

EDIT: there are other numismatists here! now i can complain about how dumb a Presidential wives coin program is... or not

Well that, I didn't know about.Coin news doesn't come around often... and when it does, it easily passes under the radar. The passing of that Territories quarters bill was news to me when I opened this thread.

Now, I have to go get a new book, just for those 6 coins. Sigh.

By the way, I believe there are also colorized versions of these statehood quarters available through a special offer. I remember seeing infomercials about it.

My Mother collects them. I believe she gets them directly from our Bank in rolls.

If you want them, don't wait for them through "circulation", ask for them at your bank. It's really like collecting stamps. Go to the source.

:anime: Any mention of stamp collections and I immediately think "I have one,,, just like the Queen of England." Though I'm sure hers is bigger.

Those are just done by a company whose specialty it is to colorize coins, and that could be anybody (http://www.google.com/search?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=1G1GGLQ_ENUS276&=&q=colorized+state+quarters&btnG=Google+Search). If you were to ask me, I'd say that I prefer the color silver.

I still can't seem to get a damn Wyoming coin.

If you want, I could send you one in the mail, lol.;) I swear I got more than 20 Wyoming quarters, most likely because I live in Wyoming.

Oh yeah....I forgot....the newest one I got was New Mexico, not Oklahoma....or was it the other way around? I dunno...

You can actually go to the bank and ask for state quarters? Sweet....I didn't know you could do that.

You know what bugs me though, and confuses me at the same time? Why in hell is my state quarter (Wyoming) just a plain, flat bucking horse with the cowboy? Everybody else's quarters have intricate detail on them and everything! Omg....I was at least expecting them to put Devil's Tower or Old Faithful on our quarter...seeing as some other ones have pictures of stuff that they're famous for.

Collecting coins id heaps of fun, even if it does cost you. In Australia you often find coins that have pictures to commemorate certain events or state emblems.

Looks to me like they got lazy with the Wyoming design. Of the four Mint-designed finalists (http://www.quarterdesigns.com/proposed/wyoming.html), the most lackluster design was chosen.

Maybe the guy in charge hates Wyoming.:DMy state's coin was chosen by citizen vote at the request of our governor. The Governor of Wyoming probably had something to do with Wyoming's design selection as well.

(By a WIDE margin.) The Battle of Saratoga was a pivotal event in the Revolutionary War, and would have worked great alongside other states with the same theme. (Delaware, New Jersey, Massachusetts)

And none of those first 4 designs weren't good enough? People these days...this is just like when there was an egg-painting contest between Montana and Wyoming. Montana won because some stupid college kid from Illinois painted a stick figure skiiing down a poorly drawn mountain slope as the egg for Wyoming. I would post the news article for it, but I can't find it. My art teacher was really PO'd at that kid from Illinois.:p

I like the 2 quarters at the bottom row, the one with the detailed bucking horse and fence behind it, and the one with Old Faithful. If I had any power to do so, I'd go on strike for this.

It's kind of just a quarter... I highly doubt someone from another state's gonna look at your state's quarter and laugh. If he does, that's just pitiful.

But when I said the Mint had "gotten lazy", I meant that the least detailed, and therefore least interesting design was chosen to actually be the state quarter. I never said that none of the other finalists weren't up to par.

I can't imagine what you'd say about this design:

lmfao, that's just about what Wyoming really is, a big empty rectangle. I think the population is like 500,000. You can do some major earthbending and nobody would get hurt. I like small population though, I need my space.:D

I just sorted through every singe quarter I have/had in my possession, and now instead of 30-something I have 45 state quarters. All I have left are Arizona, Illinois, Alabama, Hawaii, and Alaska.
