The Golden Girls is one of those shows that holds up extremely well, even after 20 years of syndication/cable reruns.

You know, they were talking about Golden Girls at my job today, and also mentioned how Estelle Getty was actually the youngest of the others. Then I remembered how she was ailing, and was wondering how she might be doing. Then I come home and see this. So rest in peace Estelle Getty.

Estelle Getty, you were a wonderful woman who not only made us laugh but became a wonderful actress who will always be well remembered for her works and her charity to others.
I am not going to cry; in fact, the only thing I can think of to show respect would be to get those Golden Girls DVDs and start watching them. She'd probably want us to laugh and seize the day.
Rest in peace, Mrs. Getty. Picture it: Heaven, 2008, where a fiesty old woman is telling the Lord to make us get off our lazy butts and appreciate every beautiful moment this life has to offer. :)

Dang it. That really sucks. But in Heaven, maybe she'll be able to remember the happy times.

Golden Girls was and still is one of my favorite tv shows of all time. I read a quote the Betty White made today in response to Estelle's passing saying that "the only comfort ins Estelle's leaving is that Sophie will be with us forever." And I think that that is the best thing to remember and the greatest thing that any performer can hope for is to create something that people will love and cherish forever.
Thank you Estelle, ever since I was about 6yrs old you've brought a smile to my face. I hope and pray that you will find peace up there and that you are bringing smiles to all there faces.

This is depressing news. Getty was so adorable and charming in the Golden Girls. Its hard to believe she's gone now.
And just yesterday I was watching the Golden Girls and thinking that it would be cool if they did a reunion show. :(
I hadn't heard about her dementia until now. Poor thing. Dementia is an awful way to go (and it's heart-breaking for the family, too) . Hopefully, her family can take comfort in the fact that she'll be able to remember them in Heaven.

Estelle Getty was truly a legend. I listened to the NPR report about her passing. She started off doing stand-up comedy in her teens in New York's Catskills, but in addition to The Golden Girls, I also remember her in Sylvester Stallone's movie Stop! Or My Mother Will Shoot! She was very hilarious in that movie. Estelle Getty will be missed.
