Anytime I get a chance to find out what's going to air on the Disney Channel's "Vault Disney", when it comes to "VERY RARE" cartoons I just have to post this to let everyone know.

This Sunday, late night at 3:40am-4:00am, VAULT DISNEY will be airing two cartoons, of Walt's second silent animated series, THE ALICE COMEDIES, from the early twenties. If you never seen any of the "Alice" cartoons, then you're missing out on some great slient cartoons from Walt's early days.

This is one "excellent" cartoon series that you SHOULD set your VCR and record these shorts, that I highly recomend. For those who have never seen an "Alice Comedy", this series is part live-action & animated, with Alice being the only live Human in a cartoon world with her best feline friend "Julius".This series also features one of Disney's longest running character's "PEG LEG PETE", originally a bear in these films until 1927, then the animators changed him into a cat.

Great animation in this series, featuring such talents as: Ub Iwerks, Friz Freleng, Hugh Harmon & Rudolph Ising, who later would become legendary animators at Warner Bros.

So check out these great and very rare silent cartoons, this late-night Sunday...You wont be disapointed!!!

Hmm, too bad that's during the late night ACME HOUR! Oh well, that's why I have two VCRs. Who's going to try and stay up till four with me?:p Actually, what I usually do when I THINK something rare will be on, I watch the first cartoons, and see if they're rare, or just not played because of a gag, and if they are, I stay up (I remember December 29th, seeing "Plane Daffy"'s title card made me drink some java!) If they are not rare I usually just tape the rest and say to myself, "Screw this! Who else actually stays up until 2AM to watch something like *oh say* "Tom and Cherie."

They've aired those Alice Comedies before, I saw them one night when I happened to turn on the Disney Channel. Good info though, thanks! :D

You can't, unfortunately, unless you have connections with the guy who programs it. You can only find out what aired after the fact:(

Thanks for the tip!

Are these ALICE cartoons part of the Vault Disney
scheduled for Sunday morning? (It runs from 4:00
a.m. to 5:00 a.m. here in Central).

According to the TV LISTING page, it is an episode
titled "Disney Firsts" but the title breakdown does not show any ALICE shorts.

Would the ALICE shorts be part of another Disney show different that Vault Disney? I am anxious to catch these shorts for my collection.

Fred.

That night was the one and only time I'd ever seen "The Unbearable Bear." Why don't they show "Unbearable Bear" on a regular basis? It's one of the best Sniffles cartoons (the character would probably have a better following if they showed last 4-5 more often, rather than the first 4-5). I try to convince myself that it's because of the brief gun in the mouth scene, but Elmer does the same thing to Bugs in a few shorts, even in one of the Hunting Trilogy, I think.

I bet with my luck that they showed it this morning or something.

Also, wasn;t "Plane Daffy" shown on a regular basis at one time, I swear to seeing it when I was really little somewhat often. It's one of the best WWII cartoons, and a great Daffy short too.

I still can't t get over that they edited the suicide shooting in PLANE DAFFY, and late at night, too! Looking at the other cartoons that came on that night, there would be no problem showing the suicide scene from that cartoon. BTW, was that the only time they ever showed that cartoon?
