Anime lovers. I would like to draw your attention to this disturbing petition.

http://www.petitiononline.com/cutiepie/petition.html

Currently, there is 8153 signatures and it was written by an anime hater named Dennis Fuller.

What are your thoughts on this?

I can smell the hilarious fake signatures now.

The internet is always good at keeping me amused.

EDIT: Ah, I was right.

Anime is a terrible, terrible thing. One of the most popular things for kids to do in my town is to take Ecstasy and watch Ah My Goddess. Sometimes you need it so bad, it's enough to drive a young girl mad!

There's nothing disturbing about it. It is an obvious hoax and joke. The organization doesn't exist, and even money says the individual doesn't either.

I agree with this highly. However I would list something as a better example. Those two are nothing compared to the smut the Japanese are launching. If you think those are bad, check out these titles and ad them to your letter: -One Piece. In this show, a boy has the power to stretch like rubber. Not only is he clearly homosexual, it has been implied (by the creator) that he can stretch his PENIS.
Wow, since when has Luffy been homosexual? Lol.

Oh, not this again. Yes, it's a joke. And one quite plainly made by an anime fan, at that (why else would they name fan favourites like Oh! My Goddess and Love Hina and totally ignore Pokemon, which was at the height of its popularity when the petition first surfaced?)

I got a massive kick out of the replies, though.

Why is it that people who are Christian automatically assume that they have the right to dictate the lives of the rest of the American citizens? Let's see, so far the good Christians have tried to ban abortion, oppress homosexuals, and are now trying to ban anime of all things! For all those righteous Christians out there, why don't you all to go to Blockbuster and rent the movie "Saved," and hopefully after watching it, you all can see how ludicrous you all are. Also, let me point this out: Anime was never meant for children. Therefore if you are allowing your young children to watch anime such as Love Hina, than obviously you aren't a very responsible parent, are you? Not to mention I can think of some American sitcoms that are far more sexual than anime. For example, Sex and the City. Now I know that you rightous Christian parents have heard of that! So why don't you focus just a bit more on yourselves and how you can raise your children to be homophobic bigots and keep your opinions to yourself.

I honestly cannot remember the last time I have ever been so shocked and disgusted at the same time. I thought it was bad enough when people tried to ban Harry Potter books on flimsy, un-educated, irresponsible excuses but this is actually worse. First of all out of the hundreds, if not THOUSANDS of anime series and stories out there you used only 2 examples. Both of which are actually extraordinarily well written and pure works of genius in their own way. As for the belief that "children under 18 cannot fall in love" I believe you are highly neurotic or else so deluded or prejudiced that you do not even live in the same world that coexists with reality. And I believe that all those people who have long-lasting whole-lifetime marriages because they fell in love in high school would BEG to differ with you. I use my grandparents as an example. They have been together since they were teens and they are still married to this day, over 50 years later. And anime is NOT anti-christian or ANTI-morality!

You are a dumbass soccer mom. Shut up.

And anime fans wonder why no-one takes them seriously.

Kids and their gosh darn petitions.
If you want to petition something, try going after an actual issue, not anime, because most likely nobody even cares about it anyways.

1) Ah My Goddess: A sick and disgusting show which causes children under the age of 18 to think they are capable of love. The main female character is clearly under 18, and is forced into a romantic relationship by an older man who "wishes" for her to be his girlfriend forever. He even KISSES her, and she appears NAKED. That poor girl must be so confused.

He has clearly never seen a girl before in his life, never mind touched one or talked to one.

Yet I am taken seriously in my everyday life. Hmmm...quite the paradox.

As usual MonkeyFunk is lawlzing it up with erroneous logic and broad assumptions of people he doesn't even know.

Why do people have to keep falling back on the 'anime isn't for kids' argument? It's true for some titles but most are. Are these people somehow disgusted at the idea they spend alot of time and money on something that was intended to entertain children due to cultural differences?

It's a joke petition, HC.

Wow, since when has Luffy been homosexual? Lol.

Obviously you haven't watch the show enough to realise how fabulous he is. *joking* :p

I too have had Love Hina induced rampages. Truly terrifying!

Why stop with hating the sin, when we can hate the sinner, too?

 You missed my point. I know it's a joke. I'm referring to the people who have fallen for it and are using the "Anime isn't for kids!" argument.

Yeah, while this petition is a poor joke, it is sad how many people keep on using the argument that anime isn't for kids. I can see that being the case for some titles, but the majority of anime that I've seen are made for children in Japan. Is it really that hard to believe that Japan just has different standards for children's shows than what America usually allows?

People like that have probably been around a lot of others that have that mentallity drilled in, so they need some sort of justification to have others, or maybe even themselves, believe that the shows like aren't aimed at kids 10 or 20 years younger than them.

I lost count, how many of these petitions have been made on "Petitions Website?" I feel like that is what shovelware is to video games, something I ignore.

Even as a joke, it's too lame for words. Better not to waste any time on it.

How is it that half the messages in this topic are written under the assumption that it's not a joke, while the other half have clearly pointed out that it is?

It's actually pretty funny.

Even if this weren't a joke, online petitions are. From what I know, they have no impact on anyone. The only thing that has been shown to have an occasional impact are mailed petitions. One might have more of an impact with a massive protest. ;)
