This is the talkback thread for FUNimation Announces New September Titles Including First Geneon Rescues (http://news.toonzone.net/article.php?ID=24795).

Bucketloads of stuff.

Hmm, what looks interesting to me... Black Lagoon The Second Barrage, Karin, Fate/Stay Night collection, Shana, Shin-chan, One Piece, Shuffle... way to bankrupt me, FUNi. :p

Wow. I hope they know what they are doing by pushing such a backlog on to store shelves. They are pushing over 50 DVDs that month, enough to really result in some retailers balking at the sudden amount shelf space needed.

Still, sign me up for that Rozen box.

One Piece and DBZ Season 6. Going to ask for Fate Stay Night boxset for X-mas.

FUNi wants to kill my wallet that's for sure. FUNi stop being so awesome. I don't have the money for it

In any case:

One Piece all the way (I'm keeping a collection)
When they Cry
Shana
If I have enough money, I'll get Baki the Grappler

I've resolved not to get the Case Closed DVD's until it gets past episode 85 where it left off on [as]

Why is everyone using "sign me up" in their posts?

Good question. Maybe its a fun way to say what they're going to buy?

Anyway, I'll be different and just say that I'm looking foreword to buying the next One Piece set. I either haven't heard of their other titles they're releasing that month or I'm not interested in them. They are releasing a lot of DVDs that month. Wow. After seeing how awesome FUNimation is and how much work they have to do, I hope that it doesn't blow up in their faces.

Wowza, this is the best September ever!

One Piece, DBZ, Yu Yu Hakusho, Case Closed, Shana, Higurashi, Fate/Stay Night, Hellsing Ultimate and much much MUCH more.

I'm definently getting One Piece. Maybe Case Closed. I've wanted to check out Shana so that's a possibility.

FUNi sure is getting down to business with these Geneon rescues. Who could have expected that many all in one month? CUUUUUUUUUURAAAAZY!

Seriously Viz, you have no excuse for having such a lame release schedule when FUNimation is releasing and re-releasing tons of shows at such a rapid rate.

Viz kinda stinks now when you put it in comparison with FUNi

ParaKiss boxset for sure. Possibly Kamichu (underrated show), Rozen Maiden (have the first DVD), and Shana boxsets later.
And on the Funimation side, xxxHolic volume 5.

Definitely getting One Piece and Yu Yu Hakusho. That's a rather good opening haul for the Geneon stuff. I have the original Fate/Stay Night release, so I don't need this new set. Black Lagoon and Paradise Kiss are of interest, but my budget may force them on the back burner for awhile. I will probably rent and try before I buy.

Are they seriously starting Elemental Gelade over? I don't think that will work out well for them. I got to see some of it at a Katsucon and it struck me as extremely average. They should've released that as a set.

Sometime last year I netflixed Shana, and it lost me on the first volume. The first episodes seemed so dark with this guy existing but not really existing, but above all I couldn't stand the "shut up, shut up!" catchphrase. After two episodes of that, I wanted to reach into the screen and slap Shana senseless. Soon afterward the DVD was back in the envelope and I was taking the series out of my queue. Apparently it had enough of a fanbase to get a second season, but the appeal was completely lost on me.

I have a question: Why is FUNi releasing Black Lagoon Season One as individual titles and not a complete set? Do they really want my money that badly? If they do, they should have released some of these series on Blu-ray. No movies (although good); I want complete seasons and maybe volumes on Blu now.

Either way, I'll probably pick up some of these before, during, or after AWA.

It comes down to profit. The current philosophy seems to be that niche series + box sets = more $$ than what you would get from singles. Obviously this also being tried with very popular series in an attempt to move tons of DVD's, but it seems that for the right series singles still work out. Black Lagoon seems pretty well received, so they probably figured they could milk it awhile before releasing a set. If you want a set, waiting will pay off in time.

I wouldn't be holding my breath for entire anime series on Blu-Ray anytime soon. The industry doesn't have the luxury of heavily investing in a format that not only still isn't as widespread as DVD, but also isn't easily affordable for your average teenage anime fan. Heck, I have a steady income and I don't want to shell out for Blu-Ray right now. It isn't good business to seriously pursue Blu-Ray until it's clearly taking over as the new common standard.

Considering I have barely enough to even keep buying anime sets on DVD, and I don't have a Blu-Ray player or High Def TV yet, I certainly have to agree with you.

And that, Bleach and Death Note are all they really care about releasing properly. Although, their DVDs could be released faster. At least the Naruto sets are being released even faster now, but Bleach and Death Note's releases are ridiculous.

Yeah, How about we just give you all the money in our whole savings accounts huh? Would that make you happy? Well WOULD IT??!!

Actually yeah, it probably would

(I'm gonna be honest here, I think FUNi's spending the money on party stuff)

I can't wait to pick up YYH Season 2. I have first battles/second wind, but I'd rather have their season 1 collection (just for future convenience). I will prob just sell some other DVD's and call it all even :-P.

I am definitely getting karin volume 4 and the paradise kiss box set.

They should've released that as a set. That surprised me too. Nothing against the show's quality, as I haven't seen it, but it would make more sense to release that as a series box, seeing as how it finished its run well before Geneon collapsed, and in fact, Geneon was planning a series box ANYWAY which ultimately never got released.

Just the DBZ stuff for me. I was interested in Kyo Kara Maoh from the few episodes I've seen, but no way am I buying double-digit singles for a non-Gundam series.

I blame the manufacturing time needed for those action figures with the special edition Death Note DVDs. But Viz has no excuse for the Bleach singles.

The Bleach singles should just be axed and release affordable boxsets. Also, VIZ has neglected releasing more POT, MAR, Zatch Bell, etc. I don't blame poor sales completely. I think the real big cause is that VIZ is using too much of it's dubbing staff to dub Naruto episodes faster because they are so damn set on catching up more with the Japanese version, and because of that shows like POT, MAR and Zatch Bell have been canned as far as dubbing goes.

I thought that Viz weren't happy with the performances of their other series that weren't Naruto, Bleach or Death Note and that was the reason why they stopped releasing DVDs for series like Prince of Tennis, MAR, Zatch Bell and Hikaru No Go. I also could see how putting so much attention on Naruto so that the dub could catch up to the Japanese version would be a problem for the the other series. Viz gives that series the most attention out of all three of the main series that they work on. That's really a shame since I would much rather get DVDs from the series that Viz has stopped working on rather than their three main series.

But in all seriousnes, Viz needs to realize that they do own other titles that people want

Well, I have heard that they haven't even dubbed any episodes of Prince of Tennis, MAR, Zatch Bell and Hikaru No Go that hasn't been released on Jetstream or DVD, so that's a big factor right their. Unless they actually dub more episodes, the only way they could release DVDs for those shows would be sub only, which they will definitely not do.

They've finished dubbing Hikaru no Go, actually. The rest of the episodes will probably stream on Jetstream, but they stopped the DVD releases at episode 52, for whatever dumb reason.

One Piece Seasnop 1, Part 2
DBZ Season 6
DBGT Season 1
Possibly Hellsing Ultimate collection

FUNi clearly will be having possession of my money during September, and I will be more than happy to start getting some of the Geneon items with FUNi.
