From what I've gathered, the Spectre is the embodiment of God's wrath.
If the Spectre were introduced in the series, would they use his Biblical roots or concoct a secular origin?
Someone once suggested using Keith David to voice Mongul. Would his voice do justice to the Spectre? Would the Spectre work on this program?
If anyone has the 411 on the Spectre, feel free to share.
As I know it, Hal Jordan is the present Spectre of the DCU, his sentence for his crimes as parallax (correct?)

Howdy,
To quote John Constantine regarding the Spectre (the real Spectre, not this Hal Jordan beeswax): "Sometimes it's one of the most powerful beings in the universe. Sometimes it's little more than a bloke in green tights." As far as I know, the exact connection between the Spectre and any divine power has never been fully and definitively spelled out, but considering the aforementioned Hal Jordan beeswax, this might have changed.
In any event, I read in Toon Zone's interview with Craig McCracken that Him on the Powerpuff Girls was going to be the Devil, but they weren't allowed to do that. Considering this, the odds that they would be allowed to use the divine origin of the Spectre in any way at all are pretty slim. I'm still surprised that they brought the Demon on in TNBA.
Hal Jordan as the Spectre. Feh.

The Spectre's origins were explained in great detail during the Ostrander/Madrake series (the most underrated of the 90's IMHO)and he was known to be the wrath of God tied to a human being. I thought I'd heard about him being written for a Christmas episode of Superman, but I guess it fell through or something....

( Two THIEVES are breaking into a car )
Thief 1: Ho, ho, ho! Give to the poor!
( A big flash comes up, and THE SPECTRE appears on the sidewalk)
Spectre: Mortal! You have incurred the WRATH of GOD! Prepare to DIE in a GRUESOME but POETICALLY JUST WAY!!
( SUPERMAN flies in )
Superman: Here, Spectre. Have some eggnog and a Twinkie.
( THE SPECTRE drinks )
Spectre: Mmmmmmm. Oh, forget all this vengeance stuff. It's the holidays after all. Hit me with some of that 'nog again, willya?
=8^).
I read the Ostrander Spectre in the 90's. Thought it got off to a good start, but I reread them recently while sorting through my comic collection and they come off as incredibly heavy-handed now. I also thought it declined in quality pretty quickly as the series wore on.
I've seen a TPB of Ostrander Spectre comics in my local comic store, if anybody is interested in reading them. They were gorgeous to look at, at the very least.

Spectre is a dark character. But I don't know if they should concentrate an entire episode on him. Maybe just an appearance, with these two-parters, characters like him are assessible like that. I also think they should use Swamp Thing like this as well since he was and still is a well-known character.
